I'm getting one of these for my birthday, and I was a little worried it would lack a lot of stuff that were simple and could be seen though not advertised, as it happened to me before. Glad to be assured that it's a great monitor!
That's always annoying. I have tested a few 165hz monitors that don't even feel like 120hz...and the calibration sucks. But I didn't get that at all on this monitor. Let me know how the setup goes 👍
From what I’ve read online the differences are that the 27GP850B is overclockable to 185Hz, has a USB hub, has a strobing/black frame insertion mode, and is factory calibrated while the 83B is 165Hz and doesn’t have these features but is otherwise identical.
Since PS5 finally supports native 1440p, I thought it's time to upgrade my old 1080p monitor. I pulled the trigger on this model and so far I'm loving it. Thank you for the amazingly in depth and informative review!
I also just got this monitor for my ps5. How are you liking it so far ? I got an open box deal from best buy at 350$. I have noticed minor ghosting , but I read somewhere That it happens if you put the refresh rate to “faster” instead of “fast”.
Thanks for the review. Just bought it. On sale this week at Best Buy in Canada for $400 CND (~290 US$). That's here the regular price of a Gigabyte M27Q (also good I hear, but without G Synch).
Just got this today after returning a Dell VA panel, which had nice color and blacks but awful black smearing and the milliseconds seemed low, because blur - this new LG monitor has the nice colors, low milliseconds, like 1ms, absolutely none of the issues the VA had, I love this monitor.
Lets goo! Yeah that's going to be a nice performer for you and solid choice on the PC. We have a good amount of warzone players on the techcessory facebook group. Check it out if you get the chance.
Really awesome in depth review....I only wish I would have gone for the 27'' model instead of 32, but otherwise no complaints. Works great with my next gen consoles and PC.
@@BainCustom Yeah it's just the size, It's a little too large for my desk. But oh well, it's not too big of a deal, just something I would have done different if I were to purchase it again.
That's good to hear. I do get a lot of people asking how the 32-in performs compared to the 27 in. Have you noticed anything funky with the 32-in at all?
@@BainCustom I am a computer programmer and have the 32" as well and there's nothing noticeable from the 27" to the 32" just so you know. The monitors amazing though.
Just purchased this monitor for my Xbox series x! Do I need to run a computer through this monitor to really alter the frame rate or can I do it by just using the controls on the monitor itself?
Awesome freaking monitor, got this yesterday for my Birthday. This thing looks like it's gonna last a lifetime straight out of the box. First impressions, amazing smoothness, no other high hertz monitor has given such high performance and comfort. I use this for fast pace swordplay games, sometimes fps games, either way even my friends can tell I play all the games I used to play with better response time and accuracy. Classic gamer claim, don't doubt it for one minute. This thing is seamless, no ghosting, no tearing, so sharp and smooth at the same time. As you can tell I'm super happy with this.
I love the Nomis shirt! Simon grew up around where I was living when I was younger, my friends and I were obsessed with Nomis gear for snowboarding.. Great review aswell!
Yeah I used to be an avid snowboarder, it was given to me as a gift. I have to say their t-shirts are amazing. Glad you like the video and thanks for commenting.
and technically the GP850 does 180hz in OC mode. There are for sure some differences. But minimal IMO. I think at top spec, it is so close that the $50 may not be necessary, unless you just need or want the extra specs.
I’ve had this monitor for a month now but the 32 inch, it’s been pretty solid. I’m not sure about the hdr capabilities though. It looks so horrible and hurts my eyes no matter what when using it as a computer. Looks fine in games. Not sure why haven’t had time to figure it out as I’ve been busy. But from what I can say, I came from a 4k 60hz Samsung monitor more geared towards content creation but looks fantastic for 4k gaming. I was always weary that I’d really like a high refresh rate monitor compared to a high resolution one. While I wish we could do 4k at 165hz it’s not feasible yet. But this is the next best thing. I can personally notice the difference but most people can’t see the difference between 2k and 4k on a monitor up to 32 inches. It’s been fun playing all the games I enjoy at 165hz I was hitting shots I’d normally not be able too. My response time seems to be faster than 60hz would let me do. If that makes any sense. It has honestly been my favorite monitor. I always enjoy the time I get to game even more than I used too.
I'm in the camp that would rather have high refresh rate than high resolution, both if possible. At least when it comes to gaming, that high refresh rate and smooth motion makes a world of difference. I'm also in the category that can notice the difference between 2K and 4K. But I tend to overanalyze the monitors I do have, while I know some people may not. Anyways, glad you like the monitor and it's working well for you. If you're looking for any other monitors feel free to poke around the channel or let me know and I will see about reviewing it.
Have been using this monitor for around 4 months now and the color is quite incredible and you can manually oc it to 175hz no problem. I got called back to work in another city so I have to leave my alienware ultrawide monitor back home (box too big). I will stick with this one until I can find a really good 1440p ultrawide or 4k, preferrably with OLED or Mini LED. My 4090 is too overkill for this monitor haha. I remember buying an acer predator monitor with TN 1440p 27 inch panel 4 years ago and it was so expensive, like 750 USD, meanwhile I got this monitor on sale for under 300 USD...
This cant be the monitor your using due to the fact you CAN NOT OC it to 175Hz 2. The 4090 is never overkill for 1440p / 165hz when you have games like alan wake 2, Dead space remastered and other games that are demanding which makes the 4090 more appealing without having to cut down on to many setting and the way games are coming out optimized now days. 4090 is perfect
@@DETERMINOLOGY No it's my monitor lol, you can force it to overclock to 174hz - 175 hz (your milage may vary), not through the monitor menu settings, but through the nvidia setting. I have been doing this force overclock thing since like 2010 maybe, when I didn't have enough money to buy a gaming high refresh rate monitor haha (did it to overclock my 60hz to 74hz). Yeah now looking back, if the games you play are like cyberpunk or alanwake, I guess you can crank everything up and still not hitting the cap. I have a really high end QD-OLED Tv too though (4k 120hz HDR), so sometime I just plug my PC to that when I want to get maximum eye candy.
I went to the store to buy a Samsung G7 32 inch, but LG representative convinced me to get this. (The 32GP83B) I am glad I chose this IPS it has great colors. Best thing about this is the 32’’ size and the 1440p is I dont have to wear my glasses. The ratios are just for my eyes. I got very small backlight bleeding luckily. Tested the monitor on PS5 and left freesync on somehow I see 4K and 60hz. I found out the best mode for PS5 is Gamer 2 and RTS. They both use Fast mode instead of Fastest. Those modes are able to create less ghosting and jitter but makes the scene a bit darker. I had HDR on all times and the Fifa21 game looks great. On the PC I dont have a graphics card yet, I use DP on the motherboard with i5 11600k and I can still play good Valorant. I did overclock the igpu with Asus software though. By the way you are an excellent reviewer. Glad I found your channel.
Well I'm glad you enjoy the monitor and I appreciate the helpful tips you have written. It's always nice to see what other people try and prefer. I really do like Samsung monitors, they just haven't been as available as LG or other brands. But nonetheless, wise choice and welcome to the channel.
Lmfao. I was in the exactly situation. I was gonna buy the g7 but it so expensive and the curve killed me. People in microcenter reccomend this and I got it.
@@badikzkie9270 I am using it with PS5, PC and Media player at the same time with HDMI matrix. All is great. If you connect the monitor with Display port you get the option of dividing sections on the monitor while using documents, browsers etc.
I might try your settings because I got this monitor and things like color temp set to medium looked more natural to me although, I've been told warm is usually more accurate and worth getting your eyes adjusted to. I had mostly the same settings except brightness and such not being quite the same but I will say the HDR on this monitor looks....... okay. Like, the colors seem more vivid but also way off with whites giving a reddish tint.
I haven't found a gaming monitor that really blows me away on HDR. Some are halfway decent, but nothing to write home about. Solid input and wise words 😎
I just pick up mine today thanks for your recommendation, and I was wondering if the calibration settings you have on the description will work with PS5?
Hello I’m planning to get one of these for ps5 I got a few question first of all how is the monitor doing this day any dead pixels? Black light bleed?also Some comments above confused me I know the monitor is 1440 but what if I wanted to just use it on 1080 as far as I know It should be posible and up to me but I have seen some comments saying like they can use 120hz if 1440 option is not enable, thank you ahead of you can answer
I really do make a list when look for a monitor or anything to buy. This monitor is on my list to buy If the black Friday showed a good price for it. As I am not a huge big gamer as from time to time play games especially the Warframe that I have been playing like few years. So wish to see good price to get this monitor soon. I enjoyed pretty much your review and look forward to watch more.
Glad you liked the video. The good news is that I've seen this monitor on sale quite a few times recently. Typically for 399 or something like that. Anyways, catch you on the next video!
Can confirm, I just bought this monitor today and I came from a previous 24 inch, 1080p, 144hz monitor. I really do like this LG monitor but I would add that the stand has a wide base, so it takes up more space on my desk than I would prefer. I also came from a 24 inch monitor previously so this 27 inch monitor seems really large and I feel like it would take some time to get used to. However I really do enjoy this monitor so far.
Love your video sir. Very well explained.there is one thing I want to ask,I have a console ps4 pro, little old console but I want to know if should I get one of this monitor? Will the ps4 pro can use all of the good things about this monitor? Please let me know because I am eager to know,And eager to get one of this LG monitor.thank u , guy from Philippines
Thanks for the sub! Yeah this monitor is a good console monitor, but no the PS4 will not utilize most of the benefits of this monitor. Visually it will look good. But you won't get the motion and higher resolution benefits until you get a new console or pc.
You can’t use 4k and more than 60hz with this and an xbox series x btw. If you purchase an 8k 2.1 hdmi like the Audioquest Forest 48, you can sort of do it. With the xbox series x, this cord, and monitor, I can run 1440p at 120hz but also have the hdr on which makes it feel and look like 4k at 120hz. Not too shabby.
Oh, I just found this monitor came out. I think I got the 27gl83a-b a few days before this came out. Well, my works just fine, so I don't need to upgrade.
I swapped out my Amazon 27gl83a-b for Best Buy’s 27gp83b and I’m glad I did the nano ips just makes it look so much better and this unit has very minimal glow no bleed thankfully and better upgraded menu. The legs do stick out longer on my desk I lose a little bit of real estate but worth the better build quality and not as much red not a fan of all the red. Think I paid $75 more not bad and well worth it considering I’m using a 3080 ti r7 5800x
Awesome video brother! I just purchased this monitor got it for 400$ at Best Buy and I haven’t messed with the settings much. Did you manage to get any better blacks out of it with your settings? I’m coming from a TN panel and the blacks on this ips (before tweaking settings) seem much worse. I will try the settings you posted in the description but either way any input helps! Thank you and keep up the great vids. You got my sub!
The tough part is with IPS displays, the contrast ratio is much lower than TN or VA in most cases. Overall the color will be better, and the image will look more uniform, but sadly thats the downside with IPS. You can mess with black level / black stabilizer to see if that helps! Hi @TechCessory I just bought one of these and it's awesome! I eventually want to buy 2 more to get a triple set up with this. Do you think in the future it will be easy to find the same exact model?
100% LG keeps these displays on the market for a good period of time. I think this exact model is exclusive to best buy, but that shouldn't be an issue, since you already bought one.
@@BainCustom ended up buying a second one As expected even though it's the same model the color temperature is different Do you have any advice on how to calibrate the monitor without the use of a special external tool? I tried messing with the color temp settings but I feel that there's a better way to get the 2 monitors looking closer in color. Thanks!!
I just bought 1 today at Best Buy on sale for $349.99 and they had a huge stack of them. I love it. I have never played above 60hz before on my 4k TV and I am blown away buy it
Great Review! Quick question. I'm stuck between this and the Odyssey G50a, which you also reviewed. The LG is currently $300, and the Odyssey is $250. Is the LG worth the extra $50? Thanks!
Yeah. That seems to be the only major difference between the two. Although I'm not sure it's big enough of a difference. That being said, it's only $50 more.
you said it well, and believe me I did my research. i think the difference betwee nthis and the 850 has something to do with some USB hubs, but who needs that shit.
@TechCessory How in the world do you update the firmware on this thing? I know there’s a USB port in the back but even after following LG’s directions to update it, I can’t get it to work. Any help is appreciated
Hey thanks! I would assume it does based on the fact that they market console ready, and Asus is not specific to Xbox or playstation. But I haven't tested it unfortunately..
@@BainCustom can you test this please I’ve been trying to optimize this tv for my ps5 and I’m having a tough time feel like I should’ve gotten a different tv for ps5 please help
I have this monitor and was wondering how you got it to work on the series x at 1440p and 120hz I have tried everything and have not been able to get it to work
Mine was pretty plug and play. But you can try some of the tips in this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hAGALLZbiPw.html Keep VRR on though.
Is there any difference between the models? My was manufactured on the month of june. Is there any difference between the previous batch ? or any improvement ?
What are the best monitor settings (in regards to just the Adaptive free sync being set to off, basic, or extended & which response setting either being set to medium, fast, or fastest) -for Warzone gaming on a PS5.
So the off basic and extended refer to the range of VRR that the monitor will support. Since PS5 doesn't currently support VRR you want it off. Basic is standard range and extended is a higher fps range of VRR. I always run fast on this monitor for pixel response rate. If you're below 80-100fps, try medium. Hope this helps!
Wow, that is a tough one. The EX lineup from BenQ is fantastic. Right on par with LG. Seriously, whatever is the better value at the time. Also the LG is Gsync and I don't believe the Benq is.
I was about to get one of these from Best Buy, but I wanted to check out some videos and reviews first. This'll be a huge upgrade from what I have now so I'm getting it. I have a $350 Dell 1440p 144hz monitor that is just terrible with trails and ghosting. RDR2 will have 2 to 3 inch trails behind your horse at 120 to 140fps, if it gets below 80 fps, it is just so blurry and hurt my eyes and head. I have to set the graphics down enough to keep above 100fps. Luckily my 3090 ftw3 can do that easily at 1440p. I'd do 4k 120hz, but I already spent like 4k on my pc all together, so I didn't wanna spend $1000+ on a monitor, especially when 1440p at 27inches is fantastic for a monitor that I'm sitting closely to.
That all sounds rough! I have had a few monitors like that myself, I will say the 3090 has made the worst monitors af least bearable. I fortunately was able to get a 4k 144hz monitor, but I'm still a hold out for a better option. Either way, 1440p served me well and I will still hop on my old GP850 from time to time. It makes a difference in certain games, metro Exodus was the big game changer for 4k. I could see some rpg's looking better too. Thanks for the input btw, always good to hear your experience.
I understand that there are differences with g-sync and g-sync compatibility, I would just like for content to show going into the nvidea control panel to help prove that it the monitor does or does not have the nvidea g-sync chip so you can turn it on or off in the control panel. My friend has this monitor and says he can turn g-sync on and off and I have the 850 and I don’t have the g-sync on/off settings in my control panel so that I suppose tells me I don’t have it however does he?
You might have it wired differently, or some of the settings may be different. If you are over clocked on the refresh rate, it may not register the gsync. I would start by making sure you have the optimal wiring and settings to ensure gsync will function. Including updating all of your driver's and firmware's.
What? This is a solid monitor. It is all about your budget and what you want within that budget. If you have a higher budget, grab something 4K hdmi 2.1. If you don't, be happy you got a good monitor.
The GP850 has the wider color range which put of the box makes colors more over saturated. Some people prefer that though. I prefer the natural palette of the GP83
I’m trying to decide between this which the price is a bit higher then the other one I’m looking at which I watched your video on is the acer nitro xv271 I can’t decide I just want a decent Monitor that I won’t regret buying
Im playing PS5 on the 32GP83B. I’m looking for best response timing settings. I’m playing in fps (preset) but i brought the brightness to (75) and contrast to (65) and looks good. Hdr off on monitor and console. Any advice on best preset for response time as well as other settings? Most console games are 60fps that i play other than cold war. Im playing at 1080p because as of now Sony don’t support 1440p. Any help will be appreciated
Hey thanks for watching! Glad you found the video and subscribed to the channel! For the FreeSync/Gsync, since it is the PS5 (console in general) they only use vrr/FreeSync and not Gsync. These monitors only utilize FreeSync over HDMI to be more specific. For the response time, I would use medium for 60fps and fast for 120fps. Those seem to be the best settings I have found for response time.
Great videos! It helps me a lot, now I found two monitors on sale, LG 27gp83b and Asus VG27AQ, the price is same around 450 cad. I am wondering if you could probably give me some advice?
Thanks a lot for that! What are you using, PC or console? I'm assuming pc. I've tried a similar model from Asus and I thought it was great, based on that experience I would still say the LG had a slight edge over it. Although I would be extremely happy with either of them.
@@BainCustom Thanks for your reply! I also prefer LG, while what do u think about Dell S2721dgf and this LG 27gp83b? it seems they are very similar. (btw, I am using a PC)
@@BainCustom lol, that would be helpful for others to select a great monitor. I just ordered the LG 83b monitor 1 second ago, hope it could be a wise choice!
I saw a review on the 32 inch version and it had pretty bad black uniformity and backlight bleed. Is that what we are seeing at the 4:30 mark of your video or is it glare? Just wondering how uniform the backlight is on a black screen?
Hey thanks for pointing that out. I did notice that in post production, it is mostly from the lighting in the room. I have since changed my lighting methods to avoid this issue. There is some backlight bleed/glow to the panel, but not nearly as bad as it looks right there.
It's a definite upgrade. The HDR is a little better, the g-sync and 165 Hertz is a massive upgrade in my opinion. It also has other console capabilities and updated menus that are for sure better.
The GL850 has a wider color gamut that tends to oversaturate colors. You can always calibrate that though. The GP83 has a more natural color on my opinion. You do lose the USB ports as well
Great video. I'm leaning towards purchasing this LG monitor over the Dell S2721DGF. I currently have the cheaper S2721HGF. Would this monitor pair good with my older Nvidia RTX 2070 Super? And do you recommend better than the Dell?
I've been tempted to buy a few Dell monitors to test out. Honestly, almost every time I back out and get something different. So it's hard for me to say that one is better than the other, I have just had very good luck with lg.
@@BainCustom well I eventually ended up buying it from my local best buy, looks very nice, colors are vivid and great. I did not get any bad screen bleed or glow nor dead pixels. Works pretty great with my games, I did see some noticeable ghosting on fps games using the 'faster' option, not so much on the other options. A little disappointing on that but it's not major. Overall very solid frame rates and works like a charm with my video card. Is there any software manager you can install on your PC and install updates from LG? Kinda like what Dell does?
I had the dell s3220 and although it is not the 2721. I replaced that with this one and I'm super happy with it. Also tried out an aorus fi27qx and for the extra 300 bucks, the upgrade wasn't really blowing it out of the park so I came back to this and again, I'm super happy I went with this. It's 400 at best buy where I'm at or like 380 on ebay. Hope this helps
@@roderickmorales I havent seen a software that they offer. I did search their downloads. I only noticed downloadable drivers, but there wasn't a streamlined way to manage that information. Glad you ended up happy though! Buying a monitor is not easy at all!
Hey man, I just thought this and my monitor won’t go higher than 60hz, I don’t know how to calibrate it without a PC because all I have is a Surface Pro 7. I wanna get 120hz for my PS5 but maybe I’m just not understanding
As far as I'm aware the PS5 will only switch to 1080p 120hz when the game is capable of doing so. You can force the resolution to 1080p in the PS5 menus if you want to be sure, but 120hz is only allowed in the games that support that refresh rate, so maybe you just haven't gone into the right games?
It upscales, but it will only play at 60fps not 120. So you would probably want to leave it at 1440p for fps games and you can use 4k for games capped at 60fps.
@@BainCustom okay awesome this is what I wanted to know. Honestly 1440p looks amazing to me this is my first time experiencing it. I just wanted to know when I set the ps5 screen to 2160 if it would hurt the monitor cause it says it doesn’t support it.
Question for the group here! I just bought this monitor and it is currently connected with with Display port, my second monitor (1080p) is connected with an hdmi cable. When the monitors are sleep and I wake them up, the main monitor (LG) flickers a few times and I get a notification that a G-sync compatible monitor has been connected. Is this due to the computer recalibrating because of the 1080p monitor?
Hey, thanks for the question. Yes that is the case. I have heard that a better DP cable that is full bandwidth will solve the problem. But I haven't test it fully yet.
In my country the reviews says after couple weeks of use it began to have white stripes which is concerning for me . Has that happend for you? Or is there something else ? Thank you for the great review .
I haven't experienced this at all. I got rid of the monitor but tested it for 3 weeks before my review. It was my daily driver. I also have quite a few friends with this monitor and they are still loving it months later.
How is the Back light bleed? Has there been any noticable effect of backlight bleed when you are plying games and is there any noticeable effect when watching movies or video??
I have bad backlight bleed for this monitor and I have tried 2 of them and the bleed is in the same location most of the time and I see yours has it in the same spots but it’s not that bad. But this is a helpful video 👍

I have this monitor for my xbox series X and I have a couple of reoccurring problems with it. As I switch in between the home screen and games, I'm met with and momentary black screen. Also, sometimes, when going to the home screen I'm met with a odd green tinted screen or, sometimes, it just goes black but I'm still able to hear sound. The only way I can fix it is if I unplug the monitor and plug it back in. And ideas on how to fix it?
I can't really say much on the artifacting and glitching. The black screen is probably the monitor switching resolutions or specs, sometimes this can be caused by HDR turning on and off. It's a fairly common issue among many monitors. Although I won't say I have that same issue...or the other one for that matter. Check to see if there are any updates for the panel, that could help clear up some bugs.
