Guerrilla's big problem here is that they didn't know how to write the character well, it's literally as if she didn't learn anything from her personal journey from the 1st game.
@@Grimpachi I think it would have been better to further explore how Aloy begins to be more cooperative with others outside of her circle of allies, seeing how she has grown as a person.
I thought her personality was fair enough in the first game since she was shunned from her tribe and many others. So, it makes sense as to why she doesn't trust anyone in that game. But in the 2nd game, holy hell I could not stand her. She's completely disrespectful of others beliefs and culture. Aloy treats Varl like crap.
Completely agree. i was thinking whether i am the only one felt like that about aloy. even Kratos of GOW, his attitude throughout the series made sense and falls right with the character and the entire premise of the game. but daaaamn!! this Aloy, her attitude, even while playing, i hesitated to trigger a conversation that it might ruin the mood.
I'm also playing the game the first time. I'm about 2 main quest away from finishing the game but I'm taking my time grinding. I agree with everything you said so far. Alloy isn't very likeable at all. But for me, her character does change a little bit later when she meets someone significant, without spoiling I can only say that person is very much like alloy, but at the same time, nothing like her. By then I feel like alloy is a bit more bearable.
I absolutely agree with you on that point: Alloy is not a nice person. I can imagine that she might have developed a hatred towards men due to her repressed sexuality and isn’t even aware of it. I wasn’t as prejudiced in normal conversations as she is, but I also built up a resentment towards men before I realized that I’m not straight. I didn’t know for a long time where this anger came from. I once kicked a man out of bed when he wanted to kiss me because I suddenly felt such disgust. Maybe I’m projecting too much of myself onto her, and I haven’t finished playing Forbidden West yet, so I don’t know what’s still to come. But that’s how it feels to me when I observe her interactions.
I was skeptical when I saw the title of the video, but after watching it I realize that there is truth to it. She often appears wild and not very friendly (I didn't notice if this varied depending on who she was talking to) and it doesn't fit with her actions (altruistic). I guess the writers' intention was to emphasize that her childhood in exile shaped her character or that her burden of saving the world is heavy to bear. Alloy is ultimately perhaps not so endearing. Varl and Erend are much more empathetic and play this role in her place.
This just sounds like another man telling women to smile. Women don’t have to be positive happy all the time , Aloy being callous makes her stand out amongst other female protagonists games. As a far cry 3 fan I can appreciate a protagonists personal journey of developing as a character but Aloy being bad ass solo loner is unique and enjoyable, regardless of character development. A point you never brought up is that although Aloy was an outcast she was still brought up to believe in a matriarchal society living adjacent to the Nora
Well the last point isn't relevant to her personality as Aloy hates politics in general. You also maybe bias. As I gave examples of other characters in other games like Joel and Deacan that aren't happy go lucky. So no I'm not telling Aloy to smile because funny enough she literally smiles often in both games. Aloy lacks a personality overall and the bit that is there is unpleasant. Characters like Laura Craft aren't positive happy all the time or most of the time. Neither is Ellie another character I mentioned. I like many female characters that aren't whatever you are suggesting I want in them. Lastly Stellar Blade's Eve is what I believe they wanted Aloy to be. She's heroic, smart, curious, and understanding. Aloy has heroic turned to the max but everything else low.
Damn IT! I got Zero Dawn to play because It looks cool. But hearing this. Now I'm kinda disappointed. I stay away from feminist bent characters. Especially if there is an undertone of misandry. But I still want to play Zero Dawn. So I will still play that.
HZD is good. Finished it on highest difficulty. Forbidden west, while technically is very good, story wise and character wise sux big time. FW is pushing "modern politics" a lot which spoils story big time. I did the story and stopped playing.
Utter ridiculousness. Nonsense. An unimaginable task, save the world. Aloy cared for everyone if she was this careless person that you describe, she would not have undertaken this task. She pushed people away to protect them because if she Allied herself with them and brought them along they would’ve died. She would’ve been putting them in mortal danger. It’s a simple as that. You’re reading into her actions with personal bias.
@herculaceify if that were true, she pushed Sylens away, too. She didn't because she respected him. Aloy feeling like she needed to do things alone wasn't about caring. It was she thought those people were slow and would hold her back. She had a complex that only she could solve anything, which Sylens showed her wasn't true. That was a plot point in Forbidden West by the way.
Ha, she didn’t respect him. She mistrusted him all the way. She had no choice but to work with him. And he used and manipulated her every step of the way. What I said in my previous post is proven if you watched the ending cutscene video of the epilogue. Time!! Being the main factor in everything. No time to explain everything over and over to everyone she met. She had to hurry or the world would be lost. The mission had to come first. You’re basing hatred toward her on a small number of conversation where she was rude admittedly. The other hundred conversations when completing side quests where she went out of her way to help others and was respectful and gracious. Some in my opinion that didn’t even deserve it. Sylens is a very poor example of your point. A Master of deception and lies. It was he that released Hades manipulated everyone into believing that he was a God. Orchestrated the massacre at the Sun ring, Fueling the war. Then he did it again with the Tanak. Your argument proves that you know nothing. Millions of copies sold, Only a very small minority, dislike Aloy but you!! Your talking out of your butt. Please reply so we can all watch you put your foot in your mouth again.
@herculaceify She respected Sylens because unlike everyone else she knew he was smart and not superstitious. He knew information she was trying to gain. This was all in the first game and in the second you can see Aloy happy that he stayed and decided to help everyone because again she did like him despite him doing things without informing her. Put my foot in my mouth ? If a different opinion than yours irritates you then let's not speak.
Your whole point that she pushes everybody away, that she has to do this solo, That you hate how rude she is. You contradict yourself when you say she did like him despite him doing things without her. Yet after all the atrocities that he committed. Betrayed his own clan the bunuk for a few scraps of Intel and relic, tried to get her out of his way by killing her TWICE, The slaughter at the sun ring where thousands of people were sacrificed, even he saw the folly and what he did and tried to repent yet he went and did it again and again. Failing to see how twisted for knowledge he is. Sparking a war for a second time and steal he failed to see. Yet after all of this, she still saw his value your point is mute.
