2. Barefeet, earthing & sunlight
3. Cold water immersion
4. Walked-for wild foods
5. Sleeping, nose-breathing & circadian rhythm
6. Fasting & listening to Country
7. Home-grown food & kinship with soil
8. Fermented foods & honouring death & decay
9. Sauna to cook out winter toxins
10. Meaning making as creatures of place

For me, since I moved out of London UK over ten years ago to the mountains in central Italy, I do the following: 1- grow my food as much as possible, as I live alone....also I keep chickens and two goats for milk.. 2- forage as much as possible 3- ferment almost everything..two years ago I salt fermented 5 kilos of fresh sardines and I'm still eating them..i use them in my kimchi instead of the highly processed fish sauce, etc. 4- prayer. I'm a Sufi Muslim and I do pray every day, also fast when I can. But my days are constant humming of prayers, they keep me calm, serene and joyful, almost giggling from delight. 5- I self- taught myself about herbal medicine, so i make all my herbal oils, tinctures, vinegar..also harvest wild plants and sometimes save them by replanting them in a safe spot or in my plot, like dandelion, Mullen, plantain, etc. 6- I got bed very early and get up early without alarm. 7- I don't over heat my small house in winter...I just have a wood stove, no central heating, etc..and when it's snowing hard outside and freezing cold I just sit / sleep in front of it. Having a cold house made me very resilient to cold, I don't feel cold as I used to be when was living in London, despite it's much colder here! 7- as i don't have a washing machine or anything electrical in my house (the last thing to get rid off was the electricity..I have a tiny solar panel to charge my phone only, they can't charge anything else.)...so doing everything by hand taught me patience and I use it as a way to reflect and mediate. 8- exercises...this is a new thing but since I started to do just few minutes in the morning of high intensity exercises, I feel much stronger and better. 9- always searching for natural methods to heal myself..the last thing I started doing is using The Bates method to get rid of my prescription glasses...I'm very short sighted and sadly started wearing glasses over 35 years ago when I was 11 years old...and I'm delighted and proud to say that for the first time in 35 years I haven't worn my glass since February! I just can't believe it and my eyesight is getting better and better.. sadly lots of people are sceptical of my lifestyle here and just don't believe me about the benefits of fermented foods cetc...but seeing me without glasses for the first time was a bit of a shock and some started to believe me..😊 10- I'm trying to create a community of like-minded people. ...it's very very hard but I'm still hopeful...though I'm fine with the love I get from my animals, my family of four-legged and two-legged creatures...peace, love and healing to all. Love you guys and I wish I live near you.🥰💚😍

@@thelandofmint Wow, that's pretty epic. Do you not have/need a refrigerator? Is there any one around you up there? I'm also living alone in the mountains off grid, unfortunately there's no alternative community here and with high bushfire risk in summer, people are generally reluctant to live out here.

@@carl8568 hi Carl, no I don't have a fridge..in winter I keep my perishable food outside my window, I made kind of box to keep them safe...in summer I keep everything on my kitchen floor, I don't have a counter in my tiny kitchen...I've learnt from the Chinese customs ( I did a degree in the Chinese language when was living in London🙂) that keeping food, especially ferments on the ground would keep them fresh and in a perfect condition for months and hands down it works like a dream..for the last 4 years summers have been very hot but still my ferments keep well sitting on my cool kitchen floor...and when I cook a stew or soup, I leave the pot on the floor and it stays fresh for a couple of days, in winter a bit longer..I also turn butter into ghee which doesn't need a fridge and stays ok for a year or 2!! If I need to keep a fresh butter, I put it in my ceramic butter crock..you can get one online, it's amazing...as for meat, I salt and dry it in the sun in summer, then rinse it and fry it in beef tallow, then pack it in a terracotta pot, pour the fat on top, and that seals it and keep in well for a year..when I need to cook with it , I just scrape the fat off and take some pieces of meat, then cover it again...I use the fat to cook with, as I don't use any vegetable/seed oils ( they are toxic to humans, apart from olive oil which should never be heated, it must be eaten raw and has to he from a trusted source as almost all the olive oils in the marketis not real!)...the terracotta pot sits on my floor too. I've learnt this from the Bedouins of North Africa.. yes, creating a community is very hard but never say never. All the best to you Carl😊🤞🤗

Love this. I'm probably doing half of these and loving growing fruit, veg, berries. Even veg in pots to maximise space.

Blessings to you both. Herbs are my medicine along with what I call "quiet time". Many days in my home by myself, pottering around, sitting in the sun, reading, cooking yummy food, watching all the animals, listening to the universe, crafting, making and just being. Learning to be "enough" as a woman.

Walking. It's a way to get out in the world and notice what is happening. It is beneficial for physical and mental fitness, requiring very little equipment with no monetary cost.

Thank you for sharing, love from Sweden and India atm 🙏🏽❤️ I live in the city but try to connect to nature, the ocean or forest several days a week. If only walking at the cementary during the day barefoot. 1. Connection to nature. Its through you guys and many many docs I learned how the cruel capitalist economy use us humans, the animals and mother earth as a product to use and abuse. I try to get everything organic and local (if possible). Everything counts! For the Earth, animals, humans and our childrens future. Yes it cost more but what are the cost of industrialised toxic food put into our soil and bodies? 2. Organic food, household products, clothes, everything if possible. We try not to buy anything and if we have to then we look for secondhand. Everything is already made in countless amounts. People are throwing away or selling totally new products. Consumerism and lots of material belongs creates toxins and weight. We need time and space not things

So much of these natural ways of behaviour and living have come to me by instinct since my teens (I'm now 58). It certainly was not at all part of my suburban upbringing but thankfully I seem to have been born with, and maintained good natual instincts as to what is best for my body & soul. The way our ancestors all around the world lived for a thousand years or more. I am currently a permanent housesitter so always on the move into very different situations (no car) but I can still find ways to live as naturally & healthily as possible with very little money. All this is so important to bring back to future generations, thank you guys for all your work to that end 🙏

Wonderful video guys and great tips. Eating foods that are good for our but microbiome are so important. I'm really looking forward to switching out shop bought cows milk to our own raw goats milk in the next month or two. I feel like health wise it's going to be a huge advantage as coeliac's often become dairy intolerant. I'm hoping that having more easily digestable raw goats milk will help prevent that. We could do with widening the range of fermented foods we eat, and do with eating more bitter herbs. I confess I'm an utter wuss when it comes to cold bathing, though we have a beautiful creek with the most perfect spot for it. Perhaps of there was a sauna next to it I could be a bit braver! 😂 Little Elise saw your video and said ‘Hi!’ xx

Thank you for this beauty. After our site visit Wednesday I looked at the ground I occupy and how much of the paths are covered in 'brought in rocks'. My animals don't like it (they avoid the paths). My (usually tough) bare feet don't like it - there's something in that. Certainly it still 'grounds' but not the experience of your lush surrounds. So tomorrow I'm moving all the stones into the gully as part of the erosion project. But I will wear my hard shoes for 'working' thanks Woody, as I'm not careful enough yet to avoid punctures (haha).
