The amount of times ive come to a junction and someone is parked up right on the corner and has waved me through thinking it will be ok for me and then i just sit there and watch a truck of a 4x4 drive past them when they told me it was "clear" could have ended my riding. NEVER trust someone elses judgement on weather or not you can make the turn. You're absolutely right. On the UK police advanced test, the candidate has to give a running commentary throughout. This is something which one should practice: describe all the hazards you can see: in urban situations, especially, it can be hard to cram everything in, even when talking quickly.

Agree with what you say about some car drivers. They don't seem to look beyond their bonnet. I haven't ridden since the early 1980s but I drive a 7.5 tonne truck for my job and I am always looking around me and using the mirrors. When I turned 50 my wife got me an AMG driving experience at Mercedes Benz world ar Brroklandscnear where I live. On the high speed circuit the instructor commented that he was impressed that I was looking out of the side windows approaching the bends in the track. He said loads of people just seem to stare straight ahead. Despite the car driving test being harder these days it seems the standard of driving has dropped.

Spicy this is perfect, I wish everyone on the roads would think like this unfortunately not. It's exactly how I ride and drive the car, 2 seconds is not enough space to the car in front, leave double that (or more) and give yourself time to react when the numpties in front get into trouble. I hate it when everyone is so close and then the lead car brakes on the slightest of bends in the road and it concertinas along the line. No one makes any use of the throttle, the gearbox or common sense. Also having right of way isn't gonna help when you blow through on a green light but the pickup is on the phone to his boss and doesn't see the red light on his side, if having "But I had right of way" engraved on your tombstone makes you feel better then crack on. Love the way you ride - keep safe.

1) Thanks so much for this! I have heard this called "road strategy" in the USA. Those near-miss channels are fine for a taste of how not to ride, but I get far more out of seeing what experienced riders do to avoid near-misses entirely. And when you see riders on different continents and different sides of the road doing and saying the same things and breaking down situations in the same ways, it helps you get a "feel" for what you should be doing. 2) Your motovlogs make England look like a motorcycling paradise.

I only just managed to see the car and applied my brakes as I didn’t know if the car saw me, and yup, car pulled straight out, wasn’t her fault though. Your videos have helped improve my riding and helped me learn to ride a geared bike and keep young and inexperienced riders (like me) aware of the dangers of the road.

Great video I definitely appreciate what you're saying. I had a similar situation a few weeks back where I was going down the road there was a left hand turn and a car turning right. Thankfully i was paying attention and saw there was a family with a pram walking down past him and obscuring the view for the driver. So I slow right down as the car pulls straight out sees me emerge from behind the family and there was no issue.

Very good sound advice! Along with trying to make eye contact, also pay attention to the front wheels because they will tell you they are moving and in which direction...HOPEFULLY. Lots of cars are out of blinker fluid and they figure they are in a right or left turn only, that EVERYONE else should know which way they are turning. We've all seen the last second U-turn, oops wrong lane lemme put you in danger so I can get to Wal-Mart, or..."I'm Karen, I drive an expensive car and I'll drive my way, not the right way!"

Until you get knocked off, you just don't have the awareness. There are many courses, some are free!! which will teach you, safer/better road positioning, observations etc. Go safe, run by the police, similar to police training, (I've done a taster, learnt loads in an hour!), also Dragon rider in Wales. More around the country. Can't recommend them enough, costs usually around £100-£150, but worth so much more to make you a safer, and possibly better rider. Great video mate. I watch the video. Bikes vs car drivers. I drive a car and ride a suzuki bandit 1250s. You can see what is going to happen. As in driver going to came into your Lane. Just back off. He is in a car if he hits you one winner but is not going to be you. It's no good getting upset about it. Have a shout in your helmet. Does make you feel better but just let the dickhead go. That way you live to tell the tail. Keep up the great video mate ride safe. See you in the next video

What you said about right of way tracks with comments I've seen, like how graveyards are full of people who had the right of way, or that if you need to give up right of way to ensure your safety, then do it. Seems more and more to me that car drivers think the highway code only applies to looking out for other cars and not to riders.

Honestly, I think they show as little regard to anyone on the road. It's got way worse in the last few years too.

Thanks for this. I drive a car in the same way tbh. Always aggressive defensive That is take control of the lane but be aware that everyone is an idiot (including myself on times). It comes from learning to drive in central London. LOL

Toxic Vlogs do it!! It’s amazing! I am going through my tests at the moment! Wish I did it years ago!

The hazard perception part of the theory test is really good for this BUT, and it’s a big but, the pass Mark is 58%. So you can get it wrong almost half the time. Having just done it on my way to my DAS (I’ve ridden a bike for 3 years and driven a car for 18 years) it was fairly straightforward but I still dropped a couple of marks. I think the whole re-test or at least assessment of skills at regular intervals is needed.
@spicy110
@spicy110 5 лет назад
Personally I think that test is almost worthless. It is really overly easy and also not realistic as on the video you turn out junctions without looking. Like the camera was bolted on the bonnet of a car. It's cgi they could have not done it that way!

I agree it isn’t great. But it is better than nothing. The main problem as I see it is a couple of things. Firstly skills fade. As our roads seem to get ever busier things that people “got away with” before now because of the extra traffic means they end in an incident. It’s very difficult for someone to spot where their own skills have slipped but how many people do you hear say “I probably couldn’t pass a test now”? Also as vehicles get “safer” so it makes them more difficult to see things due to bigger obstructions like the A posts on a car and bigger blind spots in HGVs and Busses.

Whenever I've had someone up my arse, especially on hayling, all I've done is a shew gesture behind me, funnily enough It actually works like all the time. I think with people in cars sometime just don't realise how close they are to you till you remind them

Shame most the RU-vid bikers accelerate towards some cars to cause a scene, I ride a bike and I haven’t needed to smack off someone’s mirror, and while rev bombing is louder than a horn in some cases, the driver might not understand what it means whereas when someone hears a horn it’s a sound people are used to, we’ve all had it where you miss second and go into neutral, rev your bike by accident and carry on, how should someone get the difference between that?
