What is a license plate reader camera?
A license plate reader camera, LPR camera for short, is a specialized video surveillance camera that is capable or capturing video clear enough for a human to identify the numbers and letters on license plates when reviewing recorded video. In addition, LPR cameras typically have built-in software that can detect license plates.
Some LPR cameras can also automatically read the numbers and letters on the plates and record them to a database on the recorder. This is sometimes called ANPR software and it stands for automatic number plate recognition. LPR can also stand for license plate recognition.

What is a license plate capture camera?
A license plate capture camera, LPC camera for short, is a specialized video surveillance camera that is capable or capturing video clear enough for a human to identify the numbers and letters on license plates when reviewing recorded video. The cameras are able to compensate for the high rate of speed that cars may be traveling. They also compensate for headlight and tail light glare. LPR cameras adjust for these factors as well. Unlike LPR cameras, LPC cameras DO NOT have built-in software to recognize license plates or the numbers and letters on them.
