Basking lights, heaters, and tank lights for turtles! We'll discuss the pros and cons of different bulbs, what the proper temperatures should be, and more.
Lighting and heat are vital to the health of your turtle, and it's important to have the right types of both.
For tank lighting, it can be whatever type of light you want, as long as it brightens up the tank in the day and is off at night. Tank lights should be on from 10-14 hours.
For basking heating and lighting, you will need a uvB bulb, I prefer compacts, and a bulb that can heat the basking platform to about 85* F, though the perfect temperature depends on the age of the turtle. Uvb light should be placed in a fixture about 12-18" away. Heat lamp distance can be adjusted to get the right temperature.
For tank heating, use the correct wattage heater for your tank and temperatures should be warm for babies, medium for juvies, and can be cool for adults.
