Finally there is an adapter with USB and HDMI ports together. In this video, I will show you guys my finding on this adapter.
This adapter combines Lightning to USB and Lightning to HDMI adapter into one adapter. It does not support HDCP which means that it will not play copyright protected contents, unlike Apple official one which supports HDCP. And it get quite hot when use for a long period of time, so better ventelation design is needed. In my opinion, despite few downsides it works quite well against Apple official adapter, and it is whole lot cheaper.

Update(18/09/2022): it seems that it will not work with iOS16 as of now. iOS sees the adapter, but not displaying on to external screen.

Hi Tao! Thanks for doing this which is really useful. I ordered one myself through Alliexpress back in May with your help as other sources were limited in Australia. I have a similar dongle (OTG as well). The problem that I am seeing is that mirroring stops working sometimes. I have a TV and a USB Audio Mixer connected. I have a feeling that the device gets confused between USB and HDMI. The only way to fix mirroring is to reboot the iPad.

Thank you! I have been asking if I can use the 3 in 1 adapter instead of a bunch of different adapters. Other sites say you need a lightning to USB camera adapter and USB Ethernet adapter. I am not tech savvy at all, but I always have thought that I could use the 3 in 1 adapter rather than buying 2 separate adapters. Hopefully this will work. I have an iPad mini 2, and it really sucks that apple renders things useless so you have to keep purchasing updated products

How would the usb work with an audio cable splitter? I am looking at connecting my iPhone to a computer monitor for Instagram lives. At the moment I use a mixing board with the audio in/audio out splitter connected to a lightning to Apple jack adapter

I bought this adapter like a week ago. it was working fine with iphone x to 24 inch roku tv but now it does not wanna connect. I tried the 3 hdmi ports on tv and same thing. I have to unplug the adapter or turn off tv and sometimes it works that way, but it is a hit and miss. Am I suposused to just plug in the HDMI cable to ipnone and to Tv and just select on tv the HDMI port that HDMI cable is pluged in right? or do I need to do something extra on iphone to connect it?

Hello. Very informative video, good analysis of what is possible, good and bad. Still I wonder about the USB port. Could I use it with a usb unifying device, a dongle. I have the Logitech MX master 3, with a usb dongle. Mainly used for my Nas, connected to my tv screen. So I can use click and scroll with my mouse there. But could I use it also with my IPad Air 3, sticking the usb dongle in the USB port and a hdmi cable to my tv, so that I can click on my tv using the iPad Air with this setup? That I would like very much. The Bluetooth connection keeps on spinning between my IPad and the mouse, so no luck there. But about this combination usb dongle hdmi cable? Thx for your advice. Hi Tao, Thanks for the very informative review on each adapter. However I have a question. I also have purchased the lightning to usb3 adapter for my usb headphones. It was originally the idea of able to listen to music and still be able to charge my iPhone/iPad at the same time. However, now with the new iPad Air models using the type c connector, this official Apple adaptor won't be able to work with it. Do you think I could get a Lightning (female) to type C male adaptor to connect to the new iPad Air and then to the Apple lightning to usb3 adaptor?

Would this work? Connect the ipad to Apple Lightning to usb 3 (female) - a Wavlink usb3 (male) to hdmi (female) displaylink adapter - hdmi monitor And then connect a 3rd party lightning to usb 2 for wired peripherals like a wired mouse and a wired keyboard The goal would be to be able to connect the ipad to a monitor and to wired mouse/keyboard/ssd all at the same time Thanks!

Useful but…Apple have a habit of ‘catching up’ with third-party adaptors, rendering them useless at some point in time. I have a dozen lightning to USB adaptors that mysteriously stopped working. I tend to buy two at a time, because my family destroy them. So it’s not wear and tear, because even the unused items, when i went to try them, did not work. The connector has a chip inside (the proper Apple one) and is in fact pretty much a ‘dongle’ that enables or disables functions depending on whether it is real Apple or not. All my authentic Apple adapter leads still work. And yes, they’ve cost quite a bit. I thought you would just plug in any old HDMI adapter to the authentic Apple lightning to USB adapter? That would work forever, if it worked in the first place. But thanks for the demo, I hope i have assisted too. Keep safe, be well.

@Tom S Hi Tom, you have 2 options here: 1) use the official Apple Digital AV adapter(amzn.to/39soVFC) and Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, this method will give you a smooth visual and clean setup experience; 2) use the 3rd party adapter as shown in this video, then you can either use wireless mouse/keyboard(the ones come with 1 wireless adapter for both mouse and keyboard) or buletooth mouse and keyboard.

I've recently started streaming mobile games. I am currently using lighting to an HDMI adapter from third party manufacturer with the option of charging the phone, however, although charging occurs, the percentage of battery does not increase, ie. the battery discharges, but at much slower rate than without charging. I'm interested in whether this adapter has the ability to charge the phone when mirroring games, so that battery percentage goes up?

I do this with the original Apple one and it charges my phone just fine during gaming session. By the time I’m done after an hour my phone is fully charged.

I'm streamer if this product HIMD pass-through delay (lag) can be realtime then this would be perfect for me. After watching your video I can tell the delay is quite a bit, also I would expect audio lag issue (audio not synchronize with video when time went on) too. 1:30s for writing a 230MB file into the stick is terrible. What is the writing speed of the usb stick if you test it with benchmark? Did you compare the times when reading and writing with Apple official adapter? Thanks!

@ MM MM Hi, USB stick tested using BlackMagic: ~16MB/s. It took few seconds longer to write on the Apple official adapter, reading time was about the same.

@@TaoMStudio Hi Tao. I returned my apple adapter. It was too slow comparing with Macbook Pro times specially for writing (32MB/s Write speed USB 3.0 Stick took 1:03 for a 0.6GB File and for a 3GB File after 2:30, I cancelled the transfer because about 20% was complete). Also requiring external 10W+ power is too cumbersome and a mess for portability. Lightning port is bad for these kind of tasks. I hope apple switches completely to USB C in iphones and ipdas ASAP. Apple Files app in ios is also unfortunately a „baby software“ for file management. What I find interesting about your product testing is that no external power is required. Does it work stable with ios 14? I have read that main problem of these non mfi products is that they loose support in newer ios releases....

@MM MM Lightning port is USB2.0 standard, so regardless what you do, it will not improve the transfer speed any faster. As I showed in the video, iOS14 is a bit glitchy when use this adapter, but hopefully it will be fixed in later update. Anything is not MFi certified will have the possibility of not working properly. And I agree with you on File management app in the OS, Apple could have made it much better. But, this is typical Apple.

I have been looking for this product for YEARS!! I have a sabrent docking sation with extar IO for a tablet ( I use the lighting to USB3 female adapter to plug it into my iPad ). The docking station has a RJ45 LAN port AND HDMI port, however HDMI port on dock does not work with ios (does with android though 😒). IF this device works I could game/work/edit on my 4K 32inch monitor and have a solid connection. How is the latency with the HDMI if it sucks I just won’t use it for COD Mobile.

Lesson 1 do not update to ios 14 Lesson 2 there is a lag on this one and can’t play videos because of copyright. :( sad 😔 Lesson 3 hdmi and i usb works same time I did like this gadget actually but i think i will be fine with HDMI Apple original gadget. And sadly I’ll use wireless external storage which is slower and hard to use :( Thanks for the video, it’s very useful

Hi tao, could you confirm me if the lightning to hdmi cable (the original from apple) don’t works in 1080p? Or maybe is just mine. I tried connect my ipad with apple tv by airplay and works a little slowly maybe my internet, and then bought the cable but the definition is kind of poor. Looks so much better with airplay, maybe the lightning to hdmi works just in 720p(?) When i used the cable its a like the definition quality would be so much better in the ipad screen than tv, you could note that clearly when you read something, instead with airplay is exactly the same. At least for me

@ hugo sanches Hi, Hugo. You are correct. Apple's AV adapter doesn't technically output 1080p when do normal tasks, browsing, productivity. it is 1600x900. But, if you play a movie, youtube, and presentation, then it can output upto 1080p. Bear in mind, when you mirror contents onto tv(much bigger screen), everything is enlarged, so looks not as sharp.
