I traveled to Oaxaca City, Mexico for my first Spanish Immersion Retreat and this epic week rewrote my future (A must-watch before coming to Mexico)

I've been living in Mexico for 5 years, so I thought I had a pretty good handle on the Spanish language before going on this immersion retreat with ‪@SpanishandGo‬ but WOW my Spanish leveled up like crazy!
Beyond language learning, it was a life-altering experience. Hopefully, I captured that in this Oaxaca Mexico vlog!
Our week in Oaxaca City, Mexico was filled with:
Trying authentic Oaxacan food and drinks (Oaxacan chocolate, mezcal, tlayudas, mole, tejate, ice cream, street food, and more)
Learning about how Oaxacan chocolate is made in a hidden factory
Going to the maguey fields to learn the process of making mezcal and try it right next to the agave plants themselves
The engaging daily Spanish lessons
Beautiful Oaxacan architecture like the Templo de Santo Domingo and other historic buildings
Surprising cultural experiences like little parades called "calendas"

Sounds like a great idea and Spanish and Go seem like amazing people. I'm so freaking excited that we plan to take our RV and move to a town just outside of Oaxaca City for the whole summer. Right now we are in Patzcuaro for the summer and perhaps through Dia de los Muertos. I think we've nailed some choice spots with only 7 months in Mexico under our belts, you think? I'm confused ; are you saying you live in Mexico but you're trying to learn Spanish ? Just try to see if locally there is a Spanish Speaking Club in your area that meets up in person and if you can't be there in person see if they can do it on Zoom . Maybe even think about hiring someone to meet you a couple times a week to just speak to you in Spanish and give you some lessons ... maybe a high school or college student who doesn't have much money or someone who could really benefit from you paying them cash to help you with the language ... ? And if money is an issue maybe just try to meet some people who speak fluent Spanish who want to meet and have coffee or tea but tell them you want to speak as much Mexican as possible and not English ?

@@gloscloset01 I just completed my canje here in Mexico this week so now have the actual visa card. I will not know how it is flying in until I come back in.a couple of months. You did complete your visa here, right? Because what we get in the US at the Mexican consulates is only part of the process- and then once approved in the US you have 180 days to complete it in Mexico. I will try to remember to post here about my experience coming back. I Have been told to now go into the nationals line not the tourist line.

It really is!! As for the price, it varies depending on the city but I think it’s extremely reasonable for everything that’s included. They paid for all the meals, tours, drinks, transportation, snacks, etc and even gave unexpected gifts throughout the week. Also the hotel and Spanish classes are included.

Y'all, I'm so very happy Maddie is getting 6K+ likes. I secretly was very upset to see her ex get more views and likes at the beginning. I know I know, don't come for me about this, I'm just telling how I felt. Your videos just keep getting better and better! I have always loved your style and it's only gotten better! I have been wanting to go to Oaxaca for some time, since the Wedding of my nephew... anyways the Spanish Immersion retreat is a wonderful idea! I have gotten much better at comprehension the past few visits to Mexico and also attending Spanish events here in the states... . Tejate has Mamey seeds???? WHAT! I was so happy that Mamey was in season when I was in Puebla last month... Yummy fruit! I bought some Cocoa nibs when I was in Zacateca and brought them home, NOW after watching your video I have some ideas what to do with them... recipes to make! So fun... Gracias !!!!

Loved this video! Although I speak Spanish I would love to try one of these retreats. I speak Spanish from Spain which is different in the use of many words and also the the use of vosotros. Been to Oaxaca many times over the years but would consider going back for this retreat and of course the food!!! The last time we went which was during COVID there were a lot more homeless and crime seemed to be on the rise. Did you notice that when your were there recently?

Maddie, you have reminded me of why I love Oaxaca so much. Of all the places thatvI have visited in 😮Mexico so far; it is my favourite. The food, culture, archaeology, art, creativity, weaving, embroidery... make Oaxaca and the surrounding villages of the valley, truly special. Thank you for a great video. Also your last one in the little village, with its celebrations, was superb. I love your enthusiasm.

What a nice video. I totally got distracted from my day. About your spanish speaking learning. This is what I try but don't succeed and will not give up. To sound more experienced in spanish speaking I try to speak a notch faster. It's not quite the accent that people notice and suddenly can tell you're a gabacha it's actually the speed in which you speak it. English is slower than spanish. Hope you can try that. In your old videos it seemed like you were speaking it faster. Good luck.

Love this! Thanks for letting us know about this opportunity! I signed up to receive their newsletters. I’d love to do this sometime next year. I already have plans to visit MX at the end of this year but I’m definitely open to this in the future.
