No matter how you sugar coat it, the Leafs can't keep rolling out a goalie that lets in 5+ goals every night. Everything is going through Campbell right now. His five hole is actually a six hole these days.
It's both Campbell's lack of ability to make a save, and the defence not being able to clear the net or tie up the sticks to prevent tips. It's going to be a long painful stretch if either the D or goalies can't figure it out
As much as I adore Soup - and I do, and want him to succeed - I feel like people were so caught up in his first 30 games where he was playing like a Vezina candidate and how he seemed to be the solution to the leaf's problems in net wrapped up in a golden retriever shaped package, that they kinda forgot that nothing up until this point in his career has indicated it would be sustainable. Sure, you can say goalies are voodoo and they can develop seemingly out of the blue, but to that I'd respond that it's far more common for that voodoo to manifest in the form of a hot streak before inevitably coming back down to earth, which is *really* starting to feel like the case with Jack. At some point you have to ask what's the better measure of a goalie - a 30 game stretch where he was everything fans wanted him to be, or the 100 or so other games where he was his usual self?
according to elite prosects on average Tampa are only 1.5 years older, 2.5 cms taller and and 5 kgs heavier. But the real reason Tampa wins is their playoff beard game. Look at the leafs core and and look at tampas. Playoffs are about beards.
Buddy of mine lives in Cary, NC. There's a flock of geese about two blocks from his house. Been there for years. They give ZERO feks about traffic, people, or anything, and they are just flat out MEAN. Big geese.
@@davidpfeffer1525 oh man. Thats sweet! Jr. A in my hometown when keefe coached. There was a deal. If they score 7 or more goals you got free pizza at local pizza place. And yea. That got abused. So next season they had to change it to win by 7.
@@ryangilchrist56 If they score 2 goals, we get free curly fries, 4 free pizza, a goal in the 3rd free car wash. Ironically, (despite the 7 years Foligno was running commercials for them) the free pizza is not from Papa John's.
Duck is way to greasy for my taste. Honestly never have tried horse. Moose yes, horse no. The Leafs just need a Flower. No horse or duck. Just a Fleury.
@@crazytomato1089 True, but most people (in North America) never get to try horse. I've only had it once, when I was in Japan. It's way better than beef.
Wishing for a Leafs cup win is slowly becoming more and more distant. I can feel the life force being sucked out of me as this malarkey goes on. I'm going to end up becoming Freeza if I keep going.
The leafs can't win the cup even if they are the only team left in the league.. they will always find a way to lose, even if they have to beat themselves up..
Definitely a dang it from Mitch.. I think that other account is his mom's burner... lol He lost his stick and thought "hey. I'm pretty good at soccer too" Lol he kind of panicked I think.. but he should have swatted it with the glove out towards the point. It might have got through or leafs might have touched it first, and then it could be a hand pass and get blown dead.
As fellow diehard Leafs fan with a March birthday let me first extend to you a most happy birthday good sir. This year the the league was kind enough to schedule the Leafs to play an outdoor game on my birthday so I would like to thank the NHL for that. Second....100 duck sized horses. Without question.
Having moved from Southern Ontario (Guelph) to Vancouver a couple of years ago one of my friends out here asked me who would win. I had to say my heart is with the Leafs but my mind says the Canucks are winning. As Leaf fans we have our reasons to be skeptical.
i still believe the tavaras signing sealed there fate years ago when the shanalan was in motion, and now stuck with his huge contract that could have been better spent on defence and goaltending.
similar construction problems as the Oilers - definitely more offensive depth, but all the offensive talent in the world won't get you a cup if your defense sucks and your goaltender isn't as elite as Demko.
not even close actually to Edmonton, and literally all the canucks have right now is Demko and J.T. Miller who probably won't be there in a couple weeks. yay...
@@austinfrykas6696 I meant the Leafs. The Canucks are definitely too poorly constructed atm for sustainable success thanks to Jet Black Jim Benning being a hot mess of a GM.
Goalies with similar stats to Jack this season: Hellebuyck, Demko, Fleury, Gibson, Bobrovsky, Kuemper. Yet you don’t see FLA or the Avs panicking. Why? The team in front. While Jack needs to be better, people blaming it just on him is ridiculous. The defence can’t let the other team shoot a few ft in front of the net. Gotta help Jack.
We're top 10 in expected goals against, that's good enough with this firepower, above average even. If your defense needs to be basically perfect to have any chance at winning, then your goaltending sucks. Also, what are Campbell's numbers since December 1st? Those other goalies have been steady all year. Campbell went on a lucky hot streak, but now has been terrible for over 3 months. I mean, are you related to him or something?
You're looking at the entire season statline which is inflated due to Jack's ridiculously hot start until the new year. The Leafs are dead last in save% since the new year.
@@SeanKH19 u love using the term perfect but since when is being in position perfection. Or boxing a guy out??. You dont hve to be perfect to do the basics wich they are not. Did u not watch the goals today? You think hedman would have been 15 feet out of position?
@@SeanKH19 you like to blame goalies but give a pass to defensive errors by sayin oh well they arent perfect. U dont have to be perfect to be in dam position. Like leaf fans have become so accustom to shit defence they dont see it anymore
@@lpquagmire3621 Of course they are a great team…offensively! They did score ten goals the other night after all. …I’m going to pretend they didn’t allow seven.
I don't like how much the betting sponsorships are worming into the podcast/ this channel and how prevalent it is on tv. I get why you took the ad because kids are expensive, but there's getting to be sooooo much right now. The number of people with gambling problems is going to sky rocket if it hasn't yet with how easy it's getting.
He doesn’t care. He could have standards but he saw cash predatory companies that ruin lives and create addicts. Like they will email nonstop after one bet, make ads that make betting seem easy and winning likely, and just so fast to do. He didn’t need to take sports gambling money. He chose to and that’s on him. Having a kid isn’t some unexpected thing for him he knew yet took dirty money.
@@EU_Red_Fox i wouldn't go as far to say he doesn't care at all, he might just not see it being on the inside rather than the outside. I can't to begin nor should i be privileged to dig into his financial situation too much. I'm just saying more attention and diligency can be paid to the ads he, and by extension the sdpn, take into the fold.
I'm finding myself trying to make a positive out of my love of the Leafs. I actually celebrated their loss, not as a loss but as a collection of brief good moments.
Horvat’s Stink Force field had me spit my coffee out. Horse sized Duck would be difficult but much easier to wrangle than 100 Duck sized Horses because all of your focus is on a single adversary
I love how ppl are now figuring out the leafs have BEEN letting in deflection goals ever since that Detroit game where they scored like 3 to 4 deflection goals I knew the next few teams we go up against will see that as a weakness and do the exact same thing🤦🏻
Yeah seriously. Or at least if you HAVE to do it, record something to re-use and just slap it in there at the start. That way I can easily skip over it and go out of my way to never purchase anything from that company, but you still get your money. Just don't insult us by pretending "Oh! we just happen to be having a totally authentic conversation about this product all of a sudden!" f.ck off with that sh1t. I swear these companies must pay more if you do it that way. They probably have market research that tells them they get more "ENgAGeMenT" when people just slip it on in there... God its insulting. Reminds me of Idiocracy - "brought to you by Carl's Jr"
The reason nickels are larger than dimes is because back in the day, coins were made out of silver. As its a precious medal, the content had to be exactly proportional with every coin. for this reason, quarters are exactly 2.5x heavier than dimes. 5 cent coins used to be silver, and if you follow this logic, the silver 5 cent coin was TINY. It became obvious that a coin this tiny is just too much of a hassle to use, so they had to make another coin that was A. bigger, and B. distinguishable from dimes and quarters. as the coin was bigger than a dime, it couldn't use silver because it has a lower face value, so they made it out of nickel, hence the name.
Excuses: 2013: but…but…but it was Boston. 2017: but…but…but the Leafs had a bunch of rookies and we’re facing Washington, the President Trophy winners. 2018 & 2019: but…but…but it was Boston…again & again. 2020: but…but…but the season was shortened (even though it was shortened for everyone). 2021: but…but…but Tavares got injured. 2022: but…but…but? Getting tired of excuses yet?
My eyes told me that the Leafs played as a team for short sporadic periods throughout the game and in the intervening intervals they looked like they were auditioning for a spot on a 3 Stooges remake. Do I need new glasses? Overall Jack didn't play all that badly but his support staff didn't provide much support. Very impressive soft show on skates by Marner without a stick in front of the net. Look forward to seeing him on Skate (dance?) With the Stars. Good on Nick Robertson for scoring last night. He appeared to be easily one of the most consistant Leafs out there. Also lots of Leafs buzzing around the Van net early, high intensity puck cycling and crisp passes; very reminiscent of Central Red Army in the 70's. When they tried this at the end of the game, they were moving the puck around and passing well, but the pass recipients seemed to need to take a stick handle or two before shooting, thereby giving the Goalie time to set up square or his defenders to get in place to intercept or deflect shots on the Van net. Do you know what the odds are against the Leafs getting out of the 1st round of the playoffs?
I’m a Canucks fan so I have a bias, looking at this logically, the leafs should wipe the ground with them….I really like Jack Campbell, maybe get the guy to talk to a sports psychologist.
Lately it seems the Leafs have to work very hard to get goals and they usually do a good job in that department but the opponent doesn't seem to work so hard and anything that floats towards the net seems to find it's way in. You are correct both D and G positions are s**t. If they played Tampa they would lose 4 straight with this current lineup. I hope Dubas can get us some D before the playoffs.
…one thing I noticed watching the game. Not sure what this is saying, but, every time the Leafs scored, regardless of what the score was, they cellied like they had just scored the game winner in a game 7. Every time the Canucks scored regardless even when it was the game winner, a cool hug with the comrads and a silent acknowledgement that more work needed to be done. Just seems like a big dichotomy between the two teams attitudes in the game, even though, the Leafs need points as badly as anyone. I don’t know, I don’t understand, why the Leafs defense folds the way it does.
I love that just a week ago SDPN was talking about how the leafs should win the presidents trophy. Not with Campbell and Mrazek in their current form lmao
Steve your pisimistic comment was um a bit of a surprise but I give you credit for your honesty. Okay The top six defensemen of Toronto over the last 5 yrs hasn't changed drastically They don't have a Defenseman that has a cannon howitzer rocket from the point on the power play! They don't have two Big intimidating defensemen that make the offensive players feel threaten to stay in front of the net at any time 4 defensemen would be really nice with size mean strict and can move the puck along with players out from the net and around it! Regarding goaltending a goalie is required to make the first stop ! Control rebounds ! Steal a game or two or three! The goalie an average goalie goaltender can be a good goaltender goalie if the team Team !! Plays within the system designed to protect him and reduce scoring chances can be very effective and most of all win ! Win ugly win with confidence with unexpectedly. Players forwards defensemen must ! Must know their roles and sometimes block sacrifice second effort to prevent chances fight defend pucks in their own end with more determination
One horse-sized duck. If you make a duck that big, it’s legs can’t support their mass. They can’t fly, because birds jump to start flying. So all you have is a feathered horse-sized meatbag that is unable to move. I can just throw rocks at it until it dies.
about the leaf's D you talked about the podcast and I remember the spear and shield that you guys talked about, and how spear and spear don't work... how about shield and shield if possible? (crazy i know)
100 duck sized horses. Every time. Their tiny teeth and hoofs would be of no consequence. A duck sized duck would be scarier than a duck sized horse. A HORSE sized DUCK... well holy fuck.
I think even as a kid I dipped the fries in the ketchup off to the side. But I don't even use ketchup most the time now, the local place called Zips has sauce thats better than ketchup and McDonald's fries are so good by themselves and a place like Arby's curly fries they have there great sauces too. I do sometimes still though.
Very uncomfortable with betting ads in recent videos and podcasts, Steve. I understand the need to generate income, but given the exploitative nature of sports betting and it's relationship to addiction, it's frustrating to see from someone who clearly cares about their fans. Hope you don't mind me sharing my view.
Should point out that if the Leafs traded everyone that the fans wanted gone over the last 2 years and change, they would have gotten rid of Holl, Reilly, Marner, and Nylander. Just something to think about.
I’ll liken the Campbell discussion to my own take as a goalie concerning Hellebuyck (as a Jets fan). There are games where as much as you can analyse and say “The Defence left him out to dry, or it was an odd-man rush.” Etc. Etc. Etc., but at the end of the day, when your team is battling and competing in front of you and showing they deserve a bit of support, it doesn’t matter if it’s a high danger chance, you as a goalie Have To Find A Way To Make The Save. Perfect example for me is Robertsons Hattrick OT Winner - while the Jets and Stars had been going back and forth all game long, the Jets were controlling play pretty heavily and throughout OT could’ve ended the game on multiple occasions (not to discredit the Stars and the few key saves Hellebuyck did make to keep the game going) but when the puck is turned over and Robertson comes in on a breakaway with 24 seconds to go, your teammates have Earned that stop, they’ve given the team every opportunity to win and shown that they worked hard enough for the chance to win, you owe it to them to find a way to reward that play with a save and the continued opportunity to win. No matter who or what is happening, the players that win find ways to do so, even if it looks like it’s not possible. TLDR a goalie can only have so many excuses before they need to step up and perform at and above the level expected.
I still believe Campbell can be a number 1 goalie. Campbell has been over worked & now he is going through a slump. Can Campbell play 60-65 games? No but 50-53 is more realistic. Campbell will rebound. D in front of him deserves some of blame to
Somewhere between the animal analogies and the metric to imperial conversions I got lost. All I know is it costs $2 to buy a duck-sized horse from the ice cream truck at summer camp.
In previous years, we'd think that Leafs would destroy Montreal and Columbus because they're not Boston. I honestly feel like it's that mindset that sunk them. Give them one of the Florida teams and I honestly believe these guys will be surprisingly good.
