How to repair my LG Refrigerator's blown FUSE Part1.
This video shows you what I did (slow pace) to fix the blown fuse on the circuit board. If you follow what I did, then you take your own risk of doing it - don't blame me please.
If the fuse blows again right after this replacement, DO CALL the Service Company for help.
BTW, my replaced fuse on Feb 2011 is still working as of April 2021. My overdraw of current was just a one time event so far since the 2008 purchase.

Retiredman2006, you absolutely rock bro!!!! Thank you so much for posting the two videos on fuse replacement on LG fridges. I have the LSC26905TT side by side model, and it cost me a grand total of $3.99 to fix my problem. In my case, the fix was even easier, because the larger 250v/15A fuse in my model simply pops in (and out), so no circuit board removal much less soldering was required at all. I will also mention to anyone doing a repair on this LSC26905TT model that the circuitboard electronics are located on the top of the unit, not on the back (just follow the power cord to where it connects with the unit on the top). Very thankful, thanks again!

FIXED! Hallelujah ! I know nothing about electronics. Took a stab at it since I may end up with a broken fridge anyway. I cut the pins at the fuse instead of taking the pins out of the board. I fused the wires to them instead. I first tried to shortcut and solder directly to the fuse but it never held......should have done it your way first. Thanks a bunch, saved me 1000 bucks :)

Thank you for the great video. I woke up to my LG LFC23760ST not working. Interior lights were off and the LCD thermometer wasn't illuminated. I checked the circuit breaker on my home's electrical panel and it was fine. I googled LFC23760ST and your video popped up. After a visit to my local electronics store and $3 in parts, I was able to fix my fridge. Thanks for making this great video.

Thanks retiredman2006! After five years of use, our LG just had the same problem. Not the same model but it has the same circuit board. The fuse is bypassed for now but I will definitely be attempting this fix tonight. While I'm not positive it had anything to do with the fuse but our bottom sections was filthy with pet hair and debris. Access was simple by removing the screws holding on the bottom panel on the back. Hopefully a thorough cleaning will prevent future fuse issues.

First, I wanted to say thanks! This fixed my problem before any food could spoil. I went ahead and ordered some fuse clips I can solder onto the board from Amazon so I won't have the bulky wiring floating around. As for the 250V/15A fuse, apparently they are common microwave fuses and I picked up two for a couple bucks at Home Depot. Thanks again for the helpful video.

Thank you for your video, it helped me a lot! I purchased an LG fridge off Best Buy a couple years ago and it just totally went out, no lights or refrigerant or freezer... Best Buy said sorry for your luck, it will cost $150 for a service call plus parts and shipping, this saved me over $350! Was able to fix it in less than 30 minutes! Thanks again

Thanks your fix worked perfect. However when I opened the panel and did a visual inspection my fuse did not appear to be blown or "burnt like yours in the video, but checking it with a multi meter is sure was. So any out there, double check yours before you give up ( like I almost did ) and call the repair man. What a good feeling to save hundreds and not to mention all your groceries. .. THANKS AGAIN.

Yea exactly, my fuse looked good and clean, not black and blown, so I didn't think that it was the fuse and was starting to look into the compressor start relay but everything related to that kept saying if the fridge was not cooling and mine was DEAD, so I knew that it had to be a power source. I found another video where the fuse was clean and intact like mine and he used plastic covered handle needle nose pillars to test it which was perfect because I do not have a multimeter. I gave it a try and SURE enough after a few clicks the fridge turned on and was running, which confirmed that the fuse was indeed blown! Moral of the story, NOT all fuses have to be black, cracked, broken to be blown, mine looked perfectly fine. Glad that I didn't have to buy any new tools.

I just called LG this morning after waking up to a refrigerator that wasn't working (I have the same model as you in the video just in black). They quoted me $100 to come out plus parts and additional labor to fix it. Rough estimate was $400 plus, and they couldn't come for 3 days. I then went on amazon to look for the board and found one for $160. I decided to see how to fix it and stumbled on this video. You have no idea how thankful I am. $18 later and my fridge is working!!! Thank you!

Thanks for posting this. You saved me an ugly repair bill. I believe the 250V 15A fuse is the correct one for a 120V supply voltage (in the U.S.). 250/15 was the original fuse on mine as well. The 250V 9A fuse would be for a supply voltage of 220V. I used the ceramic radio shack fuse you showed in the video. Hopefully it will fare better than the first.

Thank you so much for the easy-to-follow tutorial. I made it even easier (though perhaps less sophisticated) by leaving the bad fuse in place and hot gluing a new fuse of the same length to the bad one, with their metal end caps touching. The hot glue should just go on the glass tubes and you need to hold the fuse ends together as the glue cools. The new fuse completes the circuit. If I need to replace the newly installed fuse I can just peel the hot glue off the original, bad fuse, or just glue on another fuse to the replacement fuse.

David, make sure the metal contact to the fuse is a solid connection to the old fuse else it may arc - spark.

I needed the old fuse in my hand to take to Radio Shack but don't like taking the circuit board to the store for the risk of damaging/dropping the circuit board. And just my preference to not solder on top of the old fuse because it makes my new fuse holder dependent on a solder joint that could go bad. Your idea of soldering to the end caps is fine if you're in a real hurry but for me I'd rather remove the dead fuse. It took an extra 1 min. to remove.

i change the whole circuit board for $203.95 including shipping cost and tax and ordered it from Repair Clinic based in Canton,Michigan.I lived in Toronto,Canada...unfortunately IT STILL DIDN'T WORK STILL..i noticed also that the old mother board's fuses were all intact,meaning it;s not burn-out.I was forced to order this mother board per advised by a technician which cost me $80 for his visit and another $25 for his "never did"labor.My LG fridge is only 4 years old($1400).

Here's a Hot Tip regarding Fuses , any Fuses , Refrigerators , Microwaves , Car Headlights etc. If the Fuse Filament is completely gone , Vaporized or completely covering the glass with Soot then you have another problem to fix other than the Fuse . But , if the Fuse filament is still partly there , then it was a Fuse that got hot and took a little time to blow and there is likely no other problem . So go ahead and change the Fuse with the confidence that it will work and may have actually been a bad Fuse and not a problem with any other part of the Appliance . - Been repairing Appliances since 1981 :)

Yes, your way is a faster less effort fix, but if you blow the fuse again you have to take the circuit board out again. Hopefully you will never have that fuse blow again but for me I like the ease of twisting open the fuse holder and changing the fuse with the circuit board in place. I do not promote just changing fuses, you should always try to figure out why either of the 2 fuses blew. I use it to buy time to keep from losing all of my food.
@retiredman2006
@retiredman2006 12 лет назад
Check the 2 fuses on the circuit board. If either of them are blown, then replace them if you can. If you can not, then bypassing the fuse is a big risk and at your own risk for further damaging the circuit board or shocking yourself. But it is something you can do to confirm the fuse is burn out when it does not look burnt out. My advice is to use the repairman who knows what they are doing.

I have found the easy and best way is to buy the same fuse and just lay it on top of the old fuse and solder the ends of the new fuse to the ends of the old fuse. No chance of melting the motherboard.
@retiredman2006

A slow blow fuse is what was needed. The compressor kicks in with a very heavy load sometimes getting too close to exceeding the limit of the fuse, If it keeps blowing the fuse, then you know it time to look for the over load cause.

Nice video -- I just replaced one of the 2 fuses on an LSC27910TT (side by side circa 2003) -- the 15 amp one -- and it was a removable (conventional) fuse -- the other one was smaller and soldered-on but it had not blown. Does anyone know why this fuse may have blown? There were a lot of dust bunnies around the intake for the coils and one thought is that they had overheated a bit and caused to compressor to run too long or hard

I'm going to be doing this tomorrow on a LG model LDC22720st purchased in 2008. Here's hoping I do it all correctly. I would prefer getting clips to mount the fuse but I don't think that is going to happen with the single hole configuration on the PCB. The holes are 36mm apart.

Good idea, I used just a wire with 2 alligator clips to get the refrigerator to work again temporarily until I had the parts to complete the repair.
@retiredman2006
@retiredman2006 12 лет назад
Yes, I was safe but that's my opinion. The replaced fuse is a slow blow type mostly to handle the compressor kicking in. Replacing the circuit board with the same revision is a waste of money. On the 2nd time it blows, I would then go back to LG Tech support.

@bikeman1488
@bikeman1488 10 лет назад
I just read on the web that 2 of the common reasons for fuses to blow are compressor problems (including bad ventilation perhaps) and the defrost heater in the freezer. If a fuse blows repeatedly, the compresor can be checked by removing its relay and seeing if the fuse blowing stops. The defroster can be checked for simple continuity after complete removal -- its usually behind a plate on the back inside wall of the freezer. If its short, replace the heater. Here's a good video www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Defrost-Heater-Assembly/67004188/1070414?modelNumber=MSD2650HES as always, unplug the fridge before doing any examination or work I'll keep an eye on mine with the new fuse but I am betting it was a cooling issue on the compressor

Well that fuse opened due to over current draw! Some system is drawing a high amount of current. This fuse will open again soon. 15amp is high current fuse. My Kenmore (LG) just died and had sears guy come look at it and it was this fuse .. They wanted me to buy a new board and to install it for $539!! The Board they sell at Sears for $149 brand new... They wanted to charge me 250 plus for Labor to install! Took me 20 seconds to unplug and remove board.. Went to Home Depot and bought fuse for $2.09 total.. Re soldered the new fuse in and up and running .. Wonder how many people they rip off with this.. STUPID that LG does not make this removable.

after this repair the refrigerator works, however it now seems to constantly run, never shut off. what could be the cause of this?

Most likely not. But I suspect maybe the cables need to be reseated (do this with power Disconnected).
@retiredman2006

+Ben Bowman Try to think why the fuse blew to begin with. Are you low on freon coolant? Is the compressor working too hard? Is the temp sensor working or not? This controls the off and on of the compressor. So many things to deduce and troubleshoot. I'm not a certified service guy so I'm not really much help.

Only issue with this video is the fuse selection. He is choosing the wrong size. The board reads 117V - 125V: 250V 15Amp optional 220V - 240V: 250V 9Amp
@retiredman2006
@retiredman2006 7 лет назад
I disagree. There is no issue. The board does not read what you stated; the silkscreening on the circuit board reads 250V/9A 125V/15A. Look again, it's in the video. I also stated that the original fuse that I removed was a 250V 15A. The logic behind these 2 voltages is to support the Non-USA (250V) and the USA home (125V). Could not find a 9Amp fuse so I use a 8Amp one and have not had any problems since repairing this over 2 yrs ago.
@retiredman2006
@retiredman2006 7 лет назад
I think the voltage markings on the circuit board that you have stated is from a different LG refrig fuse repair video maybe (SamuraiRepairman)? My circuit board does match what you have assumed. Since my AC outlet that my LG refrig plugs into is 110v AC, the 250V 8A fuse that I chose to use should still work fine. Why the manufacturer used a 250V 15A fuse originally is a "I don't know" answer. Ideally I should have use a 125V 15A fuse but I didn't and the manufacturer didn't either. Thanks for your comment.
@donchambs8206
@donchambs8206 7 лет назад
No the video is for the same model refrigerator. If you look at your reply what I stated is the same. If your refrigerator runs on standard USA power 125VAC the fuse is rated 250V 15 AMP. 250 volts is the rating of the fuse not voltage applied. So if the frig runs on 250 volts it is a 9 amp fuse rated 250V and if it runs on 125 volts it is rated 250 V at 15 amps. To add what I have stated is what is printed on the circuit board for my refrigerator. Same model. Also I am an electronics technician and licensed electrician with over 40 years experience. A 15 amp fuse running on 125V would provide 1875 watts. A 9 amp fuse running on 250V would provide 2250 watts. An 8 amp fuse running on 125V would provide only 1000 watts.
