I worked maintenance for 20 years in the Air Force and loved it. It goes by so fast. I really enjoy your videos and proud to see we have outstanding young airmen like you in the AF today. You have a great attitude and I know you will go far.
People becoming a maintainer. Simply learn your job and embrace the suck if you don’t like it. It ain’t that bad, down and dirty sometimes but the people you’ll meet is one the best things about it.
I'm going in to the Air Force with maintainer job, I can't wait. This video really made me feel so much more comfortable with my decision. This is the first I've heard from someone in a similar field. Thank you for all the information!!
Hello! My husband is currently in BMT (2nd week) and I have binged all your videos to help me understand what the Air Force life is all about! Thank you so much!
He's probably in his 3rd or 4th week or training. During this time we usually receive our Dress blues, and are prepping for BEAST which is 5th WOT. During the 4th week is also when you have your 3rd PT evaluation.
What he is saying is absolutely true. I'm a tech school Instructor Avionics (right now). There is no greater sense of accomplishment then getting into these multi-million dollar jets and getting them to function again. If your in my career field you will spend time on the flight line as well as running every system the pilot does making sure that it works. Believe me it is nothing short of awesome.... Oh +WildBlueYonder Hang up your ABU Top!
+they get to hear and see takeoff, and they won't be as likely to get into a dogfight. As a foreigner, even I salute you, and all others in that area, for your service for your country, and by extension the free world. Someone has to keep those birds in the air. :)
I really love this video. I've been thinking of doing aircraft maintenance but I am afraid this is a job for men like you have to be super strong and stuff and know about tools etc. Thank you for explaining things about the training and the job itself. This video really motivated me. Thank you soooo muchhh!
Michelle Faith Ashley Exactly! I have been thinking of going into the air force after completing High School instead of going straight to college. I believe they pay for the tuition but you will have to provide service, I am not entirely sure as I want to go into the Canadian Air Force. But it is great to see another woman who wants to go into this career.
PPE is Personal Protective Equipment. It covers more than just aprons, goggles and gloves. PPE can also cover Body Armor (Flak Vests) Chemical Ensemble, Helmet, Etc. I worked as a Maintenance Crewchief for 20 years. I loved my job and miss it to this day. Most of what you say is true but it is from a backshop point of view. Those of us who worked on the flightline spent most of our time out there.
@@mickfunny4185 i fucked up my depth perception test cuz i didn't know wtf they wanted me to do at MEPS and security forces and TACP require a 20/20 vision when i have 25/25 with glasses :\
jumper F22, If you are asking me personally... I am flightline avionics which translates to working avionics in the real world (for an airport or an individual airline) and is supposedly high-paying. I plan on doing a full twenty and, if I can help it, do something not-plane-related after I retire from the USAF.
I have being a reservist for 11 years in maintenance in E&E and love it. There are always regular office place issues and politics, but as a reservist you don't really don't have to worry about office politics. You get to learn how things works on aircraft and what it takes for an aircraft to stay up in the air and running.
@@danieldiazgranados468 Keep studying TO's and, at the very least, know where to find everything. Put yourself out there and learn everything you can about your airframe. Sometimes people will look to you as a subject matter expert since E&E has its hands in a lot of different systems. Some people think if it has a wire running through it, punt the job to E&E: "everything else"
Nice bit of nostalgia with this video. I hope you’re still going at it! When I hit 38 and realized if I had stayed in (fuel systems) I’d be retired with my whole life still ahead of me. Great video. Loved Swing shift!
This video is old but still love watching it. I’m at Vandenberg AFB California for tech school. I’m a 2M0X1A which are the people who maintain the Minuteman III ICBM. It’s intense as hell not gonna lie
My name is Anna Tollison. 25 yro female with a strong passion for aircraft. I have adored them since I was a kid. I actually live close to an AF base. Before the pandemic, my grandparents and I would go and watch the Twin Prop Choppers (I beg of your forgiveness, I do not know their proper names.) One day, we were riding through, and we saw the strangest things(at least to us.) The twin prop was rising and falling kinda like suspended by a guide wire. It seemed as if the pilot was not sure if they wanted to take off, or if they wanted to land. However, we didn't notice just how close we were to their National Guard gates, and the guards closed their gates. It was amazing to watch the Twin Prop Chopper hover. I never got to see any of their planes take flight, but I have seen them off in the distance near a runway, and some in their hangers with the doors raised. The college I attend has a school at the base, and I do hope to attend their ACM program very soon(next semester, if things go well.) Just being up close to something that is so large, yet is somehow able to fly, fascinates me. I believe it would be a treat just to touch one of these beasts, but to be able to say " I had even just the smallest part in helping it take flight.....That sounds like a dream!" I have a saying :" I am a girl who love planes, cranes and trains(Choppers too haha.) You are so lucky to have such a wonderful job!
watching your videos is making me more excited about joining. I'm hoping to become an aircraft maintainer and this video makes it seem even better. I appreciate what you do man.
Thanks man, that's all the stuff I need to know. I was thinking about switching to the AF.. I'm in the usmc and I'm a maintainer as well. I know the life man. Stay strong
WildBlueYonder thank you for this vid. keep up uploading videos.they are helpful. I am right now in the process of taking the asvab and i want to score high to have a chance at being an aircraft mechanic.
I just wanted to say you make everything a lot less stressful man. I'm worrying like crazy I leave for bmt March 8th. Refuel/bomber Maintence. Glad you made this video been subscribed for a while :D
+ArsonWithWater sweet! I'm actually is Kyle gotts q and a video asking him questions ! Check it out! And if you have a Facebook add me. Sean Lewis from Valparaiso Indiana
ChristoRJ Johnson it's been going good. I'm just pretty much in processing at my first base and I'm close to home. 7 hours away. In my honest opinion the only thing I hate about the maintainer life is 99% of staff sergeants are just very self centered and are more quick to tell you off rather than helping when you have a question about something .i see a lot of selfishness and no team work in my shop and no one is cool with each other
Sean Lewis that's bad, sergeants become lazy as shit bro. Hold your head up though, once you get it down you'll be ok and even though they selfish ask if you dnt know, rather than fckn up.
Well for the past day and a half I straight up binge watched all of your videos man Lol. You have great content and it's fun to watch, keep up the good work 👍. I just have one question.... Do you know anything about the Aircraft Loadmaster??
Jake, I did a lot of research on loadmaster, it seems like it would be a really sweet gig. In the end the only reason I didn't list it as a preference is because I'm married and I don't wanna be away from my wife for potential 8 days at a time, I am now shipping out in May to do fire protection
+AirForcePower88 Thanks man. I knew the basics for the job, I know that they load up cargo into the planes. But while your stationed at the base i'm not sure what happens?? I mean if you're loading up cargo and going with the cargo to do your mission it doesn't really seem like you would be at base much or at all for that matter?? Do you know how that works?? What do you do at base as your job??
+Jake Pellicer Yeah loadmasters load up C-130s, C-5s, C-17s, etc. And they fly with the aircraft to wherever the destination is. Then they unload or airdrop the cargo in the area. I wanted to be a loadmaster, it was my #1 job!
+Jake Pellicer If you're at your home base, you would just report to work, probably do a lot of inspections, get ready for the next delivery, and train a lot too.
I hope the answer is NO, Did any Aircraft you maintain need To use the egress system? How many different aircraft and Or systems are you trained for? Do you pack the parachutes?
Great!! I took the Asvab last week and recruiter told me I score good on mechanics and electronics. I love computers but I am really good at working with my hands and tools too, so lets see what jobs are aavailable for me this month. Any advice when I step to talk with my recruiter again?!?!
Your video was dope! and very informative bc i take my asvab April 5th I'm nervous and feel like i didn't have enough time to study compared to most 😩 but I'll pray about it also I've been watching alot of of ppl videos like lafeyette life and willblueyonder and they do mention that they can't say certain things or do certain things in their video bc they're watched etc. I'm just letting you know.. to save you the fuss
Hey does anyone happen to know what it's like to be in tactical Air Force Maintenance. I'm trying to determine my job and want to know what their days are like
+Austin Jones We call tactical aircraft maintainers "crew chiefs" in the Air Force. Now, your recruiter can make this job sound AMAZING and really sugar coat it. But from what I've seen, it's not as glamorous as they can make it sound. They always look kinda sad lol. If anyone here is a crew chief, feel free to leave your experiences
Hey man great vids! Thanks for all you hard work put into the vids & all. I have a question which may be a Long shot but: Do you know amything about 1C5X Aerospace Control and Warning Systems/Command and Control & Battle Management Operations?(I read it was renamed to control & battle) Trying to figure out what that entails of generally because I find conflicting info.
What are deployments like as a maintainer? See any combat? Go on patrols? Or are you just on the flight line on base? Could you volunteer to go on patrols? Etc.
awesome video I have the same feeling in my aviation class when we make parts for our museum's b17, anyway when is the soonest my girlfriend and son could move with me when I join the airforce?
+Kenny Plank Awesome! And well, if you aren't married, then the Air Force won't pay for her or her son's travel expenses. That will have to come out of pocket. She also won't be able to live on base or claim any of your benefits unless you're married. :/ sorry about that. But if you live off base, then she could move in at any time
Awesome Video. Glad to have Maintenance. Off Topic Question: I have glasses but I only wear them for Driving. I plan on wearing glasses for BMT but do I have to wear them during PT? I run but Ive never run with glasses.
Let me see if I heard you right, they now have the T.O's on computers, for years I had to lug heavy a** T.O.s out to the flight line, docks, etc. and then when I became NCOIC I had to maintain them suckers, what will they think of next. I went in in 1970, and retired in 2002, things have really changed.
Great video thanks for the info on maintenance. I have a question though im looking into mechanical jobs for the air force and I wanna know if 2a633 and 2a631 which one is better in terms of transferring to a civilian job or if you know any other mechanical jobs good for that please let me know. I will be taking the official test soon.
Hey, so I’m almost done with AMT school and almost have my tickets. I was wanting to join the AF and was wondering how long your tech school is, and would me having prior experience shorten my duration at the tech school?
+atasha hoffman It can be demanding, especially with changing schedules. But it's definitely possible. I'm currently pursuing a pilot's license, my Associates degree, and soon I'll be getting my A&P certification (which is more school). It's not impossible, you just have to stay focused and keep your head on your shoulders
Hey wus up! Nice video! If you pick a certain Afsc and you got the required security clearance, are you guaranteed to get that job? Or can are you allowed to wait for an opening before signing?
Would you recommend a job like this for a gearhead? I'm currently in high school and planning on joining the Airforce. I'm not 100% sure what career path but it definitely has to be something that involves working with my hands, fixing something, or taking something apart
+Sam Smith I grew up working on my own bikes as a kid, then cars when I got old enough to drive (I was a hot rodder and owned a sweet '69 L78 Camaro in HS). After scoring in the 90s on the ASVAB, I got a guaranteed slot in 431x2 school. After graduation and six months of OJT to upgrade to a five level, I was an assistant then a 7-level primary crew chief on C-141s. For my second hitch, I PCS'd on a BOP to a SAC wing as a shift NCOIC of landing gear and flight control specialists on B-52s and KC-135s. I finished my second tour as a technical instructor (TTI) teaching KC-135 follow-on courses. After my second hitch I elected to rejoin the civilian world, but I very much enjoyed my AF experiences and would do it all over again. So yeah, if you have an aptitude for mechanics and can do well on the ASVAB, the AF will give you the chance to do things no one else will.
I might be going in as a tactical aircraft mechanic. what is life like for those guys? how is the work does it suck? do they work a lot of days and hours?
Tactical aircraft is more involved and you’ll easily be working 8-12 hour shifts. But you get to work on fighter jets and A10s and cool shit like that. And you’ll get dirty, so get used to showering, doing laundry, and smelling like jet fuel all the time. But it’s rewarding being able to fix a multi-million dollar air craft so it flies just like new. Plus you’ll get to work outside, so just hope the winters aren’t too harsh when they roll around.
If a person in this field of maintenance transitions after completion of first contract into being an officer, and what's to continue with the career; what options of training are available for him?
I was an AD (aviation machinist mate) in the Navy. I’m looking into getting into the Air Force reserves as a maintainer. But I don’t know which AFSC to do. I hear this hydraulics afsc (2A6X5) is pretty good. Any other suggestions?
F15E crew chief here and yeaaaaa I love my egress inspections but 95% of my 11 career has been out in the cold in all elements. Not true that most of the MX gets done in the backshop for fighters at least. We always out there making AIRPOWER. Shoot we barley in the hangar unless backshop request it, their to use to the climate control backshop i.e. egress, hyd, fab..
hey , can you make a video about going in open general ? I really want to go medic no matter if it's hands on or administration or finances , I just want too be in a hospital due to the fact my initials goal is to become an RN. Im hearing that's my best bet due to the lack of medical jobs . watch a a think ?
I leave May 14th and I am going in as Mechanical Open and I was wondering which job is best for getting stationed overseas or getting deployed? I’m very interested in traveling
hi . so after bullshit high school. i wanna go into aircraft maintenance technician at some college and after that work at a airline or something like that. but what are some more option. ive been thinking about the canadian airforce but im not sure. how do i enroll in such programs to get into the military to maintain planes?
is there anyway i could talk to you, maybe via skype or somthing similar? i would love to get some time to talk to you, i have a little over a month before my ship date.
Can you make a video about jobs new airmen will be able to work right out of bmt? Ive been told some medical jobs you have to be an officer in the Air Force but I'm putting off joining because I can't choose what jobs I'd be more interested in please and thank you .
I'd expect there to be low maintenance but a lot of learning and unfamiliar tasks because of the newness of the jet.. But there shouldn't be anything too difficult
Hey when I graduate college and make the decision to come into the air force, what are the perks of coming into the air force after college then after high school? thanks
do you like it? whats the work life balance like? how many days you work like how many hours a week you think you guys put in? I am thinking about doing the same job you have
