LGBT Representation that Matters (to me) 

Will always remember having my bisexual awakening from playing Bully Scholarship Edition, and discovering you could flirt with and kiss some of the boys as well as the girls, took kid me a long time to figure out why I enjoyed doing that so much

Axton from Borderlands 2 is also bisexual. In the Dragonkeep DLC there's a bit of a throwaway line where he says he'll spend the treasure money on girls, and "sometimes dudes".

GOOD representation matters. Especially Netflix shows tend to force representation just to end up with some annoying stereotype which is bad representation. Give is good diverse characters in fitting settings that are more than their s-uallity and race.

Games should vary their playable characters more. For example, in Legend of Zelda, you always play as Zelda, I get that he's the titular protagonist but we could play other characters, like for example the princess.

I *do* have a problem with "forced diversity", but not for the reason you think. I'm not some alt-right bible-thumper who has a heart attack when they hear a pronoun. I myself am agender (identify with no gender), and have ASD. For me, diversity for the sake of looking inclusive often leads to tokenism and let me assure you, bad representation can be worse than no representation. Take it from me as a member of a group of people often depicted as being rude, childlike, prone to meltdowns, and incapable of functioning independently.

Some of the best representation is always the ones where it isnt in your face and they just exist in the story like everyone else. Eg. Claire from cyberpunk. Not that you ignore possible implications of that character being lgbt or ignoring it entirely, just letting people be people.

This is a great video man, genuinely gives me hope for our future. Humans are complex creatures, and any forced limitations on a persons existence is wrong. We are evolving socially to truly understanding the beauty in all of us!

I really like when writers don't make the character's whole personality about their sexuality. It often makes for a way more interesting character and development in my opinion, I really like to see that representation but when they are more than "gay character 3452 is gay" same with straight relationship in fiction it's interesting when it's not the whole point of a character and it doesn't need to define them, they can just be a random character. LGBTQIA+ characters don't need to be in the spotlight for them to be interesting I think it's even better when they are just that a character they feel more integrated in the story and feel more natural to me at least. I mean no offense against anybody of course it's just my opinion and it may not reflect what a lot of people think. Live the way you want to live and be as happy as you can be no matter who you are 🌈

4:18 This is what we actually need and what more people are ok with. Making things painfully obvious is annoying and awkward at times. I have no problem with gay or trans people, I've had both gay and trans friends. I've never had a problem with them with regards to their sexuality or decisions regarding their own body or pronouns. However, I've also had friends who were super excessive about their being gay, I had one guy who frequently flirted with me, talked about how much attention he was getting on different apps, talking about getting fucked, and that's great for you bro but I don't need or want to know, we are no longer friends for obvious reasons. When being gay is someone's entire personality or its unnecessarily forced into places it feels out of place in, its just really bad pr. Treat any and all inclusion roughly similar to any other sort of media, if it feels seamless and not out of place then people wont have near as much of a problem. There will always be freaks who are just upset to be upset, but many of the people who are against DEI are against it because its forced, out of place, and excessive. If you do want to go overboard in the flamboyant gay tropes, people like bon clay are the perfect example that gay is fine, if the character is good. Bon clay is a warrior, everybody loves that sweetheart. Another great example is Hammerlock and Wainwright, I like both characters, and I enjoyed the dlc where we work to make their wedding happen, no problems at all for me there, they're both angels and I love them. I agree that adding diversity isn't bad, and people will get upset and call everything forced diversity simply because they don't want any of it involved, but forced diversity definitely does still exist. Something that has personally made me slightly uncomfortable and that has roused a lot of hatred for the lgbt community is how people in the overwatch community have dealt with things. Not sure how much you know about overwatch, but I've loved that game since release, not so much in ow2, but I still love it. Whenever pride month comes around, or even just throughout the year, the ow community gets incredibly cringe with "diversity". I constantly see in all of the ow twitter posts tons of people begging for certain characters to be gay, trans or bi. We have gay and non-binary characters in ow, and nobody really ever cared that they were gay, because they were also normal or respectable characters. The problem is people are begging for more characters to be gay, making teirlist of what the characters sexuality would be, except there's no straight tier, saying if you aren't gay you're in the wrong community...? Blizzard has changed their social media profile pictures to rainbow, made pride maps and pride crosswalks in game, made lgbt characters, and the community begs for more. As a straight white dude, I have never cared about race or sexuality being included, but this community is insanely obsessive over it, to a fault. These are only some examples, I don't play ow around this or look at ow on social media at this time because it is genuinely everywhere and its just weird. The focus should never be more on sexuality and appeasing certain groups than on making compelling and actually good characters. Another example of this, which isn't related to pride, but I feel is on a similar note is the new assassins creed game. We've had black side and main characters in the franchise, and in similar franchises, and nobody has really ever cared. But they're making a game set in feudal Japan, hundreds of years ago, in a place that was 99.99% Japanese people, and they choose one black samurai, who's history is questionable at best, and they make him main character. This sort of thing is what people mean with forced diversity, We haven't had a Japanese main character to my knowledge, so in what world does it make sense to choose the one black man in feudal Japan, for diversity sake. It feels forced, it feels disrespectful, the character isn't nearly as interesting as the many many Japanese legends they could've chosen but this is what they do, and then they get mad and call people racist when they get flak. There is no denying that there is hateful people who will hate for no reason other than to hate and hurt people. There are racists, homophobes, transphobes, etc. They will always exist and that is unfortunate, but so many other people get labeled under that umbrella because of genuine concerns and problems. Like I said earlier, putting these character into games and shows is great, when they are cool characters there's no issue and they will be well received if its fitting. The black character they are putting into this game was real and could've been a baller side character that I'm sure they could've made well loved, like the trans character in the first half of the video you mentioned (The bulge scene is hilarious btw). Many people don't dislike diversity, but lazy diversity, Keep making cool diverse characters, don't be afraid to poke fun at them, make their character interesting, and fitting of the story they are in, that is what we need. I will admit though, with all of the shitty diversity, people have become predisposed to dislike or be weary of diversity, even if it's good, so it's likely harder than ever to make a diverse character that will be well received. Good video overall, as per usual, nice to see someone else's perspective in a non intrusive way. Sorry for the essay. I'm not wasting my time checking it over so hopefully it makes some sort of sense. Much love big bro!

I fucking hate when a Show or Game character is super on the nose about being gay. I fr just wanna play a game or watch the show i cant give 2 shits if the dude is gay. I also get annoyed alot at Devs putting in gay characters simply for the reason of there being a character that is gay, like overwatch where you boot up the game every 2 weeks to see a new Flag on a new Hero lol
