for the caller who is an accountant and being laid off, i'd consider a side hustle of business bookkeeping business. it's relatively simple and straightforward and can be operated from home. and caller from CA who wants to leave and close to retirement, i totally understand the feeling. we left CA in 2013 because we saw the writing on the wall and didnt like the direction california was heading. moved to TX and then to NV. Leaving CA was the best decision we ever made in our lives. however like jade and rachel said, you and your wife need to be on the same page when it comes to moving. best of luck!

You don’t need a truck for living somewhere where it snows I drove a ford fiesta with snow tires and went to the mountains in Idaho to ski all the time with no issues just buy snow tires for the car you have

You are so right Latexfree I drove a Honda Accord in nasty winter PA weather. Snow tires make all the difference. I didn't even have covered parking. I'm very grateful to live in FL now!

I grew up in Alaska my entire life and drove a Toyota Corolla! They are trying to justify this purchase but they should just admit they want a truck. It’s not necessary for the snow. Especially a $30k truck

Agree, I drove in terrible snowy weather in PA and never had a truck. Just need snow tires and halfway decent car. Glad I live in California now !

Agreed, I live deep in the Colorado Rockies with an average of 10ft a year. A truck is nice to have but not required at all.

Exactly I agree! Here in NY, people drive Corollas and Camrys in the snow. I drive an suv. Just worry more about the tires than the actual vehicle.

Amen we are retiring as a couple in 2 months have only 400k in ROth funds and 3200 a month in ss..we have no debt so we will make do not a fancy living but no stress no TAXES ..happiness is more important than money for sure

To the Maria in sf call, if your planning on moving back to Chicago why not move now sell the single family home only you’ll be out of debt real quick with maybe $100k to invest. Live in one side of the duplex and have renters for now in the other side. When your daughter is old enough have her live in the other side. I’m a California native shoot if my family didn’t live here I would totally move somewhere else I can’t afford to buy a house here in California.

To Josh in Sacramento I wish they had challenged him to option C or D. To go somewhere where his wife can make closer to what she is making. Which as a nurse she could! For her to do travel nursing where she could make more than she is now and possibly take assignments near family some. For him to change careers altogether where he could likely make more than he is now. Not be confined to those 2 choices just for early retirement

I’m a Rn in California and moved to South Carolina. Took a huge pay cut and except for housing and gas prices nothing else was lower. Since then the housing has gone up a lot. Some things at the supermarket were more expensive. Restaurants, hair salons ect were the same price. I had LESS money at the end of the month. Couldn’t wait to move back to California! That guy needs to just change jobs and maybe move to a different area of California. California is a huge state and there are actually a lot of conservatives in certain areas of the state. Los Angeles and San Francisco are Not all of California. There are a lot of smaller towns. Beautiful towns in the mountains. They are going to regret moving especially the wife. California is a good place to work as a Rn- high pay, staffing ratios, strong nurses union. Other states treat nurses like crap. I had no staffing ratios in South Carolina and had 10 patients to take care of for low pay. They may end up divorced, wife will be miserable.

we moved to a different part of the u.s. from CA but found the opposite. housing, utilities, gas prices, some groceries, taxes, were all cheaper. income was less for my wife at first (shes also a nurse) but now she makes a good wage and we have enough money to max her pension and still have money left over every month to eat out and save for vacations. in CA it felt like we were always paycheck to paycheck despite contributing nothing to retirement. these days we can easily afford to move back but we'd have to make sacrifices to our quality of life that isnt really worth it for us.

53:10 Dave would NEVER endorse making LESS money. He expects anyone changing jobs to make MORE money. He says it all the time..."Why do people say they have to make less money doing something they love? They should make more!" Or words to that effect. I also doubt he would have approved the title of today's episode.

@@melanieb2132 I agree 1,000% with you. My husband took a cut in pay and benefits about ten years ago. He's a changed man (for the better). We still managed to reach BS7 in spite of less income.

@bettedavis9261 the key is maslows hierarchy of needs. Research shows, once all basic needs are met, and you are out of debt (you aren't running for your life) the level of wealthy you have is pretty negligible. Contentment and safety can be achieved with less.

I think I seen he’s going to be stepping back fortunately some people like him as for me I don’t. He’s too harsh I’m not sensitive in anyway but he just doesn’t listen sometimes to people definitely isn’t sensitive to peoples situations. Tough love I get it but sometimes he’s an ahole.

Here’s what I don’t agree with the Ramsey way to pay cash for the car on the Richard and Maria call, I’ll take Richard’s side clearly they have the money to pay cash however if they can use jaded logic and put the other $15k to a index fund shoot your winning either way. They make $100k what a car payment for 3 years would be $300 a month it’s not even 30 percent if their income.

Ok, so initially I was EXCITED to watch "the girls" together...... but Racheal just seems so aquward and uncomfortable next to Jade.... like they are in competition..... what is up with that? Relax Racheal, focus on your kids, how to spend more efficiently with a large family and promoting the marriage with a financially collaboration.... Jade is cool and artsy, different person but can be complementary like my sister and I, we get along so well because we are opposite.... luv yah both!!!❤❤❤❤
