On the CBT they complicate it massively in my opion. The say a daily check should be the acronym POWDER. P - Petrol O - oil W- water D - Damage E - Electricals R- rubber (side walls nicks and tears) And the they say weekly you should do BOLTS. B - bolts & brakes O - oils (engine, clutch, brake and chain) L- Lights T - Tyres (pressure, depth,tread) S - seat, steering and suspension

Very good video, one thing i tell me mates on bikes (who haven't got bikers in the family who teach them) is change your oil regularly and adjust your chain, dont rev the piss out of it and finally if you use it everyday it doesn't have time to breakdown.

A Haynes manual is a must if you want to do a lot of work to your bike or car, I once knew an awesome mechanic who was self taught using Haynes manuals for years from a young age. I got my finger caught between a chain and sprocket once, I was about four years old and done that thing when you put the bike upside down and spin the wheel as fast as you can with the pedals :)
@spicy110
@spicy110 5 лет назад
That's a good call, I never had that for my 125cc bikes as Haynes had not come out with the Chinese 125s edition. So I learnt from doing but I had a pretty good idea at that age anyway. 🙂
@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 5 лет назад
I trained as a mechanic (I've got a lot more paperwork than Jake lol) but I have always got one for my cars, still yet to get one for my bike, just so it's there if/when it's needed. There are manuals for many Chinese bikes, there is also a manual for Chinese 125's in general (not model specific).

I like the tip for brakes that John McGuinness gives for EACH time you get on your bike. Squeeze the brake lever. He always worried that one of his kids would knock over a bike in the garage and then pick it up without telling anyone perhaps putting a dangerous hairline crack in said lever!

@jellystick2525
@jellystick2525 5 лет назад
About the batteries: Generally all of the batteries used in motorcycles even including the lithium ones have negative effects from either too high or too low temperatures. During summer as long as you dont keep your bike sat under direct sunlight for too long it won't have much effect, if your battery is overheating when being used it's most likely due to a short, faulty regulator or generally something is taking too much juice. Regarding the cold weather this is where the batteries go bad because the chemical reaction required to produce electricity is slower due to the cold alongside with crystalisation that happens due to low charge. If your battery stops holding charge when it's cold it's probably not a coincididence, charge it up see how it goes, if it dies on you again it's time for a new one. Generally batteries can last well up to 4 years without problems but after that they are bound to start failing, so I advise to change them every 4 years, however if you keep your battery charged up when youre not using it it could last longer than that. Most batteris are called 12V batteries however this is just because the motorcycle system is based on it, if you have a Volt meter (and you should) put the probes on both terminals on the DC setting that is indicated by the __-__- symbols not the sine wave! the healthies batteries aka new should measure 13.2 however as you ride your motorcycle they can charge up all the way to 13.9, there are spec sheets on the internet and your battery should have some info, generally if it's close to 12.4 it needs a serious charge as 12.4 is barely sufficient to even spin your starter. Also you can give your old batteries to some scrapyards and get a return on your money since the lead inside them is salvagable.
@spicy110
@spicy110 5 лет назад
Good info. I will add some bikes cook the battery. My xj6 gets stupid hot in the summer and the batt happens to sit right behind the engine.
@jellystick2525
@jellystick2525 5 лет назад
@@spicy110 Thats an annoying design, I should also add that eletrical faults are very rage inducing since theres so many things that play part like relays and fuses, but If anyone thinks they have a problem or want to have the upper hand when one occurs check out this page motorcyclemd.com/how-to-fully-troubleshoot-your-motorcycles-charging-system/ Im currently doing my electrical design unit in engineering and as hard as these seem its really useful to know how your bike works

Hey Spicy, I found a CB125T barn find on eBay. Do you think it would be worth fixing up to make my own bike? I have pretty much no knowledge of motorcycle stuff, but it would be something id like to try. So far the bids are pretty low, and the bike cosmetically seems good.

No I just wanted to see what it looks like and tbh you'll be making a very big mistake or you'll be laughing. What if do if I was you is look up everythk g there is to know about the bike and other bikes too but it's going to take so time and doing to get that bike back to it's former glory, you'll need all new parts and most likely an engine rebuild...... in my eyes it 10000000% isn't worth even if you do know what your doing I have a CG125 I payed £420 for it and it only has a few minor issues but runs and rides very well
@danielcoupland4620
@danielcoupland4620 5 лет назад
Yeah, I asked him about it. He's pretty vague but he says there's no rust, and cosmetically it's good and just very dusty. I'll keep an eye on the bids and if it goes cheap, ill give it a shot, could always sell parts individually I suppose. Any ideas of a bike that would be good to do a restoration on, and that doesn't break the bank? I have an msx125 at the moment but want to try something new. And to be honest im not looking to make it perfect. Practicallity would be great since ill be useing it :)
