So basically you sat down, drank some tea and browsed the internet and then all of a sudden it was lunch time. lol

To be honest, some days it really goes that way. One person drops in to ask something about a protocol, next your PI wants to ask a question about your meeting abstract, then you need to calculate how much reagent you need for tomorrow, then you received a notification about an interesting paper, then your waiting for a blood sample to process but don't hear anything from the university hospital until 5 in the evening, you had a 'lunch' meeting which took 2 hours instead of 1 because the projector wouldn't start up right and some wise postdoc from another department asked a series of really intriguing questions (even though you almost dozed off). Before you know it it's 7 pm an you're not even home yet, and you wonder how productive you've been today. Some days, yes, some are really like that in the scientist's life. BUT there's much fun and joy as well you know ;)

Hey! I absolutely love this video! I am also currently doing a PhD on Breast Cancer and I definitely feel watching this video has helped me gain a better insight into life in a lab :) I just wanted to ask what time do you start work, how many hours you work for and how many days per week do you work for (sorry for the number of questions!)? Could you also please possibly do a video on what you do and what you've done so far in this field of research? This video was great, like all your others :) Thank you!
@HaveYouEverWondered
@HaveYouEverWondered 6 лет назад
Hi, thanks so much! I'm glad it's helped. During my PhD I was quite flexible (the perks of academia). I would generally work for 8 hours a day, although in my final year I was frequently working 10+ hrs or coming in at 12am and 6am for time points. My weekends dissipated in final year too :( I can for sure make a video about that and my research. Keep an eye out for it in the next month or so. Good luck with your PhD :)

I'm thinking of taking on biomedical science, as I love biology. Do you truly feel like your work is making a real difference (an impact) in people's lives for the better, or do you feel it to be a little bit of a "repetitive routine"? Thanks in advance for your answer. By the way, cool video.
@HaveYouEverWondered
@HaveYouEverWondered 7 лет назад
Thanks for the comment. I feel i'm quite lucky in a way because all of my research projects so far have had a direct route to impact so you can see how they would help people (when the research is finished). For example my PhD project would directly help the pharmaceutical industry make effective drugs for kidney disease cheaper and quicker, thereby helping people in a shorter time frame. And It's actually being developed further which is pretty cool. That's the great thing about research, you can focus on different things so it rarely gets repetitive. Biomedical Science is a great course to take as well as there's so much variety in it. Good luck!

Every daily routine helps everyone.Lab work can be inse and repeat.Its how u look at it.It can be boring and repetitive and some people dont like to do that with the rest of their life.The only way to truly know if u like it is by going through internship first. @@AdityaSharma-jw3ct ok according to me that's great if you are researching on your own this shows that you are interested in the particular subject so, what you can do is you can start your own blog and just write about your ideas and explain them easily to the audience and more better suggestion would be that you should write your own research paper and you should try to publish it. Try on researchgate website. Check this website you might get some idea. All the best! Keep going. Cheers #science community.
