Welcome back to another crazy, busy week in my life! You can also use the code BLOOM10 to save $10 off of your next box at fabfitfun.com! I’ve partnered with FabFitFun on this video. This is my impression of the FabFitFun ad-ons and all opinions are my own. I have been using their boxes + products for almost a year--and I truly love it.
In this video I take you through a week in my life and sit down with you whenever I am able to. This week was tough--it is always crazy starting a new unit, but exciting at the same time. Teaching can be hard and we hold so many roles as educators. I just try to remember why I started in the first place and THAT keeps me going. Throughout the video I share some moments where I lecture about the importance of self-care--it is so important for our classes to know that it is okay to take care of themselves and make time for themselves, they need to! Especially when they have SO much on their plate. I also share some of my favorite products that I have been trying (love me some self-care time). Like I said, this week was busy, but that is what teaching is all about! You have good days and bad days, but at the end of the day, we are making a difference.

I agree! Her videos honestly have inspired me to head back to school and achieve my bachelors degree to become a teacher. I’ve been limited by my teachers back when I was in elementary all the way through my sophomore year of high school, I was looked down on because of my learning disabilities and not one teacher took the time to help get better, they focused on the “perfect” students. Which is why I want to become a teacher, I want to let the students know that I’m here to lead them to success whatever that looks like for them! I don’t want them to go through what I went through as a student.. it honestly still affects me to this day, but I’m no longer letting it get to me!

AdaMarie Hernandez I have had to work on my chronic lateness, I’m not a teacher yet, I’m in the program now in school. I’ve gotten better over the years but oh my gosh I have always been someone who rushes in the morning and never gave myself enough time! I’ve learned if I am more calm & collected I get things done faster than rushing and forgetting something or having to go back and do something over again.

Teaching is soooo hard. I didn’t even realize it until I was in the profession. I am in elementary ed. It’s such a delicate balance of being kind and friendly to your students, while still being firm and enforcing the rules and lessons in order to get through the day. It’s easy to go too far one way, where the kids look at you like you’re only their friend or like you’re their worst enemy. It’s also very easy to burn out, so I also really liked what you said about self care. So important!!! Thank you for sharing 💕.

Teaching is reallly hard and tough. A lot of students don't want to learn and prefer to be on their cell phone. The pay doesn't match the amount of work Teachers put in. Yes the students needs good teachers since a lot of parents especially single parents don't have that time. Discipline is missing in so many homes...

I totally get you when you were talking about how hard it is to be a teacher. I work at my old high school as a teacher assistant. So I work directly with the kids, you know helping them with their work, and figuring out what they what to do after high school and it can be soo frustrating some times! Some kids are so smart but have no motivation to do the work and it’s so depressing when you can’t do anything about it

I lived for Shakespeare in English! I played Romeo in a staged reading in high school! It was so much fun! As a suggestion you can use modern day works to showcase how much impact Romeo and Juliet has in today’s society. For example you can show your class West Side Story. What is your favorite Shakespeare play? Mine is Macbeth!

I am currently in my last semester of my undergrad and I am student teaching in a fourth grade classroom. I absolutely love teaching and all the doors it opens for students and the people in the education field. But, you are completely correct in saying that teaching is more than just the glitter and all the fun. I honestly believe that being a teacher is only like 20% actually teaching and more of differentiating instruction for all the students, measuring their growth, filling in any gaps, meeting their IEP goals, listening to parent's and administration's concerns. It's such a rewarding job, but there is just so much that goes into it that people don't see.

OMG I love that you are so honest about teaching!! I'm student teaching right now and I feel like my whole self has gone through some sort of shock, and just like you said in your video, there are small things that can just change your entire schedule for the month or second guessing the way you handled a situation with a student! I completely understand and love that you are so honest about teaching because there are still people I hear saying that teaching is so easy and its not as hard as other majors. It's so hard, because teaching changes you, but not just once. It's always changing you and opening you up to new and different things, that's what makes it so great at the same time. Anyways, just wanted to say that I love what you do!

I just found your channel and I am so glad I did. I have wanted to be an English high school teacher for my whole life, and now I am in college and doing my observations in order for me to get into the major. When talking to the teachers I observed, all of them said how most people who come in to observe don't go through with the major because they realize how hard it is to actually teach. Or how many teachers now hate being teachers, I can't count the amount of times when I have told my teacher I want to teach and they give me a pitiful look and say, "Why would you do that?" It's really discouraging to hear that come from your teachers, but I refuse to let that negativity change my mind. I know how much I am going to love teaching the future, and teaching my favorite thing in this world will just be a cherry on top. I know there will be really hard times, but I am ready to face them with open arms.

I just found your channel and I am so sad because I wish that even one of my teachers in highschool was as kind and cool and sweet as you. Your energy makes me feel like I would have actually been less as stressed at school if I had a mentor like you.

I am starting Shakespeare monologues soon. We will be going through the decoding. Next year, I plan to get the No Fear books to read a Shakespeare play as a unit next year!

I love that you use the No Fear edition! I do theater and when I have done Shakespeare, I read through the regular text, then write in no fear to give myself quick reference for the emotion and the beats, and then begin memorization. That method helped me get off book for Rosalind in As You Like It in just a week. No Fear is such a wonderful resource.

I haven't watched the video yet. I just want to say first that last week I had an incident with a student whose behaviour wasn't good (I work at a university) and even though we made it through, I felt terrible for being "an adult" (lol) because I hate calling them out, but after that day I went to your Instagram page and remembered how amazing being a teacher is and how proud I feel of my kids. He's behaving better now and I can even see him learning better. You see, it is hard sometimes but we have the chance to be the teacher we needed during that stage of our lifes and I'll do it for them. Thanks teacher ♥️

I have a fun teacher like you but he's a man. He's super chill and laid back but always tries to find what's best for us to learn. Sometimes my friend's and I eat lunch with him or (since I get my work done super fast) I hang with him during class

Have you ever heard of "tossing lines" with Shakespeare? It's a really fun game that gets the Bard's words on everyone's tongue. Here's how it works - I promise you and your kids will love it. Plus it gets them up on their feet! Cut out strips with important lines or couplets and give one to each student to memorize. Go outside or on the theater stage and stand in a big circle and have students toss a stuff animal ( I have used an armadillo for years) to each other. The student who catches the stuffed animal must say his or her line perfectly or they are out of the circle, but remain as a referee. It gets very exciting as the circle becomes smaller and smaller! You and your school are in my prayers as next week approaches. God bless you all!

Love your positivity! I've never tried to read a whole book in English with my students before (Norwegian kids doing ESL), but currently we're reading "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian", and it's really going well! They are super excited about the book and reading an actual true novel in English, so I definitely will do this again! Your R&J section seems interesting, and I know we're covering Shakespeare next year, and I might try to get a class set of the No Fear Shakespeare version for them.

when you said 20-30 kids, it dawned on me how lucky i am. i am a senior in a public high school in southern california. i have 4 academic classes this year (and 2 theatre classes), and all of my academic classes are tiny. there are 9 kids in my ap stats class, 12 in ap chem, 22 in ap econ, and 13 in ap lit. i feel like i have learned so much more than in years prior because of this. my school typically has large classes, but i got super lucky this year. i honestly forgot how amazing it is, because i don't remember it being any different.
