Lifetime Tamarack Pro 103 - Is it better than the original? 

I bought the Tamarack Pro 103 from Walmart for $399 3 yrs ago. Made a lot of mods including raising the seat a little & tackle boxes now fit under it. It isn't the most stable kayak due to it being 31 Inches wide but it has been a workhorse and I've caught hundreds of fish in it. Still think it's 1 of the best entry level fishing kayaks out there. Purchasing a better paddle is definitely a must.

You can easily raise the seat to get under it. You simply unclip front clips and lean back grab your box. The area is really for a safety kit... You only need it if you have an emergency .. I have the exact Tamarack Pro 103 I use it alot I live on a river.

Life jacket whisle.. always it's the law. You don't have to wear it but have to have them aboard. A throw as well in some states

I unlock my seat and lean back when I need my tackle box. No prob

I bought this kayak last spring, its my first and so far I love it. I looked at the Tamarack for over a year and just couldn't pull the trigger, knowing I would have to upgrade the seat right out of the box. I've fished lakes rivers and even been through some class II rapids. The only upgrades I've done are a rear hatch to locate a battery box for my locator, and an anchor trolly. I agree the under seat area is useless for tackle, I use it for maps of rivers and lake depth charts, so I a can go right to the structure with out having to search on new to me lakes. Great video.

I just bought one yesterday at Farm and Fleet. Now, its called the Tamarack Pro 103. It weighs in at 57.5 pounds. Comes with a paddle and a track mounted rod holder. My previous experience with Lifetime products was a Yukon Angler kayak. It was awesome, but a little bit too heavy for me. I'd say the Tamarack is about the same as the yukon, just a couple feet shorter and lighter. The issuevwith the seat height being too low to allow access to the under seat storage, can solved by purchasing 3" seat risers that are available online from variety of suppliers. Ill also, that the seat is so comfortable. In my Yukon, which has the same seat, after 6-8 hours of use, i didnt have any discomfort at all. It also can be used as a low to the ground camp chair. One of the things i never see on any fishing kayaks, kayaks or canoes, is the use of a safety flag. A lot of the waters that i boat on allow motor boats. I just feel safer having one.

You can buy plastic risers for the seat that raises it additional 2 inches. Guy prints them out on 3d printer. Solid mounts. Just search lifetime tamarack pro seat riser. $30 plus shipping. Just picked this kayak up at wal world for $375. Solid so far for the money. Good vid, appreciate the content.

Hi GW, Well produced video. This is the first video I’ve seen that shows the set up of the seat so clearly. How did you make the strut to raise the seat? Also could you mind telling me a bit more about what you did with the front webbing to make room for the tackle box. I have a tamarack angler that I used a Coleman soft camping seat for comfort with a couple of scupper plugs behind the seat for water protection. This week I got the pro but haven’t taken it out yet. The design is similar for the hull underside. Although the pro is 3 inches longer and 6 lbs heavier. The framed seat and tracks are an improvement. There is a bucket in the hold in the pro. I use a plastic bag in the 10 footer. Thinking about better paddles. Thanks GW! Happy paddling and good fishing to you.

I just ordered one of these and i cant wait for it to arrive.

Bought the Tamarack Pro at Blains Farm and Fleet, on sale, for $419. Going to fix the paddle holders with some Yak Terminal Ends for the bungee cords, so the water doesn't get in their mounting holes. They are only $1 each, something the manufacturer should upgrade next year. I tried it out on the water, and the seat felt great, and my back didn't hurt afterwards, like my other sit in kayaks. I might put in a 2 inch high board, to raise the seat back up higher. I ordered extra seat clips, and end plugs for the seat, got shorted two of them. They sent them free.

I’m going to pick up the 103 I just bought online. Which it’s the 91033 and I noticed a 91058, do you know the difference because they look exactly the same to me. Also is the storage compartment water tight?

Thank you for posting this; good vid. I don't see a pole holder for an active rod on this model. It looks like there are two pole storage holes on either side of the seat just to the rear, but no actual active rod holder like the Angler 100 has. Did I just miss it?

Just the seat alone is worth buying this over the og Tamarack.

Just bought one and each time after taking it out I've noticed a cup amount of water inside the kayak after removing the compartment bucket and looking in. Is that normal? Plz help

How does this compare to the Teton? I never fished out of a kayak I figured one of the two would be a good 1st kayak
