Here's one game show from the mid-70s that is among my favorites that often go overlooked. This show involved a lot of betting and guesswork based on the bizarre objects presented on the stage and the celebrities' colorful descriptions of them.
This particular show, hosted by Bill Armstrong, has on the panel Larry Hovis, Betty White (whose husband opens the show on a surprising note), Burt Reynolds, and Norman Fell. Which of the four contestants will win the prize package of the day?

Burt Reynolds & Norman Fell starred together in the 1970-71 ABC series Dan August. 1977 became a big year for them as they starred in Threes Company (Norman) and Smoky & the Bandit (Burt).

I remember Soupy Sales being on this show; I was too young to know who he was, so I thought the name was something he'd made up on the spot. Consequently, I almost couldn't tell if he told the truth; I assumed everything he said was a lie. A thousand thanks for posting this; I haven't thought about it in ages, and my wife had never heard of it.

This is an early '77 episode of the American game show "Liar's Club". On this episode, the four celebrity panelists competing are Larry Hovis, Betty White, Burt Reynolds & Norman Fell while the four contestants are Christine, Michael, Moirre & Don. 🇺🇲 🇺🇲

Did the celebs make up the lies on the spot or were they given written stories to present? The show credits didn’t list a writing staff.

They were given explanations, but clearly were encouraged to ad-lib. The 1978 season was wild--censors must have been asleep!

First appearance of Allen Ludden on Liar's Club who would take over as host in 1977 (he was working on Stumpers at the time). Betty White and Burt Reynolds would later appear a decade later on Win, Lose or Draw. While Bill Armstrong would be promoted to executive producer to the All New Liar's Club, Larry Hovis had to battle a lawsuit against Ralph Andrews after his involvement on the ill-fated Yatnzee and Lingo which bankrupted his company.

The video quality on this appears as if it was filmed with a vacuum cleaner and recorded on a potato.

VHS at EP doesn't fare 45 years as well as SP, but we're lucky to have it. It's a pity they edited out the commercials; those would be almost as much of a Time Capsule. Though this is just raw video, image cleanup is getting really good, and may be automated shortly, but there's a lot of footage preserved like this to process. It might ultimately be easier to have the particulars built into a 3D simulated environment and the 2D video rendered from that.
