I went with the GE Profile Ultrafast 2 in 1. Bought it on June 16, 2022. So far it has been an awesome machine. Normal loads of clothing takes about 2 hours. Washed and dried a complete queen size bedding set in under 3 hours. I really like the ability to toss in a load of laundry and go on about my day, not having to worry about transferring laundry from the washer to the dryer is really nice.

We had a LG all in one washer dryer a few years ago which was the largest capacity unit available at the time. Although the convenience of not switching the load is nice, we found that large loads did not always come out dry (somewhat damp) and we would have to add more time to dry. Cycle times were also longer at 3 to almost 4 hours. But a major problem which eventually caused the unit to fail was the build up of massive amounts of lint internally around the drum which is inaccessible unless you disassembled the rubber seal around the door to gain access (pain in the butt). Because the same lint goes through multiple cycles of washing and drying, it forms a crusty layer which builds over time. Switched to the LG Washtower and it made a huge difference in maintenence. The laundry cycle time is shorter and I can live with switching the load to the dryer.

The difference in the Ultrafast may be the lower amount of lint generated by the heat pump technology using lower temperature rather than the high temperature generated by the traditional dryer tech. The lint filter also seems bigger. Only time will tell regarding long term reliability though.

With the GE we're hoping the ability to put in clothes and press a button will let our small kids take on the responsibility of doing their own laundry sooner, and the ability to start a cycle before bed or stepping out wins over a higher throughput. Or at least the possibility of these things is worth the risk of buying a new product for our family. We'll see how it goes.

I chose the GE because there is no way I can lift wet laundry in a tower. I’m struggling to lift it out of the tall top loader I’m replacing. Next week my GE arrives and I will only need to handle dry laundry and it’s going to make my life easier. Now to go clean out the 24 foot vertical vent one last time and cap it off!

We bought the LG when our 15+-year-old Maytag Neptune stackable started to fail. Paid $1799 at Lowe's. Both are great options. If we had a choice when we purchased and retired, we don't generate large volumes of laundry we probably would have gone with the GE so we could have lived with the ONE LOAD AT A TIME GE. Having said that being a brand-new product we would have needed to buy a 5-year extended warranty. With the LG we had a couple of years of real-world data to help us, and for use, and the LG is a great-looking machine.

We have the GE and like it so far. We wash mixed loads of clothing and towels. Our times have been closer to 2 hours or slightly less. We are a family of 2 so we aren't doing multiple loads in a day. Can see how it's not the choice for everyone. We like the idea of no dryer vent to keep clean and reduced fire risk.

I've been going over washers and dryers especially both these models. I did like your point about forgetting to switch clothes into the dryer. I love how they are a heat pump to dry. But I didn't realize the LG has jet sprayers. I'm still torn between the two and will have to see which one comes up better priced during black Friday if I can wait that long. Currently have no washer dryer and can't stand going to the hot Laundromat.

Love all the reviews, soooooo very helpful to this nurse mom if 3! Adding a 2nd set to our laundry room Trying to decide between the ultrafast or Miele washer/dryer. Can’t add another 240 and need ventless. Current 1 washer/dryer can’t keep up. (Or maybe that’s me that can’t keep up 😂).) torn between new tech or proven reliability in the Miele. 🤪

As a former owner of an LG refrigerator that went through 2 compressors in its 6 year life, with no warranty replacements available, consider this a pass for me. Before anyone comments they’ve fixed it, the 2nd was the new and improved compressor. There was also the LG minisplit that went into the landfill after the compressor sprung a leak after 3 years. No more LG compressors for me, thank you very much.

I recently replaced my dryer and washer with a heatpump washtower. I looked at the new combination washer dryer units for me these carry more risk that the washtower. My old dryer was a heatpump to I am familiar with them and the old one never had any reliability issues. The washtower is essentially 1 x washer, and 1 x heat pump dryer in an integrated frame. As such it really does not carry any more risk in terms of long term reliability that a seperate washer and heat pump dryer. The combination washer dryer units whilst convenient and a good concept have historically had a bad reputation for reliability. There would need to be a bit more time and some data to back up the reliability of the new crop of these washers before I would ever consider purchasing one.

One thought: With the increasing prevalence of EVs and heat pumps replacing gas furnaces it makes sense to free up a 240 volt circuit when there is need to accommodate needs elsewhere. So, for me, if I would want to buy an electric car or upgrade my furnace to a heat pump the GE with the 120 volt circuit makes more sense. LG has a great reputation for reliability BUT it has had some serious issues with recent compressor failures with many of its fridges. Also, think of the convenience of just tossing clothing in dirty and pulling it out clean and dry. Unless you are doing laundry for a large family- the GE seems to be the best candidate.

I can't afford either but for me and my situation of course the ge cause of the 120 and the ventless technology no need to buy 240 volt service and pay for an electrician equals more cost. I already have a separate gas dryer and washer. For a big family will be nice to have two ge's

Thank you so much for another very helpful review! I’m considering the LG Washtower but I’ve had problems with mold and mildew on the rubber seal of my 8-year-old LG front loader and the spring loaded spacer that holds the door slightly ajar for evaporation has broken twice. When I lived in Japan in the early 90s I had a heat pump washer/dryer combo like the GE Profile and it did a great job but took three hours to do a single load. I’m leaning towards the LG Washtower but wondering if it’s worth the extra money to get the heat pump version. Any thoughts?

Update: I bought the LG Washtower with heat pump. Very quiet. Puts out a little ambient heat into the room but not damp. I’ve had a little trouble customizing the settings at times (e.g. adding an extra rinse or steam). The iPhone app is nice but a few glitches. Also it’s a little finicky about too many suds and will show SUD error or even stop mid-cycle so I have to use the minimum amount of detergent (I use HE liquid) and I it doesn’t like borax pre-wash because it’s too sudsy. Apart from those nitpicks I like it.

I love the idea of the GE with a one exception: it doesn’t have a water heater. One would think that a machine that expensive would include a hearing feature. Perhaps it was a compromise between allowing the machine to run on 110v versus hearing feature. An advantage of the LG is that this is two machines which means of one is broken the other one still can be used.

what do you mean no water heater? meaning it only uses cold water?
@horseshoe_nc
@horseshoe_nc Год назад
@@iposttvshowssome front load washers have a heating element in the bottom. It is there to maintain hot water temperature during the entire wash cycle. The GE Profile Ultrafast 2 in 1 does have the ability to use hot water. I'm just not sure if it has it's own heating element. I typically wash with cold or warm water, so having a built-in heating element wasn't a concern for me.
@nathanbentley1939
@nathanbentley1939 Год назад
@@horseshoe_nc I'm pretty sure it does have a heater, simply because it has an extra hot wash option. If that means what I think it means, then there's no way it could have that if it didn't have a heater.

We had ours for a week before we returned it. It takes forever to dry full loads, when the water kicks in it's very loud and you have to constantly vacuum out lint that gets past the filter. I also missed that I couldn't run two load at the same time. So, yes it was a fail for us also. Oh by the way, did you know that this unit takes refrigerant or Freon for the heat pump. All I see is $$$ if the heat pump leaks freon or breaks.

With all the maintenance that I've seen was the GE I shouldn't have to be digging out lint with special tools and everything else that's just crazy I'll stick with my brand new 2-in-1 removable agitator on my top load whirlpool and my GE dryer which is the quietest dryer on the planet because if I'm going to spend $2,500 plus tax I shouldn't have to do anything but push some buttons and clean off the lint like a normal dryer that's nuts all these people using Swiffer sweepers and special tools and vacuums what the hell it's supposed to be a washer and dryer I don't mess around on my washer and dryer like that I clean the wind out of the dryer the end takes me a whole 5 seconds and I have used portable washers and dryers over the years because going through cancer treatments I cannot afford plumbing in my laundry room so I was stuck with a portable washer so I just got me a portable dryer to go with it and even on those things you do not have all that hot mess that you got with a 2500 machine that's just crazy

The GE combo looks slick but I feel like it was a miss to make this only 4.8 cu ft. But I'm tempted to get it for the basement to solely wash white towels and bulky bedding, where time isn't an issue and I'm likely to forget swapping from washer to dryer. Can you do a video on the top loading impeller design LG washers with steam and Turbo360 (5.5 cu ft) ? So many folks are saying the wash times are super quick.

You got the 120 volt number right for the GE but then stated the LG uses 220 volt for their dryer. Yet later said the LG uses 240 volts. In the United States no one has 220 volts, or even 110 volts. It's been 120/240 volts for many, many, many decades. I know it gets confusing because it used to be 110/220 volts. You also said the overall service calls were 9.5% yet the graphic showed 9.7%.
