DIY washing machine top replacement due to rusting issues. Does not take all that long and you save a boat load over buying another machine. www.ebay.com/i...
I think they tried and it was dismissed. I spent almost 2 hours talking to customer service today and all they offered was a rebate if I buy a brand new one. 🙄
I have the same issue as well, and don't know what to do with it because it still works well. I stopped using chlorine in the dispenser about 3 years ago, but the rust just kept spreading.
@@josephgarcia2979 I repaired mine by taking the top off and wire brushing all the rust off and then using POR-15 to cover the rust spots and entire underside
Unfortunately you spent most of the time telling us about the mic problems, mildew problems, and unboxing , then time-lapsed through the actual procedure of replacing the top cover.
I even turned it down to quarter speed to see what I could pick out but that turns it into a slide-show ... and no audio of him talking through what he is doing, what he sees and etc.
Don't waste your time. He never actually walks through HOW TO GET THE TOP off. I hate to sound unkind, but I'm already triggered because I discovered my $1200 washing machine is rusting away after 3 years.
Ok I replaced the top on ours about 10 months ago. Same rust location, all due to the bleach dispenser. After replacing the top I covered up the bleach dispenser with blue painters tape (really looks nice). Now my wife pours in the bleach directly to the tub after its fills with water. Works great now. The new tub shocks showed up yesterday and they will go in soon. This will be our second set on this washer. Good luck out there.
Just ordered my new top and will be performing this replacement soon. Hopefully, this is not a PITA project. As for the new top, I'm considering adding some additional sealant around the bleach tray so that the new one doesn't rust out like original. This will be the last LG product I ever purchase...very poor customer service. They know this is a manufacturer defect and refuse to take any responsibility...the LG CS fool I spoke to said rust on top is not a warranty item...just spray some white paint on it.
You are phenomenal! Washer Works great, but as with you Rust 🥴! Washer 10 years old, ahhh the Good old days growing up when they lasted near 20 years. Long story short not with a Fat Wallet, bit the bullet. Purchased new one. Ahhh Well happy Wife. Thanks Bud!!!!
Another option is to sand to bare metal, paint with Rustoleum primer followed by matching appliance touch up paint. White is easy to find. Odds are your new panel will eventually rust in the same location because the factory paint does not appear to seal the steel against acid. It may help to apply some clear silicone in the affected area of the new panel. Poor paint selection, prep and seal at the factory. The edges of metal are the weak link for factory paint jobs. Once the corrosion starts, it will spread under the paint. They could have put a clear vinyl wrap over the steel in this location for pennies at the factory.
We have never, ever used bleach to wash clothes and our LG Waveforce rusted also. We have always poured Oxy Clean into the tub with our whites. It makes no sense why ours started rusting. It is completely corroded 9 years later! We love the washing machine except for the fact that it rusted and corroded.
Samsung has the exact same look as this washer with the same problem... one or the other company made this washer. samsung forums have the same issue... thanks for the vid
When the top is off there are brackets on underside for lid’s hinges. You will want lid in open position for removal and reinstall because there are springs in the brackets. In the open position it takes the pressure off springs so they can be removed.
Could have been useful if less intro bs and slow down the actual disassembly please explain why I need to remove the back. Not disagreeing just short of actual explanation and demonstration.
Is this still an issue with the brand new LG top loaders? I'm about to purchase one of their agitator washers. I currently have a very old Whirlpool and not only is the bleach dispenser rusted, there's rust in the painted/white drum. So, I know it was (at one point at least) an issue with Whirlpool washers as well.
I’m not sure if still a problem but I would bank that it is. Try to go stainless steel if you can. Most painted metal will rust at some point because metal is so thin on these and poor metallurgy IMO
We also have the LG Waveforce. These are NOT CHEAP. It starting rusting around the same time as the one above, and as of yesterday I now have chunks of rust falling into my barrel with my clothes. This will be the LAST LG product I will purchase!! Fuming.
IMO it’s worth it. There are a lot of videos showing this that are much better than mine. I don’t have a studio nor do I get paid for any of my videos so yes it’s not going to be up to par with what some people need or want.
That one was a PITA. Door is spring loaded. Fasteners on on backside of lid. You’ll want to have top off and upside down propped up with lid open for removal and reinstall. Sorry, so many things I wish I videoed differently but I’m new at this and will be learning for awhile.
Not to be a grammar nazi but... should be “in” not “on”. There is no problem with mildew on the painted surfaces. That might work great for doing a tub and hose clean which would be “inside”. I will definitely try this as the hoses were slimy with mildew substance.
@Julie Erdman I was given a Samsung Washing machine 4 years ago & never thought to open the lid & notice the rust stains in the fabric softener area. I was gonna save the machine until I moved into a House but now that I see the rust stain & I want to sell it, will this Sugelary mold remover do the trick or is it worth even selling ?
www.ebay.com/itm/164682318981. Here is a relisted top from the same EBay lister. I apologize I either forgot or some of those get removed when they expire. Not sure but thank you for bringing it up.
Oh look a “Richard” in the comments. You could have just asked how to take it out. I can’t video every part on taking something apart. I do this for free and constructive criticism is good and I like to know what I need to do better. What I don’t need is a “Richard” making nasty comments because a free video didn’t meet his exact requirements. Have a great day.
