@@LARGO125 at least you can win Championships my two favorite teams have never won chips one hasn't even been to one and being a fan of them is I don't actually have a word for it
@@hannabis80 I guess my deal is I'm old enough to remember when Buffalo was not always this bad.I did get to grow up watching "The French Connection" play.LOL
Was there for my first game in 9 years, drove from Sudbury and took off two days off work to bring my little guy to his first game, for his 6th birthday. We paid: 650 for tickets, 200 for a hotel room,190 for gas, 170 for a JT kids jerseys, 80 for Ubers, 250 in snacks and food (for the entire trip). My son is awesome and he still loved the experience and because of him so did I….but I would be lying if I didn’t say that in the back of my mind I am thinking “how much more would it have cost to take the whole family to Disney?” Hopefully when you get to go with Leo, it is not only a great experience because you are there with him, but because but the Leafs show up to play hockey…. I know this is long and rambley, but I have one more question/comment: Do you think think pregame scouting report meeting on the leafs goaltenders is just one word, “shoot”
380 per person for flights from YYZ to Orlando (cheapest I saw) , 109 per person for Disney tickets, and 100 - 200 per night for accommodations, assuming 4 ppl (380 * 4) + (109 * 4) + (150 * 2 nights) = 2256 So for $716 more you get 2 days in Florida and a day at Disney.
Steve, you said the same thing about Freddie last year. That he didn't know where his posts are. Now look how well he's playing. Leafs defence does this to good goalies. Makes them feel lost
Also on that first goal he was outta the blue cause he was challenging the shooter 😂 like it’s not his responsibility to be back in case the puck gets moved to the front, that’s what the 3 blue jerseys in front need to be doing. The leafs defense can’t expect sustained goaltending if they’re expecting them to cover the shot and the pass/rebound every time lol
Absolutely true, I've been saying the same thing. Leafs could have a top goalie in the league and still have shit like this happen because the defense just doesn't seem to exist lol
Loved the game as a Sabres' fan...and really loved seeing Dangle lose his mind. Maybe the Leafs should call Sabres GM KA and ask about a trade for Anderson. Even at 40, he's better than any goalie you have.
I am Habs fan all my life. i am from Montreal but moved to Toronto in 1970, i was 17 at the time. all my friends are heavy leaf fans and over the years i have watched and felt for them. In my life i have seen Montreal win 16 Stanley cups. Yes I am very old, Last year my friends had to eat crow after we kicked them out of the playoffs! But for the first time in my life i wish for the Leafs at least get passed the first round. After a game like this i wonder if anything but Kerry Price can make the leaf's get past the first round. Oh Steve i really respect you a lot for the passion in your podcast, you are awesome!!!!
Man, I was at the game. I’m glad we made a day of it and visited the Hockey Hall of Fame and dinner and drinks before hand. God that game was sad. Did watch a dude throw a beer from 312 absolutely nailed a camera man behind Andersen. That was exciting. Game 10/10 wouldn’t recommend.
So what was stopping you from pointing the guy out to security and have him banned? Maybe ask yourself why you think its entertaining watching a douche bag fan committing an assault
1st goal: off Reilly's pants. Not sure what Mrazek could have done; 2nd goal: Mrazek is actually in good position for the initial shot, but it goes off Sandin's foot and out front. 3rd goal: Not great depth and he should have gotten back on his edges when he had a chance. 4th goal: Nice neutral zone turnover, Skinner scores on a nice shot above the pad short side from the hash. That goes in on Soupy too. 5th goal: Great forecheck by the Sabres, finds the OPEN Okposo. Nice D! So realistically, Mrazek let in one bad one.
Its weird how Mrazek suddenly doesn't know were goal posts are after 3 years good goal tending in Carolina, just like how Freddy is weirdly having a great season in Carolina. Maybe this says more about how Toronto coach goalies than anything else. It always seems like shit goalies in Toronto have success somewhere else. Even Hutchinson was decent in Colorado
That game was another fine display of Matthews' Selke skills. People of Toronto wake up, he's not a Selke candidate. He's exceptional at becoming invisible in the offensive zone and capitalizing on a nice setup from one of his teammates with his objectively deadly shot. Beyond that, he's an above average skater that's big, but doesn't play big. That's what he is in a nutshell. He's not a bad player, he's just not the god Leafs fans make him out to be.
As a Lightning fan, I love your reactions to the Leafs. It always seems like the Leafs season is a roller coaster of emotion, and you exemplify that emotion. But hey, we got treated to a win and an MMA fight all in one night! It was great!
I'm from BC but I was there while in Ontario and I did not realize what I was watching until I got home. I saw a good Matthews shift near the end of the first but was so hype to see THESE leafs. Didn't exactly live up to the hype and man, I worry for playoffs for them again. And I'm a capitals fan, I just want to see them do something
This was my 16th game in attendance this year, I went to the previous 3 50% capacity games, my tickets were dumb cheap, still hated my life the whole time
Since 4K tv and a 75 inch TV... I don't think I could ever waste my hard earned money paying $200 a night minimum for half ass view, cramped seats, ridiculously expensive food and beverages and no replays. The game is now much better when viewed from my couch.
u can add belak, and corson to that mix, the leafs in the early 2000s were actually tough, and played good enoughdefence to let thier goalue hang out to dry, this current roster is all forwards with like 2 good defenders and a decent goalie that used to be a backup
@4:50 that goal was all Sandin getting pushed out of the way by the goal-scorer. Sandin and the buffalo player were battling in front. Sandin got shoved a step or two away opening up space for the Buffalo player to be wide open.
I was there. I am a 13 year old kid who was disappointed after the game. Although the person sitting behind (I think 10 or under) was crying the whole game until he got on the jumbotron. That was my highlight :).
I was at the game with my son last night and I gotta say, after being at 100s of Leafs games since the early 80's this is memorable as a blah-fest. I think the most excitement I got out of the game was during the warm-up counting 19 skaters dressed in blue shirts and I tried to figure out who would come out if Clifford was indeed going in.
Went to the game last night and oh boy was it rough. Every goal that went in was full of sighing as if it was expected and failure was inevitable. Felt like the team is losing the fans again because we know what the issues are and have seen this dance. The problems with the leafs are apparent and need to be addressed and yet we watch and talk and nothing happens.
I have been a Leaf fan for 55 years and if you can't see what I see this team is not going anywhere!!!!!!! They are SAD to watch! They Have No HEART!!!!!!!!!
Just my opinion, but we know the leafs wants to dominate puck possession, and they do most of the games, but when that switch happens at times where they are forced to play defense, its like they almost forget and leave their goalies hanging. Sometimes, the best defense is played when you actually play defense and not rely on holding the puck for most of the game
when the leaf picked up mrazek i was like damn they made a bad choice, at the end of last season i was absolutely hating him, and was kinda feeling the same way about raanta but raanta is turning out alot better than mrazek has ever played for the canes
2019 Game 7 against washington. 3rd period Petr was out of the net like in the screenshot Dangle captured. Pass goes across to Wilson, but McGinn makes the save on the goal line to bail out Mrazek. Never really trusted Petr after that.
Hated him when he was with the Wings. All I heard Wings fans talk about was how AMAZING this Mrazek kid for the Griffins was and how we so desperately needed him to replace Howard and boom he does NOTHING, and the amount of Wings fans that defend him to the end was insane. Dude is mad inconsistent
Steve mailed in the LFR the same way the leafs mailed in this game..... just saying Steve is sensing another first-round exit.... At least he won't have to do every Habs game in the playoff this year!
Kevin Lee, more like closer to game 5 at best, those Florida teams will destroy them in the playoffs. And I am a big Leafs fan. Arghh!!! They need a kick ass type of coach a Pat Burns type or someone like that. But they might just be uncoachable. They just don’t have it to ever win when it counts. Yes just a regular season game but sadly this type of effort has shown up in too many game 7’s or game 5’s ( CBJ)
I was there with my wife. It just felt depressing. If there was some fight in them, it would have been ok. But to go down like that, it just felt very depressing. The atmosphere in there after the Leafs lost control of the game, like no one cared anymore, no one wanted to chant Go Leafs Go anymore, people leaving early. I felt sad after the game on my home lol
Game 54. Its also 54 years since we havent won, going on 55 if they cant do it this year. That will be the new cup drought record, and its going to be the leafs.
This reminds me of when I drove 6 hours and spent over a thousand dollars to spend a week in Nashville and go to my first (and so far only) Predators game only for them to lose 2-0 to Dallas. All that time and money when I could've stayed home and left the TV off and seen them score just as many goals
My criticism of the leafs has always been their goaltending, as a hurricanes fan mrazek was always good but he wasn’t great, not starting goalie on a contender caliber. And I can’t stand people who say Jack campbell is elite because he’s just not, the best goalies in the league don’t have streaks like this where they can’t stop a beach ball
The Leafs keep blaming the goalies. Where is the team defense? What about some D-men? This turn and burn approach hasn't worked since the 90's. Once teams tighten up defensively the Leafs start losing. There is no way the Leafs get past the second round.
This, and it’s baffling how 90% of the fans don’t see it. There is zero defensive structure. They are the only team you watch, and it seems like they don’t know who to take, or where to be. How do you go 20 plus years with no structure.
Leafs defense core stinks, yet they always blame the goalies because it's an easy excuse. It's a lot easier to blame one guy, when in reality you have a much deeper problem that most fans don't want to admit. Every year when Muzzin gets hurt, their entire time falls apart defensively, there is no structure, no battle in front, etc, etc. The Leafs out score their opponents from raw talent, but they don't ever seem to win games by playing better defense.
Toughness. We need grit. One tough guy on the top 6 forwards and one tough guy on Top 4 defense who can clear players from in front of the net. Game after game our players are hit and punished. If this continues we will lose players to injury or just plain tiredness. Solve the problem management.
I think you meant to say "It looks to me like the Wild are playing like a team that has lost confidence in their goaltending. Hopefully that gets sorted out sometime soon." 🤷♂
Mrazek looks like Carey Price in his rookie season, with new pads and fresh ice. Just over slides everything. A good goalie coach can usually fix that.
I distinctly remember Canes fans getting super upset when the Canes let Mrazek walk and they signed Freddie in his place to go with Raanta. Needless to say, I think those Canes fans probably feel a wee bit foolish seeing how Mrazek has played with Toronto.
It's understood that the Canes make goalies look better than they would elsewhere (Nedeljkovic, for example). I think they feel more comfortable knowing they can settle in and make routine saves without having to scramble around. The Leafs make goalies scramble. Mrazek isn't good enough to make up for that.
@@PuckNutty Agreed, although as a Wings fan, I can say that Neddy is the real deal. The Canes stellar D core/systems certainly helped prop him up, but he's been solid this year despite the fact that our defence has a lot of work to do; many of his goals against are caused by defensive breakdowns. Mrazek, however, is much the same as he was during his time with Detroit - pretty solid when he's on, but a non-option when he's off. As you mentioned, he needs more support in front in order to be effective.
I was never mad about getting Andersen over Mrazek. Toronto’s defense is a joke. They spend all their money on offense which is a nightmare for any goalie, especially when that offense only scores 1 goal
this team hasn't played consistently in 7 years....2 coaches and i wouldn't blame either. still waiting for them to call up woll or kallgren or....try anything at this point.
