I moved into a place in July that had this machine and it has never dried our clothes. I went home last night and followed this tutorial and guess what! All the clothes are dry!!! If I could attach pictures I would it was insane at the amount of gunk matted wet lint I found in this and at the bottom in the back! Thank you so much for the free fix! I’m pretty savvy when it comes to doing stuff like this and this was pretty easy. The hardest part was cleaning out the plastic piece in the hard to reach areas without long brushes or things to reach in that upper corner, however with an old metal coat hanger and a rag I figured it out! I can’t believe it worked so well!! Thanks for the fix
Thank you! I live in the US where this type of washer/dryer combo is extremely rare and repair instructions even rarer. I don't own an LG but just the basic concept was enough to lead me down the right path of repair.
Easy step by step, idiotproof instructions. I'm totally not into subject of electronics and here I am- fixing entire thing by myself. Extremely useful video. You Sir have just saved me a lot of money. I'm extremely grateful!! Thank You.
Just finished doing this entire process using your tutorial. Legitimately, right now. Found heaps of cloth particles in that compartment. Put it back together and am running a test wash now. Can’t imagine anything else causing problems from now on. Just want to say thank you for taking the time to make this. Very helpful. The only thing I would add, in my case, I used a set of hook picks to get the hose off once the clamp was off as it seemed to be fused to it, that took about 2 extra minutes. Thanks again, legend!
I just fixed my washing machine and saved £££ thanks to this video! Mine is a 2014 LG washer dryer. I saw another video where the guy said to just flush the rear vent channel without removing as per this video but I can say after removing the rear vent channel on mine it was absolutely clogged and would have caused a bigger issue had I not followed the instructions on this video. Thank you so much for the instructional video.... Top man !!
What a great fix. Dry cycle wasn’t working at all. Took it apart, mrs cleaned the pipe, back together again. Saved £100s on buying new machine or service engineer call👍👍👍👍👍Thanks.
I felt it was my duty to leave a comment here because this worked perfectly to fix the drying issue in my washer/dryer. I have a slightly different model (WM3455HW), but this was close enough and easy to follow. I actually didn't even need to disconnect any wires (other than the sensor), I was able to just sort of fold the entire top apparatus to the side and pull the plastic vent out. Removed about a baseball or more of lint and now works as supposed to. I was a little reluctant to try this fix, it seemed pretty involved but its really not difficult at all just takes a little bit of time. Two hours is about right, start to finish. I'd also add, make sure you remember to reconnect the sensor and hose before you close back up. Once you get the vent put back in, its easy to over look. Thanks for the guide!
Probably first time I’m commenting on a RU-vid video! I have the exact unit that is in this video. Over the past year the dryer has gotten gradually worse. In recent times, even if I ran the clothes through a dry cycle three times, the clothes came out wet. I tried this video and it was spot on. The plastic container was completely clogged. Amazed it was working at all! I pulled out a a big ball worth of soggy fluff. I put it back together and it worked like new. Fantastic. Took me 50 minutes to clean and reassemble using an electric screwdriver with extension works well. The “difficult screw” can be reached easily by moving the tub by hand and accessing via plastic ring. Hardest part was putting the sensor back in, but can do by using a small flat head screwdriver carefully to get it back. Excellent video. Well done. Nice and simple. Thanks for adding this. It helped me out a lot.
Best sort of tutorial I could find, did this for my 3-4 year old WD14130FD6 that has just started to not dry efficiently and leave everything very damp and lots of water still visible on the door, mine was slightly diffrent in build and I didnt need to detach any wires or anything, cleaned out a huge amount of lint and wiped the sensors down, popped a load on and is working perfectly 👌
Thank you for posting this video! I've watched repairman disassemble the items in this video but watching on video is absolutely the best for DIY'ers like myself.
Tried this with a much newer model. Other than a few more wires and that final screw on the funnel being way harder to access now, very much the same. Removed a ton of gunk and dryer is as good as new. Thanks so much for this video. Life saver
jim babbington haha yes I must admit, I added that as a bit of an in-joke/reminder to self, having previously mixed up then dropped a couple of the screws.
I try it with my lg wash/dry from 2 years and it works amazingly Today i repeat it again because of the same problem Thank you very much for this very useful video 👍👍👍
Yes, that plastic vent pipe may be my clogged spot in my fairly new all-in-1. I just took off the white round blower cover and black heater element cover and there wasn't much lint in them. Thanks for showing this and going slowly.
Perfect, i just cleaned mine LG by this tutorial. I do recommend to remove fan drum from the axle (screw-thread with opposite direction) and clean fan blades and under the drum too. Lot of lint were "sticked" on blades.
And also check rubber door sealing at the upper part, because it is often dryed and burned by hot air. And then rupture is only matter of time... It has to be replaced :(
Dear Sir, I followed your video step by step and thanks' to you my LG washer/dryer is working just like it did the day that I purchased it... I thank you for this very helpful video!
Thx a lot for this nice and detailed tutorial! Just finished cleaning the wet air vent, it was totally clogged with lint, I expect drying to work well again. Once again thx!!
Thanks for the video, worked perfectly. If the manufacturers incorporated a way of flushing the condenser tube during the cleaning cycle programme it would go a long way to eliminate the need to carry out this repair. I have "religiously" run the tub cleaning cycle on the first weekend of every month since purchasing the machine yet the condenser tube was completely clogged after a 18 months use.
afaik, recent Miele combos like WT1 do have something like it with their "rince-out fluff" cycle. Though it's not perfect and the heating element portion on top of the drum will still need cleaning at some point (and a new seal).
Thank you! This was very similar to my 2 year old LG WM3997HWA. Close enough for me to follow along and clean the massive amount of lint out. I will now likely do this maintenance annually.
Thanx mate! The best video I ve found, with the least of screws removed. Note: for my model, LG F 14A8 RD, I did not have to remove the cables from the top black part.
Awesome tutorial man, I ended up having to do exactly this. Including drilling a hole in the back pane for access to that weird screw :D Worked like a charm. You saved me quite a bit of money, take my thumbs up and gratitude!
Thank you so much for this video! Fixed it right away, not to mention how much $ it saved me:) I love this little combo unit, I wish LG would have addressed the issue of this clog and made it easier to clean. Thanks!!
Thanks for the vid. I used this to fix my LG. Works like new again. I didn't remove the entire vent thought. I just used a shop vac with a rubber hose attached to it and was able to get the junk out of it so it literally took me 15 minutes to fix/
This worked perfectly on my WM3477HW. However the screw where you had to use a wrench, on mine it had a plastic guide in the way so I had to drill the hole. I took about a baseballs size worth of lint out and now it drys perfectly! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video!
Thank you for this! I have one of these in Hawaii and they're just not very common in the US at all. I was worried I wouldn't be able to find someone to fix it. Now no need! I got a ton of lint out and discovered the sensors were all coated too. All clean and working like new!
Thank you for an excellent guide. Worked on model F14A8YD and I actually didn't have to disconnect any wires which I'll remember next time. We've used the machine for about 18 months and the thing was stuffed with lint. This should defo be in the manual as regular maintenance, since there is no lint catcher.
After drying, the laundry was still wet, THIS WAS HELP ME: if I look at the washing machine from the front from the top, in the left part is a hose that leads to the drum of the washing machine (during drying it sprays on the outer wall of the drum and water condenses from drying), I remove this hose and cleaned the entrance to the washing machine drum (it was clogged and the water did not spray on the outer wall of the drum but directly on the laundry) and FIXED (LG F84J7TH1W)
Many thanks mate for this video!👍👍 This fixed the issue of our machine. Saved a lot of money. I cleaned the condenser and the fan. It working like new again. 😀
Thanks so much for your video FoxBox72! It worked with my LG Modell F14A8RD5 perfectly :-) After 4 years using it, there was no airflow in the condenser and the clothes and towels were still damp or wet after drying finished... Now it's like a new machine and drying works very good - so happy about that!
Nice Video, this did resolve the issue with my machine not drying clothes properly. I also noticed on my machine that the heating element on the top has melted the top of the drum slightly and just under the front of the drum a crack had appeared :( For the awkward screw on the back, you can easily move the drum with a little pressure to get tit to line up with the existing hole (with the plastic plug) no need to drill a hole! Removal, cleaning and refitting took me under an hour.
This tutorial was incredible! Many thanks! I am hoping this does the trick. I also bought the heating unit just in case. Not sure if you have a video on that as well?
It worked well for me the first time. I bought used one and ended up cleaning everything together with the fan and heating element and every tube i could disconnect ( with straw brush). For uncomfortable screw i just pushed the drum to the side. It worked amazing. However i am a rescue house with 5 cats, it lasted about 5 months before it stopped drying properly again 😖 this time just the white tube is clogged and i am thinking what else can i do to not do it every 6 months 🙄 other than that amazing video. Easy and simple to follow. Thank you!
Yooo thank you for this video gee...I had to call into work cuz I been havin wet clothes and I found the ugly issue 😬 much worst than how yours looked lol! Take care!
Protip: make sure to run Tub Clean every month. We forgot this regular maintenance feature and 8 months later I clothes are still wet. Ran Tub Clean with a little soap and 2 capfuls of bleach, cleaning the filter each time (amazing amount of lint came out), and now it is back to working.
Are you talking about a different model? The whole problem (and the reason LG had to discontinue tech support) is that they forgot to put a filter into this one!!
Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask those that this fix has worked for, whether anyone had any error codes display or did the drying just suddenly stop being effective? I have the same issue - clothes suddenly damp /wet even after extremely long drying times. I contacted a repairman who is pretty insistent that if there was such a lint blockage that there would be an error code displayed, which there isn't (my model LG1248RDP). I don't want to suggest / attempt this fix if that is right. No-one has mentioned any error codes, so I am hopeful that this will be the appropriate fix for me. Great video FoxBox.
Hi, it's happened three times on our machine with no error codes (hence this video). The error codes I've seen tend to be related to blockages in the pump (at the front) not lint in the duct.
Mine was not drying clothes. I opened it, cleaned it a bit the upper parts (didn't remove the whole plastic tube), but I messed with the motor that spins the fan blades. It was rolling smooth, now it is kinda stuck. And when I've put everything back in place, the display shows the error dHE when I set it to drying function.
Literally did this today, took me a little over an hour, but that was because I was being anal and wanted to clean the vent completely making it look like new. Attached a bit of fabric to the end of some wire and scrubbed it clean inside.. thanks for video, saved me and the wife some 💰💰💰
I have just finished mine, because it has started to be inefficient for drying... I advise to clean the fan as well that was also extremely dirty. To make hole is not necessary as the springs allow the drum to be moved.
thank you so much, i might have the same issue, i just opened mine, could not pull the plastic vent out as mine have a screw that is placed is a very stupid way which definingly needs re-engineering, so i pressure wash it from top down letting the dirt come out of the plastic to the yard. tomorrow i will vacuum the leftovers. once it is dry and then re-install it. i believe this is caused not only by the cloths lint, the detergent has some part of it, my wife was complaining about it but did not really listen as i bought a good amount of it that lasted a year ;P and now i listen in fact mine had another issue which i believe the jammed dirt caused it which is the heater duct got rusted and broke, replaced it and let's see how it goes. i hope it works (if not, at least i enjoy cleaning it_
Did you also have water remaing on the rubber (on the the door)? Or something else might be blocked in my case. The water is there only after dryer operation, after washing no water remains. Thank you!
Excellent demo thank you! What I fail to understand is... do you have to do this regularly with the LG combo unit? It is a ridiculous amount of work and not worth the time. Why should we have to disassemble the whole unit to get the lint out. Grrrr@@$^$&&%%$#!!! Makes me so mad. What a scam. Buy something else!
mine is the same minus that big plastic bowl. Mine after I removed the Vent i saw a little filter like the ones that Aircondition has that it wasn't really dirty or clogged and right under it was directly the laundry Bin. I could move it with my hand from there.. so while the black thingy produce heat..the vent works without any debris still inside the laundry bin there is not enough heat to dry my clothes.... also i noticed that my dry program stop early by alot and it on the cooldown mode... When it works above the washer is really hot like it should, but inside the laundry bin is not so much... maybe its a faulty thermostat on the dryer? something else?
Hello, i hope someone here could answer my question, cause im going mad!! I have this lg combo 12/8 kg washer dryer, the wash function works perfectly, but the drying cycle makes me mad, i have tried ALL the programs even the timed on setting it to max drying time, i kept running the same (small) amount og clothes through all cycles, it took about 8 hours, and you know what, even after 8 freaking hours the clothes where STILL damp, not a lillte, but as damp as it has just been spun at 1600 rpm. Its like its kinda dries the clothes then wets them, but i sat and watched it for a couple of hours, but it doesnt fill water or anything other than the cold slow water intake that it uses for condensing at the back of the tub, i have disassembled the whole drying section and cleaned out everything, and i does operate "normal" heating and pumping out water whilst its filling a small amount of cold water as mentioned before, but when the program ends the clothes are as damp as when i started the drying cycle.. i had LG to look at it, complete waste of money, the technocian was very arrogant and said "theres nothing wrong, maybe you expect to much of your machine" and i was very furious and very mad when he left.!! To me it sound like something that i dont know of is clogged OR the main control board is faulty, because it gets exstremely hot, and it doesnt matter what cycle, even at "low heat" cycle it gets so hot that i start to worry about somethings melting or it catches fire.. Does anyone here have any suggestions ? As i said my own theory is that theres a problem with the PCB. (Main control board) By the way im a appliance tech myself, but have very little experience with LG. Unfortunately
So could you have just snaked it or washed it while in place from top? Thinking of those plastic long things they have for drains etc...for flushing it all goes out the drain cycle ?
@@FoxBox72 Gave it a shot last Night so we will see...used the hot water Hose to Flush front and back while in spin mode and found a miniature Chiminy sweeper looking thing to clean all the passages after removing the blower and heat rod cover...machine is in a nail salon for Towels only I hate the Lint trap and don't understand what that little black hose is for but drained and put the wet dry vac on it and any other stuff I could...we will see what she says but I appreciate your Video and Help !
You could check for any loose hose or vent connections, but if you have Steam coming from the top of the machine I think for safety you should stop using it and get a professional repair.
they do have a lint removal process - there is a lint trap at the bottom of mine and also the lint is supposed to collect on a seal around the front door - but I rarely find lint in my lint trap and I suspect that over-filling the machine (in my case) or washing clothes with a lot of debris has exascerbated the issue to the point where the normal lint removal process is not able to fix it.
Are you still stuck ? I found the sensor can be a bit tough to get in and out and it takes a bit of 'wiggling', but it should just push back in through the black rubber washer. If you have pulled out the black rubber, don't worry - again with a bit of wiggling and stretching you should find it goes back okay. Let me know how it's going.
Hello David, I have the same issue. Except that I didn't change the moisture sensor because I can't find where it is. Where you able to find out what the problem was? I know models vary, but can you tell me where the moisture sensor/s is located?
This unit is terrible . What was LG thinking . They really missed this ball on this . The idea is great . But the execution is terrible . This is a new unit still pumping out damp clothes / not to mention my clothes have shrunk …unfortunately this is an air bNb so I’ll just get my laundry done at the laundry mat & pay extra
Do you realize you wasted so much time lol could of just use a air hose and couple attachments had it cleaned out in minutes with out taking anything apart
Is it really necessary to remove the plastic vent altogether? I just removed the top fan, then took a wire with velcro at the end and took out a ball of lint that looked like a small rat. Was able to take a few pics and the plastic vent is clean and unobstructed now. The machine still heats quite well, but I'm guessing there is a blockage somewhere else because clothes are warm but damp.
Cleaning the plastic duct in situ might work fine, but mine has got smaller narrow 'channels' in it, where the lint was quite compacted, and I couldn't get to all of it thoroughly whilst in the machine.
Since you’re that far into the machine it’s best to pull the cover off the fan that you removed and clean out the hamster wheel a clean hamster wheel will increase circulation
