This video might give you false impression that the Remaster is worth buying. It isn't! I bought so you don't have to copy my big mistake. They introduced so many technical problems that is beyond believe. Where original game has NONE. So many broken scenes where Chloe is a talking zombie, many scenes are overly darkened, others overly brighten. BTS Chapter 3 is especially broken. Poor optimization on XSX especially BTS.
I like how the original the eyes of characters are more "tired" looking, darker, and smaller than the remastered I feel it adds to the bleak/melancholy vibe of the story
yeah, max always had that beaten up college student look to her bc her eyes always looked tired and i liked that. kinda upset that they changed it, that old look fit her character better I think
I have to disagree. The one thing turning me away from LIS were it’s bad graphics. I recently found out about the original via True Colors, and when looking at the original I truly thought that it was made in 2009. The eyes were super off putting and the redness around everyone’s eyes is just kind of gross.
Lighting issues aside, you can tell how much more emotion the facial mocap adds. Even in the trailer, Chloe's "Max, get in!" line is more direct, with Chloe actually looking at Max instead of in her general direction. And giving Max visible surprise at her powers and laughter when Chloe splashes her is refreshing. I will say I'm a little iffy on some of the textures though - like imperfections in the skin are buffed out more than they are refined.
i’m assuming that they’re still working on lighting and textures. i think that’s what they would do last. animations and mocap definitely took up a lot of the production time.
Yeah, I noticed! And it’s sad because it looks so cute. . . But overall, the game still looks amazing. The hair, expressions, some objects look way better. . . it looks great, honestly!
max doesn’t look like max in the remastered. she’s the only one that looks weirdly different. that must be her long lost twin that she switched places with before returning to arcadia bay
@@C-Jay7 On the contrary, In reality, he's tiny braincells can't even comprehend the quarter of the procedure. XD Only reason he says this, is because he want's to avoid his post LIS-syndrome and not to play the game again.
Kinda sad that the trailer had some lighting issues. Because a lot of remastering looks really good. I especially like Max’s awkward smile when Chloe turned on the music.
don’t worry, i’m sure it’s an earlier build of the game using footage captured mid-development. otherwise it wouldn’t make sense why the screenshots are better.
@@amit-ue6gd This comment looks like something I would write. Goes to show that I saw this comment and liked how you wrote it with the "Don't worry". Sorry for stealing your ideas but it matches me. But I agree still it's Probably from an older build.
one thing I notice here is they've changed max's eyelid shape, before her eyes were deep set which gave her hooded eyes and with the new expressions she does open her eyes more in surprise yes but it seems they just changed her facial features instead of refining what she had. new max doesn't really resonate with my memories of OG max without those furrowed eyes. I'm still looking forward to seeing people play this but I probably wont buy it myself, see you guys on twitch!
At 1:14 you can tell the eyes are the same shape, it just doesn't look like her bc her freckles are almost invisible and she has pale ass lips for some reason fjfjdj
I’ll be honest, some elements of the remaster do bother me, but the lip sync and emotions are a lot better. I don’t know if it’s just me but the new eyes and face textures are a bit off. Of course, the emotions and the ability to actually see what the characters feel is a big improvement
From the speculation I’ve read, the footage in the trailer is from earlier builds of the remasters. If you look at the new screenshots, they’re noticeably better, particularly Rachel sitting inside the truck as you can compare the image and trailer side by side.
Oddly enough, even though I haven’t played the remastered version, my memories of life is strange had always played with very high quality of graphic detail compared with how it actually was.
yeah that happens a lot with old games, at the time we were like "omg the quality is amazing" but then technology advances and it's not so amazing anymore... anyways, i remember it looked great when it came out
@@vaneabarca I think it also might be because of how immersed we are in the game so our brain kinda just "fills in the gap" for those memories to match how the experience felt at the time
@@vaneabarcaThat’s how it was for me for San Andreas. I used to play it as a kid and a few years ago, I went to play it again, but on my new PC and was so surprised about how low quality it looked.
The original is very nostalgic yes, but the remastered shows WAY more emotion in their facial expressions which, I can only imagine will make it better.
That’s strange in the videos I’ve seen the characters are very robotic and lifeless. Idk. I just liked the original. Don’t know why they have to mess with perfection.
For me, the original nails the overall aesthetic. Yeah, there was jankiness with regards to lipsyncing and other things, but it made up for that with artistic style and unique presentation. In certain scenes, the remastered version really delivers with facial animations being more emotive, and expressive, but the artistic style has been replaced with something that tries to look more... realistic. And again, while certain parts of the game are elevated, the loss of the watercolor look, as well as the handcrafted presentation... it just disappoints me greatly. That's also not to mention the unpolished nature of the remaster, with audio bugs, and certain things that seem worse compared to the original, like environmental lighting. It seems like the lightmaps and shadowmaps that they used for the remaster just seem less..detailed. The look of the lighting on the characters might look better but if you're paying attention, the environments just seem half-assed and extremely unpolished, and once you see that... it's extremely noticeable and disappointing. I don't mind supporting the developers at Deck Nine/Dontnod but... had I not purchased the original on sale on a lark years ago, I would have refunded my remastered purchase. It doesn't feel like a remaster with additions and improvements. To me, it feels like they took a look at certain iconic scenes and elevated them, but really half-assed the rest of the game. What would've been better is a... Director's Cut or a Definitive Edition with the improved facial animations and scene touches, combined with the original presentation. To label it as a "remaster" is just.. insulting, and it hurts me to say as much.
@@Brswing I agree with this completely. This is basically what I wanted to say 😅 I did not have the language for it. And I haven’t played it only the original. One of these days I’m taking a month off and playing the heck out of it.
Boss - We need something new to add to this game Janitor - How about we give everyone anime sized eyes despite this not being an anime Game Designer - What? Boss - Janitor, who’s name I forgot you’re a god damn genius 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Apparently they fixed it with some updated screenshots! The trailer that came out of the remastered version is from a version from years ago that wasn't complete yet, so I'm sure the bugs like eyes being too clear or a little unrealistic/weird have been fixed!
@@ajbratley9082 Yeah but look at his teeth if he in the original version scratches Max's face in that scene this time he is gonna bite her cheeks off (that sounds bad)
There are moments where the remastered is worse than the og. I hope they'll fix . Edit: when I first wrote this comment I didnt have the time or the brain to elaborate, but some people in the comments think that I think that the remastered is worse that the og. In my og comment I meant that in *some* places the remastered feels worse for me than the og. So to clear the air let me tell you something that did improve: -the hair moves now! And it moves really well. -Ambers face is super defined compared to the og. -the bra strap on Chloe is actually round -face expressions✨ -the colors are richer and deeper -some of the lighting improved -the face's are more detailed -the tears are really visible, and I like it But in some scenes I still prefer the og lighting, because it feels more realistic to me. Like in: 0:50 The og stage scene looks more realistic to me 0:44 Chloe's face looks flat in the remastered version, it has barely any shadows on it. 0:56 I like more how the og looks in that scene and I explained it below. So in short for me the remastered still lacking, but it ain't worse. It just needs a little push...you know?
@@Ricardo29j Well of course they look good because it's on their website. I have no doubt that the dev's will do a good job but the remastered is still lacking. For example in the og ver when max was standing under the rain she looks drenched in water while in the remastered ver she looks much more dry. Or when Chloe and Rachel were on the stage the lighting in the og looks much more realistic. It's the little things
@@Mr.misterr To be fair though realistically speaking people are not THAT reflective under rain. Especially the other materials like the straps and her shirt.
the warren and nathan glow up 😮💨 the upgrades overall are really nice, but it is true that the original just has a certain charm to it that made it great despite its faults. hopefully it’s not lost in this remaster
I don't know, this really feels like one step forward and two steps back to me. So much is lost, especially on Max's face, the sadness in her eyes is gone and what we have instead are overdone facial expressions that just don't fit her shy and reserved personality at all.
There's lots of things better in the remastered other than some small lighting and design things but god that colourful photo burning away transition at 0:19 is perfect, idk why they'd change that. I do love tho how the characters actually show so much more expression
This game doesn't need changing at all, it should remain the same forever, just to get more dated and become even more nostalgic everytime we rediscover it years down the line. Masterpiece of a game series, was absolutely moved beyond belief at the final farewell episode, almost like the game did a full circle but took a few detours along the way to answer our questions. Very special.
The only thing that bother me with the remastered version is Max's eyes. I feel more sadness in the original than in the trailer (maybe it will change)
You can still see them. I’m sure this is fixed once the final product is done. It’s delayed so it’s not like they won’t finish or make more touch ups. The freckles are still visible though
i think some things in the remastered version are pretty well done and looks more beautiful, for example the scene in the pool. at the first version max just looks such a sleep face and they're having fun so doesn't look any sense cuz they look like robots 💀 but the first version is so nostalgic and has such a good vibe, i luv it and honestly, i prefer the first one (P.S: look at chloe's eyes at 0:53 that's bizar man lmao and i've noticed that max's face is completely changed in the remastered, her mouth doesn't have any color and her chin looks different too)
I love the expression changes, but sometimes the high contrast or time travel blurring effects are good to have. It makes the game more artsy, so hopefully they keep a few of the more stylistic choices from the original
2:17 i didn’t expect such a change to Chloe in this scene. one of the best remastered parts of this game that i’ve seen. genuinely gave me chills at how expressive she looks.
For everyone disappointed by the trailer, don't worry. There's a theory going around that the trailer was made back in 2020 and was supposed to be presented at E3 that year, but it never happened. So people say Square Enix used this very old trailer for this year's E3. This would make sense, because when you look at the newly released screenshots, you can see they're way better than what they've showed in the trailer. Especially that new screenshot with Rachel.
The same happened with Steel Wool Studios with Fnaf Security Breach. So this theory is probably right. I think an bunch of games used early footage for their trailers. I think the final product will be much better than the one presented.
I saw the screenshot of Nathan and it genuinely looks photoshopped. I hope it's not but I gotta be honest. It'll be interesting to compare when the remaster launches.
@@free_h2o142 I'm pretty sure they can't be faked. In that Rachel screenshot, if you compare it to the trailer, you can see her earring is now in the correct orientation, and there are some wooden planks in the background that are gone. You can't do that with an image editing software, they had to go in the game engine, and change manually the stuff there, click on the planks, click delete, click on the earring, and rotate it. But for the sake of the argument, let's say these could've been faked with Photoshop, but at that point, wouldn't it be harder to fake them with that, than go into the engine directly and modify it there? And if they did modify those in the game editor, how is it fake? It's not, because it's in the game itself. I was really disappointed by this trailer, and I still am. But I'm confident in saying that it will look like it does in the screenshots. Deck Nine are working alongside Dontnod on this remaster, and Dontnod would never let their baby be ruined like this.
i like that facial expressions are improved but it seems like they got rid of that dreamy lightning which is a shame i think game feels a lot more magical with it. also i think issues with eyes is that they made them so much more lighter. they seem totally disconnected from how lightning and shadows work in each scene and irises remain extremely bright and glossy despite scene being dark.
Exactly. Especially in scenes where there is a lot of sun. The original had amazing contrast between the sunny day (sun - which is viewed as positive) and the story itself. It perfectly showed that not everything is bad. Now the whole world feels faded and colder.
theres a video about how the buffy the vampire slayer remasters basically ruin all the dramatic elements that filters added by just removing all color filters from all the scenes. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oZWNGq70Oyo.html
Honestly, this is the most confusing remaster I've seen yet. Lighting looks changed, but I don't know if it's improved. Any other changes are either too subtle, to rather subjective, like the freckle changes. I have no doubt that a lot of work went into this, but I think it was a bad idea, since the art direction causes things to not be that changeable.
this is a rlly great remaster, the emotions are so much more convincing and expressive. personally i think the bad poker faces in the original just adds to the nostalgia of it all.
The face is one of the greatest aspects when it comes to understanding someone. From their eyes, towards their posture, stilted words yes, but you can know so much of a person, whether that be the twinkle in their eyes of the sincerity of their smile. Truly one of life's greatest mysteries, but truly the truest, I can't wait to go through this adventure again.
I really like the animations so far for the remaster. The characters look much more expressive. As for the textures, it reminds me of those beutify (sorry if I spelled it wrong) mods people make for other games. I'm curious what the other characters look like especially Kate, Brooke, Joyce, David and Jefferson.
The remastered version gives me sims 3 vibes, most of all in max's surprise expresions. I tought that it was gonna be quite different but, personally, i prefer the old version. Btw, they should release the part two of this wonderful story, there was so much things that were left to see...
Knowing Square Enix, they'll wait until the new LiS isn't selling well to release another bundle, then a remaster of something (2 maybe?), then another bundle, and then maybe the rest of the story from 1. Before bundling it, remastering it, and then bundling it again. Oh and maybe a couple of mobile games somewhere in there for good measure, which add really important pieces of story you can't find anywhere else and are never ported to a console.
There’s some changes I’m on the fence about, like different lighting and how Cloe’s eyes are super blue in before the storm, but 1:15 kinda sold me on this, she looks so expressive and alive. If the whole remastered collection can have this level of quality then I think this remaster can end up amazing
I definitely agree with this! In the original she kind of looks stoned, but in the remastered one it gives me the feeling of, shes curious and wondering whats going to happen
I would call it a draw. At some scenes, colors and emotions are presented much better in Remaster. But (especially in first half of this video) Original version appeals more to me; as face mimics and gestures feels like more realistic reactions. Remaster seems go a bit too far with "emotion expressions" at some points. Changing or adding too much (to characters gestures), gives a vibe of watching rather performance in the theater than reflection of natural, human reactions and feelings. And... these eyes...
Well the game isn't done yet and I'm pretty sure they delayed the remaster of lis & before the storm all though unsure at the moment if I ain't mistaken this was delayed
There are pros and cons for sure. I like the extra clarity, though I notice some depth of field removed. The lighthouse scenes look phenomenal and it'll be a treat playing that (hopefully) without frame stuttering. But I'm not sure if I like the extra shadow detail and the higher contrast. The softer look and the general haze in some scenes had a special style and charm to it. The dreamlike stage lighting during the play at 0:47 for example felt intentional, and now its gone. The worst thing is the eyes though, particularly noticeable in the junkyard shot with Rachel and Chloe; Chloe looks asleep rather than upset, and in other scenes their eyes aren't quite looking in the right direction. Chloe was looking at Frank's knife in the original (also don't like his newer model, and while I'm mentioning models, why are Max's freckles so muted?) but in the remaster she's looking at Frank. We'll see if its noticeable at all in normal play, even here I had to slow it down to 25% to properly pick out what felt off. I hope they haven't made too many changes like that though, and especially hope the eyes aren't that bad elsewhere.
the original BtS still holds up in my opinion. sure there were a couple of glitches, but the lighting, expressions, & shading their faces had a lot more depth to them. LiS remastered + the original BtS would be the dream combo.
Her eyes are super contrasted with her face in the remastered BTS (really tan, really light blue eyes) and they aren't the same color as the Chloe in remastered LIS. Her nose is also longer, and between her lips and nose is too highlighted. There are too many highlights in general on Chloe BTS.
I like the remastered one so much more, you can feel the emotions in their eyes, this glowing and not looking like dead with their stare, it feels so much better
I feel like I can’t really judge it until I see the new mocapped movements and better lip sync in action. A lot of people don’t seem to like what they’ve done with the re-master, but to me it’s like The Sims 4 when you finally get CC to put on your sims (the best way I can describe it lol) I really like the new hair, how it moves and looks. And I think the more realistic eyes look nice too. Though the eyes are a bit overly glossy in some shots, overall they bring their faces to life way more than the original. I feel like they really fixed the dead face issue as well. Plus, the textures on the clothes are nicer. While it may be brighter in some parts, they also fixed the shading in other parts. My favorite bits from this were the pool scene from 1:20-1:21 and the part with Chloe and Frank. I think the facial expressions and hair look really great here. And I like the new appearance of Max’s face. It’s softer, and really expresses that shy, doe eyed max that I feel like the original was going for. With the re-master, I don’t feel like they wanted to completely re-do the models and colors and everything because then it would be taking away the original charm of the game and how it was stylized. I personally think they did a good job of polishing the game in a way that helped both the graphics and movement, while still holding true to the original style.
I noticed that Chloe's eyes in the LiS remaster are better than the BtS remaster. BtS is also lacking in the lighting department. Hopefully, they'll fix the issues once the game is released. Edit: I mean Chloe rip me
Well, one thing I can say they've univocally improved upon in the remaster are the hands; I can finally tell what part of Max's fingers are supposed to be her nails.
0:42 I was hoping they would fix Rachel's hair. It cracks at her neck and it looks weird. All in all the remaster probably will be the ultimate way to play the game, but it still should have more improvements made to it. Let's not forget that it's not a free update, they cost money in the end
I like how more expressive their eyes are, now in scenes where something shocking happens their eyes open up a lot, looking actually surprised instead of just sad, which makes more sense
honestly i would be totally down to get the remastered version because the game has a completely new set of emotions since the characters have actual facial expressions now. and for someone like me who got really attached to these characters the gameplay will feel very different while being the same game. it will also be so cool to see the game like this because the one we know is such low quality compared to this. to say the least i am excited to either see the gameplay or get it myself when this comes out. also i think it would be kinda neat to notice little things they could have changed. for example the dancing scene and how its slightly different. as someone who has watched this game many times and played it a couple myself i would find it kinda fun in a way ig to look at something and go "hey thats different/changed" yk? idk im just excited hahaha
I can get over the lighting issues (though I do hope they get fixed) just because of how much more emotional the characters look. It was a little hard for me to tell in the side by side clips but the “before” and “after” images are what really sold it for me. In a way I wish I could forget everything about LiS to experience it for the first time again, but with the added emotion.
honestly the big drastically different ones are rachael and max, they look a little more real like when rachael had screamed and maxs face looks different too which throws me off
while the textures and lighting of the remastered in certainly improved, I feel like the attention to details and personality is more in the original one
@@badonkadonk8745 she literally still looks the same it’s almost as if more expressions suddenly mean it doesn’t look like said character anymore. Just a pattern I’m seeing with some of these comments
The "weird thing" in the eyes you guys are saying is light dudes, they look vivid, not plastic, I prefer the new ond, plus, max's hair is moving and don't look like plastic at the storm scene, I do prefer the remastared one, just max skin should be a little bit more like the original one, but still really good job about the emotions.
Just pause at 1:10 And now tell me the remastered version looks good. In the original it just looks so much better ... so much more emotions. The remastered version is like "OMG I saw a ghost!"
