I recently received an ingenious, compact and light-weight snowmobile accessory for moving a sled. Using a shoe-lace thin chord, can it lift my 500 lb. sled, from the front, without breaking?
Is a product small enough to fit in my pocket really enough to haul a snowmobile onto a trailer? Could it pull my heavy MXZ670 up a hill?
They claim it can lift an engine block, so I'm putting it through its paces.
Note: The approximate retail price of the product is referenced in this video. Please see the website for current pricing.
I make no claims about this product other than the test I performed for the purposes of this video. For specific information, or to buy block and tackle for sale for your sled, check out the Nifty Lift Website: www.nifty-lift.com/'.

Mmmmm, salivating over your MXZ670! I had a 96 MXZ670 for about five years and ended up selling it when family problems arose. Me and my group of friends swear by the 670 as one of the best motors made, along with the local mechanics at the dealer. Loved that sled.

I ordered mine a few days ago, be a handy tool for getting unstuck, I ride solo and far, so be nice to have some peace of mind should I get stuck, we both know it happens, especially up on the peninsula snow gets deep, nice to see winter returning finally

One thing to mention, not only is the sled 500lbs, but if you are pushing or pulling it you have additional weigh to over come the with friction of the lugs (and studs) that are sunk into the snow, and the friction of the skis. This is a great idea, I'm going to look into getting one to carry. I never thought of this one.

Hi Michael, Thanks for watching and commenting. I love them too. As long as it goes on the snow, it's ok with me, but I do really like the look of these. When I was looking for a sled, I just kept looking until I found one in my price range.

I dug my bearcat in 2 meters of wet snow last spring and i had to call for 2 sleds to pull me out... lifting it would've been practicly impossible... the snow was packed in the track and turned to solid rock...

Brilliantly choreographed video Dave. Just an FYI that I'm not sure if Al mentioned to you. He sent the Nifty-Lift to Polytechnic Institute of Mass for a thorough stress testing and the first failure was to the line with a pull test that measured just under 5,800 lbs!!! Very incredible considering the size of the Unit. I show on my channel, the Nifty-Lift picking up my 700+ lb garden tractor. Give it a look if you so choose. Cheers! Zip~

Thanks Z. He did tell me that, I felt it was best to stick to the weights he references in his material and site. Because it's 4 to 1 purchase, it can get confusing. (Hooking directly to shackles vs a line to the shackles etc) I think I have seen your tractor video when I was doing my research. Thanks for watching & commenting.

We could have used this to drag our sled up on the trailer when it broke down lol. Also, we have the same exact sled '97 Skidoo MXZ 670. Have you ever had any problems of yours just shutting down completely and losing all power at random times. I will be going pretty fast (60-70 mph) on a frozen lake and it will just completely shut off. No power at all. We wait until the next day and it starts up first pull. Weird.

The key is it's made of stainless steel and aluminum. There is nothing worse than rusty tools. I think the bag that it comes in could be more heavy duty and water proof so when it's bouncing around in your storage compartment it won't do damage and will stay dry. Dave ! Sit down on your sled when reversing out of the shed ! Mark Bow
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 6 лет назад
Lol..no worries I was being carful. Most important is not standing. It's a pain getting around the snowblower if I don't feel like moving it. I agree the bag could be better. I think its a new company, trying to keep costs as low as possible, putting $ into the product before packaging.

It's gonna happen to most of us eventually...in this video, in fairness, I wasn't really standing, I was kneeling off to one side, I wouldn't have gone over...actually I started kinda sitting on my one boot stood up as I came past the blower...Still the safest place is seated....

I'm terrified that my sled will break down and I will need to leave it at the Sno-park. I have a larger block and tackle and I realize I should at least be leaving this in my car. I'm trying to get my wife to come with me more too...this could be a useful tool for getting unstuck since she doesn't have the muscle to yank on a sled. As we live to say "smarter, not harder".
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 6 лет назад
I can relate....it does suck when you don't have a lot of friends with sleds. Sometimes you have to ride alone. Keep up the maintenance, bring a few sensible items, and then just go have fun without worrying too much. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Awesome! Def gonna look into it. Currently I'm carrying a 3/8" rope & 3 Aluminum SMC Crevasse Rescue Pulleys ($16 ea @ REI) & locking carabiners to attach as 2:1 or 3:1 using a Z Rig system with prussics. Pretty good and super lightweight. But this appears even more compact in use & Super lightweight/compact rope! I'm guessing it's harder to pull this super thin rope even wearing gloves but 4:1 helps lots. Considered paracord, but hadn't trialed the Ultra 1700# paracord though I've seen it. I've also tested even heavy duty 1" or 2" webbing ratchet tie downs but they just don't generate enough pull with just 1:1. They're not a cum-a-long, and with webbing stretch, IF they work at all, they barely inch the sled along before they're fully wound around the ratchet part & you have to reset. Can barely move sled on flat or maybe very slight incline - could never pull it even part way uphill from a ditch, etc. May I'll switch to this system & test again!
@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 6 лет назад
Hi Hiker. Yes, the thin chord makes it a little harder to hang on to, but when I really wanted to heave it up something steeper, I tied a bowline in it or wrapped it around a stick. I think the fact that it's compact makes up for it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@MyOldSled
@MyOldSled 6 лет назад
I would have loved the snow to do that, as would every other snowmobilers in Ontario :) regardless of how much snow it's in, it would still give you a 4:1 mechanical advantage. It would take more effort in snow, but four times more effort without it.

I've seen the snowjack. I guess if you were unable to lift the back of your sled it would help. A lot of people,with bad backs, shoulders etc.
@moedogger21
@moedogger21 6 лет назад
My Old Sled Yes we get deep snow here, so it's very easy to get stuck in 4' of powder. Makes it nearly impossible, to lift the back of your sled. Lifting a 600lbs sled, that has snow in every crevice, out of a hole is quite the feat. Im financialy stable enough that I can afford to purchase things to Experiment...
