Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Review - They Lost Me 

I would prefer a simple, straight story with complex characters. This is the opposite. It's a great game, but the story has nothing to do with it. Can't tell you how many times I was disappointed by the ridiculous, unnecessary plot twists.

I understand that some people would think there’s too many moving parts to the story, and I’ll admit they probably could have cut stuff like the Ganzhe faction without much consequence, but I was just so engrossed in the character interactions to really care. The emotional climax of the story was really gripping and emotional, and Ichiban’s optimism in the face of a jeering crowd really touched me on a personal level. And as you said, the game is just really fun to play and I liked basically all the side content (Dondoko Island is super addicting). I’m sure I’ll find more to criticize as I play the game further, but rn it’s for sure my favorite game in the franchise, and I can’t wait to see more, now that Kiryu’s story is truly concluded.

Man. I get the criticisms with the story, i really do. But i still think this was one of the best yakuza games out there. I think the story delivered on a lot of things well imo. And the character moments for Ichiban and Kiryu were both really good.

*Spoiler* The game lost me when kiryu find back saejima majima and daigo. Because of the stupid plot twist "the truck driver record it for tatara Channel" -0 How did he got the idea to follow a perfect stranger in an abandonned area ? Kiryu is supposed to be dead and forgotten a random truck driver shouldn"t know him. -1 How did he know this secret reunion was going to happen ? -2 How nobody saw him recording especially majima who was watching in the direction of the windows ? -3 What is the outside party doing while waiting ? they didnt noticed this guy ? -4 Kiryu is basically a "secret agent" and he had no clue this was a possibility ? So many nonsense. And for what ? It dosent even affect the story that much. And also ... how kiryu win this battle ? Even in he's prime taking the 3 of them together would have been an hard fight and they are going ALL OUT on him. There is now way a old dying kiryu destroy them as strong as he is whitout any backlash, like .... he got defeated by yamai and some goons ... but majima+saejima+daigo are no match for him ?

For some reason disliking even something about Infinite Wealth will brand you an enemy of the state. Bringing in JRPG fans was really a mistake.

The MGS4 of Yakuza

I think that the game is decently written until around ch 8 where it kinda loses steam, and then by later chapters is just loses any kind of cohesive pull. Yamai was an absolute delight of a character, Ebina was okay, Bryce is terrible. I think that if the game had at least a "epilogue" type chapter it went be better. Overall really good game, story is a pretty big disservice.

I felt the story was lacking honestly compared to Like a Dragon who has more weight behind the story of Ichiban and their story was actually more desperate. This is lacking in that and we have explored these characters before as well so we don't need to explore again. Gameplay wise , i adored the game and its minni games , there is just so much to do. In some ways, I still liked Like a dragon more and its cast it just better than the newer ones. I enjoyed the game a lot honestly, even if the story is lacking

thanks or not spoiling. I am 100 hours in the game. and tbh I agree. the story has too much going on. I am only playing for Kasuga. I loved the story for Yakuza 7, but for Yakuza 8's story is a bit superficial.

Great video, the story was being built up well just like every other yakuza, but the climax was arguably one of the worst in the series

They had such a good streak with well written games after Yakuza 5. Sad, they failed in that one with the story, it felt like it will conclude a lot, but it was just a big filler for 100 hours with few good story bits.

I think one of the main criticisms I have for the direction of this series as of late is: (Let me first put a disclaimer that I haven't played gaiden or anything) Who beat Yakuza 6 and their first thought was "Kiryu's next move is DEFINITELY to become a secret agent" like. What 😭. The way i interpreted it at least is that Kiryu was going to retire from fighting/criminal life FOR GOOD because if he returned to any of it, it'd only bring danger to those he loves. And here he is, using a really shoddy alias and not attempting to disguise himself like. Whatsoever. It just feels like the finality of Yaluza 6 just didn't matter whatsoever? And nobody seems to criticize it at ALL? It just doesn't seem in character for him at all to continue this life, even if the tojo clan has been dissolved if that makes any sense

You nailed this. Props for criticizing a super highly reviewed game and doing it well. TBH the drink links are all formulaic and predictable, I'm surprised you even liked those. By the 3rd link you know exactly what's going to happen lol.
