Well KarrotKun1, we had a bunch of musical variety shows over the last few decades, besides just Lawrence Welk (who, by the way, had some top-notch musicians!) However, the Networks, in all their grand wisdom, tell us that nobody wants to see that anymore. Really!? I guess we'd rather have an absolute glut of reality shows instead???????? No thanks! I say, "Bring back the music!!!!!"
Me too!!! All this talk about him being gay is silly. No one cared!! I mean it literally was never even thought about! It was an amazing time to be alive!
My family used to stop EVERYTHING when Liberace came on TV when I was a kid. Not with Lawrence Welk show, a big hit with some.....but Liberace? Ace it Lee!
Who else heard the 'oops' @ 0:38, as well as several other stumbles. There was almost certainly some film 'trickery' in this recording - but who cares?! Showman Supremo.
When I think of what tries to pass itself off as talent today compared to Liberace it is a joke. I mean c'mon, JZ and beyonce. He has no talent at all. A former drug dealer and she just shakin and bakin. Neither one of them ever put in the time this guy did to master his craft. Liberace represented a time when America really had talent.
Lol well of course when you compare Liberaci with a rapper it's easy to try and claim that people these days have no talent. You're just unaware of the hidden gems of talent that the world has to offer today
There are people today just as talented as him now And there were people in his era who had little talent who got popular. You really cannot generalize.
Be nice to harness the magic of a persons talent before they die. And be able to later transfer that talent to someone deserving or choice of the donor! I think in the future if not already is possible!
When Liberace appeared on The Muppet Show, Jim Henson remarked that he was a truly delightful man... but a "surprisingly bad pianist". I can only assume he was being facetious.
I love this and Liberace's infectious warmth and manner but have to say that I don't think its a live take. If you check out at 2.15 there's a glissando in the piano part that Liberace isn't playing and I think to have the drummer that you hear in the background keeping in time with the strings they have recorded this earlier. Nevertheless still love it !!
Абсолютно непересічна особистість!!! Зрозуміло, що у людини абсолютний музичний слух, але стільки складних композицій тримати в голові!!! Шкода, що розійшлися у часі, і на пострадянському просторі Ліберечі практично невідомий.
My own father, an accomplished pianist himself, loved this song and played it often. Though discussion of Liberace's alternative lifestyle was TABOO in our house, my dad nevertheless always respected Liberace as a pianist. Even taking me to see Liberace in concert back in the early 1970's. I loved the show, and gay or not, you should have seen the women line up to drool at the expensive jewelry he wore!
Sadly, we live in a world that's constantly paranoid about "gay". Don't we have bigger things to worry about?? I read in a few places that Cole Porter was gay. My ultra- conservative grandmother would've shit her pants if she knew this but she loved his music!!
I absolutely agree. To a point, we were raised to be, understanding, and respectful by my parents. That helped prepare us for changes down the road. But like your Grandmother, they themselves were brought up VERY differently.
@KarrotKun1: (1) Because audiences would rather watch cleverly edited programs of people being jerks to one another and believe that it's "reality", and (2) there was only *ONE* LIBERACE!!!!
He had an effervescent and courageous lifestyle that enabled him to live a happy life of kindness to others and make the most of his musical Talent at the same time. I think that is to be admired greatly. The pity is that some people are so narrow-minded that they can't understand that.
