I need to know if the LG refrigerator can operate with the Craft Ice Maker NOT INSTALLED. I want to remove it, thaw it out, and replace it in a day or two to see if I can get it to function. Once again, if I remove the craft ice maker, can I still run my refrigerator safely with the craft ice maker removed and NOT reinstalled.
We have LG LRMDC2306S. During first month we’ve had 4 service visits for craft ice maker not working. Each service call reveals the water feed line to the ice maker is frozen solid although the freezer temp is set at +4F. We added two thermometers into the freezer that log temp and they both show 4F so temp sensor is good. Does the craft ice maker line have a heater/defrost? Latest tech wants to switch out water feed line but by this point we have zero confidence LG know how to build a fridge.
Hi. I have a 2019 fridge and I'm on my third craft ice maker. Since I'm out of warranty I did the most recent repair myself. It was super simple. Took 10 minutes. From this experience I can tell you that there is no hose or pipe for the water. All that is required for installation is one modular (clip in) electrical connection and two screws. It seems the water is supplied by the refrigerator through a chute. My guess is that the water supply is not the issue and that you don't need a new water line. It is the craft ice maker itself that is failing. I disassembled my last one and found a wire that runs underneath the silicone molds where the ice forms. I expect that is either a sensor or heater that is meant to detect when the ice balls in the molds are frozen and need to be dumped out. If that (or a thermostat or sensor) inside the ice maker is not providing a proper signal, the ice is not dumped out and new water is fed in which freezes the entire unit until it burns itself out.
Purchased a refrigerator 3 years ago and like a lot of people who were part of the class action lawsuit our refrigerator stopped working. 3 years? That is absolutely unacceptable. I cannot and will not ever recommend LG products. Oh and if they even cover the food loss which they probably wont they will offer you a fraction of what you lost and call it a customer "courtesy". What a joke
Have had the Ice craft changed less than a year into having my new refrigerator. Ice craft started again making the loud banging noise again. Unreal a company like LG not having a recall and resolving this. LG never again in my house

Billie: I have an LG fridge with the craft ice (purchased in fall 2019) and I'm on my 3rd craft ice maker. They all seem to fail about 6 months in. Since I'm out of warranty at this point, I did the latest repair myself. I got the part on eBay for $130 and it was dead simple to do. Just one modular connection and two screws. Took 10 minutes. The worst part was emptying the freezer of food. As of November 2021 (the last time I called) LG tells me that they have no updates to this part or solutions. Some on Reddit have suggested that the issue might be a matter of hard water building up on part of the mechanism over time, which prevents it from pivoting to dump ice. But I'm not sure.
