Nick, I like your energy and enthusiasm but this is the second video I've watched where I think you're being irresponsible. Having untrained lifters attempt bodyweight overhead movements is super dangerous. Olympic lifts are technique dependent. I wonder how many of your contestants go home with serious injuries? I had to stop the video after the first skater kid almost bailed his first attempt. Not a hater. I love how you encourage people to get into fitness but I think this one was a miss. Cheers.

@aggman0123
@aggman0123 Год назад
@@boliussa I wasn't saying that it's hard because they only had a small amount of time to do it. Weightlifting in itself is a very difficult sport that people spend their lives training for. I agree. I hurt my lower spine trying to catch myself backwards on one of my shoulder press reps in my lower 20's. I heard a small crack and never got it checked out. The pain has gotten less over the years and it only is noticeable during certain times. These challenges are fun to watch but I worry someone will hurt their spine trying to catch themselves from going backwards while the weight is up.

I have no experience in such lifting, but I have a feeling that multiple people in the video tired themselves out too much, before being able to lift their weight, maybe even failing exactly because of that. What do you guys think about it? Quickly going for like half of the weight seems fine for a warm up, but aren't multiple attempts + taking too long simply crushing and draining you out extremely fast?

@MacrosBlack360
@MacrosBlack360 Год назад
I always thought I'm quite strong pound for pound (65kg/144lbs). Even though I've never done clean&jerk I thought it would be a piece of cake. Tried it and can't even get the bar to my shoulders. After seeing all these guys doing so well, I feel pretty weak now, especially because some don't even go to the gym, like I am. BUT after years of lifting I finally have a goal again and I will train my ass off to achieve it.

Same here. I started lifting weights at about 17 and 135 pounds. I’m 40 now and about 220. But I mostly did bodybuilding type workouts. I started doing the Olympic lifts and it’s a whole different world. I also feel weak with these lifts. I have a pretty hard time with the clean and jerk when catching it on my upper chest, also my hands are short so when I catch it properly my pinky finger is basically taken out of the equation. But I’m fascinated with these lifts , they are basically a full body workout 🏋️‍♀️

Bison I usually love your videos but I've gotta say I didn't enjoy this one as much. I love oly lifting with a passion. I've been at it for about 18 months. I realize that isn't a long time but any injuries that I have experienced, or injuries my coach have mentioned happened during his career and one of his athletes careers, all occurred when performing the lift incorrectly. I currently have a wrist sprain for catching the bar incorrectly at a warm-up weight. Most of the strangers who attempted to clean and jerk in this video have never done it before, do not have the mobility or flexibility to do it, have never broken the movements down that are within a clean and jerk, and do not know how to properly bail out. The ending was awesome and as always I love watching your videos. But for safety reasons I was very worried and am glad that nothing went wrong when a lot could have gone wrong in the recording of this. Keep at it with the awesome videos though!!! Always a fan.
@nicksymmonds
@nicksymmonds Год назад
Thank you for this message! I was concerned for people’s safety as I always am. To help make sure people were not injured I was there to coach them, spot them, and help them warm-up & build correctly. I assure you no one was injured in the making of this video. I also want to point out that life is about taking risks. Sometimes we get a little banged up and bruised along the way and that is just part of the adventure! There are worse things in life than nursing an injury. As an elite athlete yourself I know that you know what I’m talking about!! 🦬

I think the push press would be the easy part. I always do my OHP strict (I've done multiple sets of 10 reps with 135 strict at a BW of 170), but I think push is a lot easier because you are using leg drive rather than just upper body. I've never done a clean with any appreciable weight, so that's an unknown for me.
@sirisaacedgelord6733
@sirisaacedgelord6733 Год назад
Push press is always easier than strict. At one point I could only strict press 125 but could push press 175. But I also have strong legs so. Oh and also the clean part is mostly just about technique. I could do a shitty version of it with 175 as a max but switching to actual good form I probably could get 165 or so and I've not trained it correctly for very long
@coachingconfidant2785
@coachingconfidant2785 Год назад
lol push press is only like 10-20% more weight you can lift, so you would get around 150
