LIFE IN SPAIN: GETTING SETTLED 

I am Spanish. A cultural shock for me was when I travelled to Dublin (my first ever overseas trip) and people were constantly saying sorry, sorry for sneezing, sorry for walking too close to me, sorry for crossing the street, sorry for coughing, I was so overwhelmed 😂 Then I got used to it and I went back to Spain and I was apologising for everything and everyone was asking me what was wrong with me 😂 Just cultural differences!

So glad you made it to Spain. So many questions. Is George working remote? When will you start working again? ❤

I’m trying to imagine the day to day culture shock your family is experiencing. What a great opportunity for your kids.

We went to Spain last year. We visited Barcelona, Sitges, Mallorca and Madrid and we fell in love with Madrid once we got off the train. I can’t wait for more of your Spain videos! You’ll figure out how to get around and all that and it definitely helps you speak Spanish already!

It's so nice seeing u settled. As far as the pizza bread goes we make that topping on pizza crust. It's a fresh tomato pizza. But it's baked Spanish n Italian pretty close. Enjoy

You should try local cafeterias for early breakfast, they open between 07 and 08 and offer a variaty of savoury and sweet stuff. In Spain locals get up pretty early

If your dryer takes 2-3 cycles to dry your clothes, I wonder if the vent needs to be cleaned out? That happened to us, our dryer would not dry, and we had lint PACKED inside, it took a professional to get it unclogged. It's also a fire hazard, you might want to check into that. I'm excited to see your new adventures in Spain !!

I would check the vent of the dryer if it is as slow as you have said. It may be clogged with a ton of lint. If it is not vented check the back by taking off the back cover and vacuume it out. Also, stick the hose down into the lint catcher location. Remember it is a fire hazard. I know some places (countries) do not allow venting.

I remember going to Spain as part of a high school trip back in 2010. The difference in culture surprised me and I was given advice on who to avoid such as gypsies and to fully say Coca Cola when I order the drink rather than just coke. I also noticed they dress more formal I would say because our group dressed very casual and when we passed by 2 men talking one time they paused and just by what we were wearing they said, “American women.” That is something that stayed in my mind. We went to Madrid and Barcelona and I fell in love with Barcelona ❤️ I hope to go back one day.

I noticed that you mentioned taking the bus.Would you say that that is the main form of transportation? Do a lot of people walk? My son went to Europe last month (Paris, London, Italy, Rome) and he mentioned that people do a lot of walking. Please continue to share more with us! I have a few questions for you: When do the kids start school, are they on summer break? Are there any large grocery stores like Costco or other cheaper food markets? Envy! !!! You have a El Cortes Ingles ...within walking distance! I LOVE that store; everything there is definitely a tick upward in the costs €€€ but they HAVE everything! Ours in Coimbra, Portugal is a half hour away and it is only the grocery store, so I shop at Continente and Pingo Doce, as it is just myself. Spain is SO different than Portugal, the streets are flatter (Coimbra -- 3/4 of the city is uphill over cobblestones :-( and Spain's big cities just radiate so much more bustle, sophistication and "city vibe" than in Portugal. I would live in A Coruna in a heartbeat. However, VISA D7 (retirement) was easier to get in Portugal than Spain, so here I am and there you are! WE NEED A HOUSE TOUR!

Hola. En Mercadona venden unos tarros de tomate que son maravilla para hacerte el pan del desayuno en casa. Lo tuestas y despues pones tomate, aceite y sal y riquisimo. Estan en seccion frio ( donde ensaladas, guacamole, etc). Un super cambio de vida pero a mejor seguro. Bienvenidos.

I can’t wait to see all your videos of your new life in Spain. We lived in Southern Spain for 3 years and it is a complete cloture shock. But I envy you, I would move back today if I could but we have a long 6 year wait until my husband retires. Pan con tomato is the best!!! One of the hardest things to get used to is the eating times so late compared to the US, 8 pm for dinner we found was early especially if eating out .
