Not quite the same as it was back in the 70's.... First time I saw it I was driving a Navy truck, spotted it leaving the NSRA event & entering Hwy 99 in Bakersfield & drove all the way over the grapevine speeding up & slowing down, moving lanes checked the whole car out... It was nothing like other street rods of the time... Wayyyyy ahead of it's time... A couple months later got the new Hot Rod Magazine & there it was.... I remember it being a little more maroon rather than the current red & had the stripe with Lil'John lettering .... Cool to see it still exists... Looks like allot of Lil Johns handmade billet parts got toned down probably because while this was the car that started the trend & executed it to a whole different level the trend got so over done .....
That plate rings a bell. I went to a Good Guys show at the Dutchess County fairgrounds years ago and I recall a mud splattered red deuce like this. Was that you?
No not this car. This car never sees mud or dirt 😄 This is Lil John’s 32 and we have the original California I DROVE plate as well Have taken it out a to a couple events but not that one
Can someone tell me what happened to Lil John? All of a sudden he was out of the picture in magazines , there was no social media at the time , no internet . I felt like he was pushed out by Coddington. Lil John was, in my opinion the real thing . He was really a great innovator. I was never a fan of hot dogs by boyd . Caddzilla was the best car to ever come out of Coddington but it was built from a full size drawing from Larry Ericson. Lil John was my hero not boyd .
Lil John passed away in 2008 at age of 67. He didn’t like the spotlight he liked to stay low key but a great builder. Check out motor trend article. Spread the word on this 32 www.motortrend.com/news/hrdp-0803w-lil-john-buttera-death/amp/
@@mbproductions413 thanks for the link . I had no idea he went to indy . So whats the story on the 32 ? And...... didn't he build an equally cool 33 or34 , I think it was white . Thanks !!!
Was going to list it on BAT but decided not to as of yet. Right now it’s on FB marketplace facebook.com/marketplace/item/873018683940977/?mibextid=6ojiHh
‘Lil John Buttera’s masterpiece is still one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Unfortunately, it is just out of my price range. ‘Lil John Buttera is my favorite builder. I am a roadster guy, but am too tall to drive his white A (my friend, Karpo owns it) 😢 I would give anything to bring ‘Lil’s coupe back to So. Cal., blow it apart and restore it to exactly how it was originally built. I am not on FB. If it’s owner could email me at lightweightiseverything@gmail.com, maybe we could work something out.
