In this video, Dr. Mikkel Jarman presents the case of a 9-year-old girl with an extremely severe toe walking abnormality. Prior to treatment, she demonstrates an inability to get her heels to the ground whatsoever, appearing as if "walking on hot coals" with every step.
Dr. Jarman explains that the root cause was a congenital muscular anomaly in her calf called gastrocnemius soleus equinus. To correct this, he performed surgical lengthening of her Achilles tendon and removed the abnormal muscle tissue that was restricting normal ankle range of motion.
Just 6 months after surgery on her first leg and a couple months after the second leg, the girl's gait is completely transformed. She now demonstrates a normal heel-to-toe walking pattern for the first time in her life. Visible improvements in surgical scars are also noted during the healing process.
