I'm so scared of being homeless because I only have one leg now I am Dan I live in Batavia New York I dared to ask my landlord to fix the front porch he's the head of the Republican GOP he signs my ballot because I do absentee. So I seriously doubt I'm going to win in court even though there's no way I should lose with the new landlord laws in New York I'm screwed. The amount they allow me to pay is 650 nothing 880 includes everything I've been looking since February. And finally I found one in Batavia New York cuz I even looked in Rochester New York. And then the lady told me while you got to have credit I go well I've been working on it and I have credit then she says get this I don't make enough money they accept Section 8 but I don't make enough money I thought if you make no money you can still be on it but you can't make too much money. I've been homeless I've lived where I am for 16 years. Every place that I looked at that is Section 8 approved is not fit for habitation. I was attacked in Rochester for taking a picture of the slum building. 300 Genesee Street it doesn't look like the picture on the internet trust me. It's full of drugs and gang activity I know exactly what it's like to live in a tent. Our government doesn't care about the homeless not Republicans Or democrats they could care less they got a home. I noticed you get quite angry when you're speaking about homelessness I was thinking about it makes me angry too I consider myself a victim a victim of a slumlord and they're going to rent this out right away Section 8 they're making my two bedroom into a three bedroom they do not help the tenants no one actually helps you find an apartment they give you a list of apartments that are taken it's ridiculous I've been through hell and I can't find a place to live
@LetArtsLive
@LetArtsLive Месяц назад
Really if they gave me a ticket I would not pay it I cannot believe you can smoke outside anywhere far as I know can't smoke in your tent where is this supposably they have a place in Rochester where people can stay and camp but I don't know. I like going camping but I don't want to live out there and especially when it's really hot in New York cuz I can't breathe. People need to start doing something about homeless people you should not punish them for being homeless but they are really makes me angry really my landlord got like $200,000 and he's just greedy so he wants more money every landlord is greedy they need to cap the rents how can people afford the ridiculous amounts it's like price gouging they let them do it it's ridiculous there isn't even any Section 8 giving out any more if I lose mine I will never get it back ever

But still isolated and treated like a social lepar. Society is for the most part in to virtue signalling. They like to think theyre compassionate and understanding of mental illness and physical disability but it never applies to the people they come across living with those struggles. There's some really smart kind hearted people that end up homeless for a bit....I was "homeless" with two kids twenty years ago. At least that's what the kids school classified us as. It was due to domestic violence and if I didn't leave my home that night they would have taken my kids from me and called it neglect! Thank god I had a friend to stay with for 3 months and then went to family for another 3 months while I was saving the money to get an apartment and all new furniture. But I can't imagine with inflation these days what I would do if I was in that situation again.

I am all for supporting people who are unhoused. Having said that, parks are intended to be for everyone. As an Oregonian, there are some parks that get so over populated with people that they start fighting over spots, the whole area becomes a hazard, and it can become unsafe. It’s a rough situation and I don’t think the answer is making homelessness illegal but at the same time, public parks aren’t the answer either.

During my stay, there was a Rumor that Donations made by people and orgs of FOOD, SOFT DRINKS, and SUPPLIES coming in the Front Door were quietly and Sneakily being taken out the BACK Door and put into the cars of staff that were employed at the shelter. Therefore, the Veterans very Rarely received ANY of those donations.

Is the government really having a debate about criminalizing homelessness, a problem the government is largely responsible for? Government providing safety nets leads to people making a sequence poor and risky decisions that increase the likelihood of homelessness. There are exceptions to the rule but the vast majority of homeless would be in this category. If a few things go south for me I could be homeless because of a series of poor decisions I made in the past. Working 60-80 hours per week for years now to try and make sure things do not fall apart. Government is not likely capable of providing a solution for problems they cause. By the end of 2025, Government will be paying $2 TRILLION dollars in interest payments on an annual basis for the national debt. Their tax revenue is $4.44T as of 2023 and declining. They will be in no position to provide much of a solution even if they could spend the money to do so. We know there will be another monetary reset likely by 2026 imo (1933 & 1971) and historically they do not benefit the peasants. Darren looks like he can keep it together appearing normal for long enough to get some kind of job. He does a good job covering up whatever mental illness he says he has.

I can only say this because my son is on the spectrum. A 10 minute interview is a lot different than an 8 hour shift. He also had the majority of his spine fused together at the age of 16 due to Sherman’s kyphosis. In addition, He is basically missing one of his thumbs . Aside from these things you would see a handsome well spoken 30-year-old, but his reality is quite different than first appearances.

A few years ago my states largest city spent multiple tens of millions of taxpayer dollars building a "tiny home village" for vagrants. The place has remained almost entirely empty since day one, yet the sidewalks & alleys surrounding it are littered with vagrant camps. When asked why they won't use it, the vagrants said "Too many rules" like no drug or alcohol use, they have to work towards obtaining a job, and so on. This same city offered $15/hr (cash) to vagrants for picking up litter, all transportation to/from sites & shelters, meals, snacks, water, etc. The first day of the program only a handful of people showed up, with a few walking off after a few hours, and none returning the next day. This went on for a few weeks until eventually no one showed up and they abandoned the program. When asked why they all said the same thing, that it was easier to just panhandle and they could make far more money in less time. The city has a massive shortage of transit bus drivers, more than 100 open positions. They offered paid training at $20/hr which included a full CDL at the end of the training, $22/hr once on a route, full muni-benefits including insurance, pension, etc. They could not fill the positions... people were showing up late, leaving early, missing days, disrupting the classes, etc, etc. They have since bumped the training to $22/hr and then $25/hr once graduated and on a route. So far over a year later they are still short more than 100 open positions and have had to cut service as a result. But yea... These people are willing to work 🤣

How is someone who has to move their tent and belongings every 3 days supposed to hold a job?! And struggle to get water and food makes it harder to get a job. Then when you have a job, the rents and income requirements are too high. How many rich CEOs take long lunches and do expensive drugs or drink? Too much blame placed on homeless people. The real problem is the real estate-connected politicians. Every politician should be required to live homeless for a year.

I was lucky, born male and white in America in the 50’s. It hurts to see folks so knocked down they can’t get up. I didn’t say that. People who end up outside need support to get off the streets and to start healing from the layers of trauma. Many will get a job, but it’s not realistic or practical to think a homeless person can go from streets to employment. Plus, many are not hire able. I’m 63. When I was laid off at 54, no one would hire me. Ageism is real. Speaking of real, soon, robots will replace humans for most every job. What then? Keep in mind as a taxpayer, you pay huge money for each person outside. Housing ends homelessness and saves taxpayer money

Didn’t need to pander for a thing, wasn’t being a burden to anyone, and wasn’t tweaking or ODing in the public parks on children’s baseball game days. @MoldyBones27 I actually agree. I've been very fortunate to make my living in the brush by pulling up my own boot straps as an independent miner. It has been very good to me, but what it's taught me most is that our own mentality matters. Unfortunately, it's not for everyone, especially if the world has beaten us down. I find that maintaining a positive mental attitude and expecting good things to come to us is most of life's real struggle and the difference between success and failure.

As a former homeless man for 14 years I understand some of the challenges homeless people face, but I'm wondering why you call the Christian teachings offered by our mission "religious programming", When we are free to accept or reject whatever beliefs people share with us?
@InvisiblePeople
@InvisiblePeople Месяц назад
Free to accept? That’s how it should be. Let’s say you’re hungry and cold from sleeping outside. You’re vulnerable. The only choice is to go into a mission that forces Bible study twice a day plus mandatory church services and what they call Work therapy, which is really just a modern term for slave labor. Do you really have a choice because you’re hungry and cold? It’s not Christian to withhold basic needs from vulnerable people to into religious programming. I worked as chief marketing officer for one of the largest rescue missions in the country. We had 150 shelter beds along with over 200 apartments. we had a very large kitchen and cafeteria offering three free meal services every day. People could eat an access shelter beds absolutely free. There was no religious programming attached. We offered church services and we had a full-time chaplain on staff. If somebody wanted to, they can attend church services or Bible studies, but we never withhold basic needs like food and shelter. Jesus said to help the least of these. To help the poor of the hurting and the vulnerable. That is exactly what we should do is Christians. We should extend unconditional love to help people. The Grants Pass mission does is not Christian. Jesus would not withhold basic needs from someone for any reason. If someone was hungry, He would feed them - unconditionally. If someone needed shelter - He would provide a bed in a roof - unconditionally. That’s true love. Coercing vulnerable who may not actually be able to make a free choice because of how they are hurting, is wrong and it’s not Christian
@GrantsPassTVRepair
@GrantsPassTVRepair Месяц назад
@@InvisiblePeople I understand this aspect of your argument, but doesn't the structure of life require all of us to deal with situations we would rather not? In my 14 years of living in cars and vans, I never found it necessary to stay in a mission, but the program I voluntarily participated in, helped me to understand the value of learning how to deal with people and situations I disliked. and that was a major step in me discovering better options. I'm not saying the homeless need to stay at the mission in order to improve their lives, but after speaking to dozens of them, I'd say most of the homeless are their own worst enemy.
@InvisiblePeople
@InvisiblePeople Месяц назад
If someone went to go to a Bible study, that’s great. But preying off vulnerable people is wrong. Help them with shelter and food. Don’t force people into religious programming Just to be clear, the reason they (and others) do this is their fundraising is based off “winning the lost.” It’s why it’s hard for missions to change. They are scared of losing money. Withholding basic needs from people unless they go into religious programming is an outdated model that needs to stop. Grants Pass mission takes it to a level I have never seen before - it’s horrible - and it’s not Christian

The problem of homelessness can be corrected if people would just stop talking and making excuses why they are not able to help the homeless. If every bleeding heart that is complaining about how rough the homeless have it would just shut up and DO something. I don't care if you have a limited amount of space, bring a homeless person into your home. Give them a home. No excuses. If you have a landlord, raise money for motel rooms. Give up your luxuries and physically help a homeless person. Nothing but BS excuses. At age 18 my niece was hit by a repeat drunk driver and became a tetraplegic in an instant. No movement from the chest down, no hand movement, limited arm movement, pain each and every day. She worked her butt off to overcome the obstacles put in front of her, worked hard, put herself through law school, graduated with honors, and went on to earn herself a great job. She recently bought her first home, hasn't even turned 30 yet, and did it all from a wheelchair without taking a dime of taxpayer money. My wife and I have a dear friend with ataxic cerebral palsy. She lives in constant pain and uses a wheelchair most of the day, yet she somehow managed to get jobs and work her way through college. She has since started and ran her own business building it slowly over the years to the point where she has multiple employees and is quite successful, as well as create a non-profit where she connects disabled people with career mentors. In effect two careers one of which doesn't pay her a dime, yet she has managed to save enough to build an accessible home that fits her disability.
