Life as an Ex Jehovah's Witness: Shunning 

I once asked my father, "If Jehovah gave me the free will to choose if I want to serve him or not, why do YOU have a problem when I use my GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO CHOOSE".... silence... lol

Im currently being "shunned" by my parents. Im 31 and i grew up in the kingdom hall. My parents started studying when i was 7 and they never left. The constant studying, meetings, service, just everything has given me much anxiety in my life. I finally got the courage to stand up against my parents and tell them this is not for me about 7/8 years ago. And Im still struggling with my parents not talking to me behind this religion. I dont shun them for going to the kingdom hall but they shun me for not going. I dont treat them differently for their choices but they treat me differently because my choice is not their choice. It was only me and my sister and my sister passed in 2011. So they really cut their only daughter for this religion. 🤔 I think my mom is stuck on seeing my sister again in paradise but idk. I have sooooooo much more to say but its alot. Really enjoyed your video.

When my grandmother was dying from cancer, some of the elders came over to see her. My disfellowshipped aunt was there taking care of my grandmother. My Dad asked her to leave the room while they prayed with her, as if her presence was going to stop Jehovah from hearing their prayer. Ridiculous!🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤬

Maslow hierarchy of needs,I had to tell an elder that you cannot expect a father of three,from a poor country with a wife who is unemployed to quit his job so he can attend midweek meetings.He needs to feed his family and provide resources.There is no logic in what they say and I am learning. 😮😮

The witnesses got my grandma after her mother died. The JW knocked on her door one week after her mother died. They told her she would see her mother again in paradise. Since 1974 our family has been stuck in this religion. All my family is baptized except me. I questioned the religion from day one. If it doesn’t make sense there is a reason it doesn’t make sense.

I just started watching your videos. You are a young, intelligent, and real a@s couple. I left this organization at the age of 17. I am 47 now. I do not miss any of it. My mother is still hanging on. My siblings and father never got baptized. They all live a real "worldy" life. Yet because I am disfellowshipped, they justify treating me like crap. My mother doesn't talk with me about coming back. I shut that down years ago. My parents are up in age now. So I think about what would happen if my mother passed away. She is going to want a funeral at the Kingdom Hall. I know all of my family except me will even be acknowledged. The sad fact is my family won't stand up for me and shut it down. They are really not strong enough to do it. I don't expect them to do anything that they are incapable or unwilling to do. I honestly don't give a damn about having a conversation with any of the witnesses ever. I've actually seen this exact thing when I was a witness. I tried to explain this to my husband. He looked at me dumbfounded. He is like "but that is your mom!" I was like I know this and she knows this, but the control is real. Keep on making the videos! Social media is a genius way to help those who are still on the fence about leaving. Beautiful couple! I was told by a pioneer sister that after someone is disfellowshipped and then reinstated you never treat them the same as before they were disfellowshipped.

They beat down the sheep, no mercy, just their version of loving kindness. 🤮

Its pretty amazing to see how the organization puts a lot of rules out there that can get you disfellowshipped for sinful conduct. But ask a witness or elder, what sin a person is guilty of deserving shunning for putting in their letter of disassociation. If the biblical stance to shun a person is due to their sinful lifestyle, then you damn well have an explanation to what sin he is guilty of deserving shunning. They will say that he is actively shunning the congregation. So you are acknowledging that shunning in itself is a bad thing. Witnesses will not be able to answer this without implicating themselves to the evils of shunning.

Great discussion, i personally believe, that if anyone wake up, and go back, didn't really wake up, thru research, examining the scriptures carefully, see how they added to, take out, cherry pick, and twist scriptures to their own destruction, and found christ, by sanctifying him in your heart as lord, and choose to follow christ, instead of the governing body, he wouldn't have ever been able to go back.

It's sad that the GB and elders don't take a cue from the Bible in the sags of the son who wandered away from his father's home, libed contrary to how he was raised and even squamdered his inheritance. Yet his father never turned his back on his son. He forgave him and welcomed him back with loving arms, even spreading a lavish feast honoring his return. That was the prototype. In the reality, with the GB and elders, they arr unforgiving and crass despite the fact that, as a group, ExJWs did not wander away, squandering anything or engaging in wrongdoing or dedpicable acts. Their "crime'? They dif not agree with the misapplication of scripture, the harsh rules, the CSA cases, the policy of the shunning prsvtivrs and destruction of the family unit. And instead of being humble and forgiving; instead of being understanding and changing their dogmatic rules and policies, the GB and elders choose to lie on them, call them evil and other wivked names and even wish death upon them as apostates. They give the remaining sheep the impression that the apostates are evil and haters and now enemies of Jehovah whom he will destroy at Armageddon. This fear factor is to frighten others from leaving. Now who are the REAL haters here? They remind me of Pharaoh with the Hebrews. They set up cruel taskmasters over the Hebrew slaves to inflict them (JWs do it with the tongue of condemnation). The reason was because they relied on the FREE LABOR of the slaves just like the GB! According to Pharaoh, "Who will build our cities if we let the Hebrews go?!". Who will build more kingdom halls and finish the work on our new media center? Who will do all the legwork of peddling all that literature if we let the slaves...i mean...witnesses go? Is their selfish and demonic reasoning. How evil.

My whole thing with that scripture on do not lean upon your own understanding, it continues on saying for all your ways take notice of him and he himself will make your paths straight… which they don’t live by at all.. in all our ways, so by all the senses take notice of him.. but they don’t want you to do that.. and then there’s another scripture that states to not trust your heart, for it is treacherous, soooooo can’t lean upon my brain; can’t trust my heart, so then what the hell am I supposed to do?.. and then I’m also like, ok if we apply scriptures, if leaning upon our own understanding my whole thing is, who’s understanding are you leaning on?!… (the governing body) but we aren’t supposed to lean upon our own understanding, so why are they leaning on theirs? What makes theirs so important, because theirs have changed so many times… I will say I have taken in all my ways to acknowledge him, and it still holds true compared to theirs. Theirs keep changing… mine has not. 🤷🏻‍♂️ sorry for my rant and 2 cents.

The part about seeing those videos at the conventions and telling yourself it was all truth even though it didn't make sense😅. That was me with the charismatic side of Christianity, pentecostal! Wasn't until I looked at something they said not to look at, that I was able to know the greatness of the true gospel. #reformedchristian thanks for yalls video, they've been interesting. I'm an old white woman who teaches adults. Five or six years ago, one of my students said he was going to teach me some of the modern lingo. Cap and No Cap is what he taught me. I am so thankful to him because I understood the "Truth/Cap" part at the end of the video. Great video, as always. Thank you both for what you do for the world.

My Daughter and Ex-Wife felt the same way about me as my Ex-Wife took away my Daughter from me when we got Divorced and took our Daughter away from me at the age of 7, from California to Georgia in 1995, even though I had Visitation Rights in Los Angeles , Calif. which is Mandated in our Divorce and she still expected me to Pay for Child Support. When she got Pregnant I didn't learn about it until 2 and 1/2 Months later in our Marriage in which I woke up and noticed that her Breasts were Enlarged. After our Divorce. So, I did research as to the date of our Daughter's Birth and came to realize that based on the 9 Months of Pregnancy Period and Date of Birth, I realize that she was Pregnant 2.5 Months earlier of my Discovery of her Pregnancy. She played me with the Marriage and the pregnancy with our Daughter. I was livid in anger as I was fooled and played by her.

I truly understand everything y'all are saying, I am 45 and I excepted Jesus in my life at 16 and when I told my family I accepted Jesus they outcasted me from the family and told other individuals I was the devil, so I know they are a cult and did not originally accept Jesus as the Messiah and Son of the Living God, majority of people I know are affiliated with this organization and I feel sorry for them because according to the scriptures whosoever is not written in tge book of life shall be cast into the Lake of Fire......they have destroyed and continue to destroy household's and families because of their propaganda......it's sad they are they way they are and they look for people who don't know God thru his Son Yeshua the Christ.......

I dont have a community. I remember how often I was with the „sisters“ for doctors appointment and now I am so lost. But back then, I remembered how often I drive regularly other to the convergations and then it happens I couldnt drive, nobody was there for my to drive! I thought we were a community? I thought you hve space in the car? Take the bus in high heels, when its rainy outside. Yeh. Thats how they treated me! So I asked so many of them. Then a non baptised brother agreed to drive me, and it was AGAIN a problem for them, because we where alone in the car. I was thinking, yeha complain can everybody from you but helped did me a non baptised. He was more brotherly to me, than everybody who was so egoistic.

Glad I stumbled on your channel so glad the 2 of escaped the Jokehovahs...I left in 2013 my then wife,I basically gave her an ultimatum either come with me or stay here with this insane religion she made her choice and I left her there holding the bag so to speak... Shunning is not love. Just because im not a witness doesnt mean im evil and an enemy of Jehovah. I love all people. We are born in Gods image, some choose to become REAL Enemies of God. Hey y’all!!!! Just wondering do you guys recognize the Jehovahs Witness religion as a cult now? I’m new here so excuse me if this is already answered. Just point me in the right direction.

I've only watched 2 of your videos but ya'll are spot on. I've been faded for almost 20 years and still struggle with making friends. I was born in, third generation, and my dad was an elder. Growing up my mother was VERY judgemental of others including friends I made within the org. This has stuck with me and makes it hard for me to make friends because I tend to push people away the moment I get a weird vibe. Have you guys struggled with this? Any advice on getting rid of that negative mentality?

I was going through a rough period iny life and remember going to my family member who is married to a JW he is not, and was treated worse than dirt ,He once told me I would never enter his home,any way I know understand they did not let me in there home for being bad his wife wanted everything for her son. Terrible people

What are your beliefs now? Can you do a video of what you have come to find what was twisted in Jw and what you found what is true in the bible?

Belief is not a choice, we are raised in it and we then get to be convinced it is true. This is how it is, if one grew up in Vietnam you are lightly to become a Bhuddist, a Catholic, a Caidasm if raised in household that belongs to these beliefs. If you are born in Yemen you are likely to be born in Shia Islam, Sunni Islam or Zaydi Islam than to become a Christian or be in Judaism. I am not convinced that God exist, this does not mean that I claim to know that God does not exist, therefore I do not believe, or I am no longer convinced that religions have the truth. Those who believe did not choose to, they were brought up in their religion and became convince that it is true, thus they believe.

Even when we don’t serve God,he still loves us. They are more like a controlling group to me.

Jesus demonstrated that he was a faithful and true witness of Jehovah God. His genuine disciples today must be the same kind of witnesses, Jehovah's.

You're lucky most of your family has dropped out of the JWs. Most of mine will never leave and never stop giving me bullshit... Recently one of the only kind/semi-accepting uncles I had died and I was the only one crying at his funeral. Everyone there was acting like robots asking me why I was crying, even tho I was trying to be quiet and cry to myself, not bawling trying to get attention. I told them to leave me alone and let me grieve. They tried to make a stupid preachy speech out of it but I refused to let them. My uncle's fancy funeral charcuterie was too good for those insensitive aholes...
