I spent a week in small-town Oaxaca, Mexico for a local cultural celebration no foreigner has experienced (**this is a side of Mexico they don't want you to see**)
❁❁Subscribe to my channel: www.youtube.co...
Come with me to experience this AMAZING week of Oaxacan festivities in a small town you've probably never heard of called Santa Maria Mixtequilla. The reason I say that is because NO ONE has ever made a vlog of this place before.
One of my good friends Ivett's family is from this small town and she invited me to come here and get the local's perspective on this incredible cultural experience. Every year the people of Santa Maria Mixtequilla throw a huge festival-like celebration they call "Fiestas patronales de la Virgin Santa Catalina de Siena."
This Mexico vlog includes:
Multiple elaborate parades filled with music, candy-throwing, and townspeople dressed in traditional Oaxacan clothing
A behind-the-scenes look at Oaxacan food is made
Adorable animals like pollito, my adopted chickadee
A look at the beautiful clothing worn in this region (huipiles and enaguas) and how women do their hair and makeup
Crazy pyrotechnics called toritos and the castillo
The 5-hour expedition for "forest flowers"
One of my favorite parts called the "fruit-throwing parade" where the royal procession and others in town throw thousands of items into the street for the spectators
And MORE!
Let me know in a comment what you think of this festival. Would you like to see more videos like this?

The music. The colorful costumes. Those crazy bulls they set on fire. What an incredible engineering feat that last explosion of fire and the fireworks was. You looked amazing in all those traditional dresses. Glad that your hair recovered. This video says more about how wonderful the Mexican people are than any other. Their faith. Their love of family. Their culture. Their music. Their passion. Their hospitality. Their kindness. Their values. All unbeatable in any other country. In my two years living in Mexico I never saw anything as wonderful as this. I miss Mexico every single day and wish I could come back. Love ya! Thank you Maddie for vlogging a small town Mexican fiesta!!! I can't wait to go to my town's fiesta this year at the end of August. Toritos have always been my favorite and not so favorite part of las fiestas 🤣🤣 I want to try and record a nice video when I go this time around. You are most welcome to come if you would like ☺

More ! More! MORE! Absolutley loved it and reminded me of a tiny facsimile they had back in Brighton, Colorado. Got to watch my niece wear the hair and flowers and finery. Throw fruit candy at us in the Parade too! Then dancing and singing into the night. It was only one day, but we had a blast. I see you did too, and so glad you have such wonderful friends who care for you like family.

I absolutely loved watching this Maddie. My dad is also from a little town called Tamazulapam del Progreso in Oaxaca. But it was so fun watching your adventures in these other parts of Oaxaca I never knew existed. I love your enthusiasm so much too! I hope you recovered well after all that partying 😂

Your best video capturing the authentic culture of Mexico. These special celebrations happen all over and are such a joy to witness. I know most people enjoy tourist activities but for me, life in Mexico is all about local flavor and personal experience like this.

Awesome video, you look really happy here 🌺 I wonder how long they've been doing these celebrations and no one ever filmed it. Now they are able to watch it and show it to their kids etc. They must be so happy to be able to see the video after. You gave them a real gift ❤

Wow!! I'm running the Guiengola archaeological project. It was so rewarding to see you walking through the ancient city!! These ruins are famous as this was the fortress where Cocijopii fought and defeated the Aztecs. Mixtecs helped with troops during this battle and were rewarded with the lands where Mixtequilla is now.
