"Life Every Voice and Sing". I grew up with this song. I was made to memorize it in elementary school, and learned to play it for school assemblies. This song is one I have cherished in my heart for as long as I can remember.
It is a song that not only testifies to the struggles of black people, but also to their hope. A unified hope founded up a resounding faith in the "God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way."
It is an invitation of inclusion. An invitation to rejoice in liberty and the freedom to worship the God who brought us over.
I share the faith of my African America ancestors. It reminds me of the unwavering hope that I too have in the person of Christ, who unites me with people from every nation tongue and tribe. I celebrate this rich heritage and carry it forward to my children and to the next generation.
Perhaps you'll join me in singing this song on this Black History Month and also ponder the faith of my ancestors. Do you have this hope?

We listen to you every Monday in Brooklyn, New York in our 5th Grade class! (we only listen on Mondays because we listen to different versions of the songs on the other days). Thanks for helping us start our week off on the right foot!

Lift every voice and sing Till earth and heaven ring Ring with the harmonies of Liberty Let our rejoicing rise High as the listening skies Let it resound loud as the rolling sea Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us Facing the rising sun of our new day begun Let us march on till victory is won Stony the road we trod Bitter the chastening rod Felt in the days when hope unborn had died Yet with a steady beat Have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered Out from the gloomy past Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast God of our weary years God of our silent tears Thou who has brought us thus far on the way Thou who has by Thy might Led us into the light Keep us forever in the path, we pray Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee Shadowed beneath Thy hand May we forever stand True to our God True to our native land Our native land

What a beautiful arrangement!! I was contacted at the last minute to sing this song at one Juneteenth event. I'd also like to use it for my worship service this Sabbath. I pray that I have your permission to use your instrumental. I wish that there was a way to purchase this arrangement. Please let me know whenever you have performance tracks for purchase. I would love to support you.

Brother Mays. We are looking for an arrangement such as this to use in Juneteenth program ... in about a month. Looking for contact info to find out what is needed for permission to employ this as it is perfect and beautiful.

A lilting and powerful Church melody composed in 1900. It has been of late abducted by the NAACP and rebranded as the ‘ Black National Anthem’. It is nothing of the sort and was never meant to be. It’s a Church song… period.
