gardener here! the mistranslated name has always fascinated me!! bcs while jacob's ladder looks nothing like lily of the valley, there's another flower named after a bible verse that looks almost identical - solomon's seal. irl the plants are very different sizes, but with how it's rendered in the game it could easily translate as either plant. a mix up of bibilical proportions you could say.
I'm so confused that you can literally do nothing with them. You could pick them in New Leaf and wear them in your hair or put them in your house. I gave up asking why when it comes to Nintendo's choices in NH but... why aren't there any super rare DIYs that need Lilies of the Valley and why can't we put them in a vase, Nintendo? Somehow that seems like it would be an actual reward for maintaining the 5 Star island lol
@@valentine3519 I'm torn on that. I have 1500h in NH and 1200h in New Leaf and I love that you can always redesign something etc. but NH is seriously lacking any sort of long-term goals or activities aside from that. On the other hand once you have everything in NL, there's basically nothing more to do in that game.
I actually learned I'd reached a 5 star island because I ran across one of these on my island randomly. I hadn't checked with Isabelle in a while and assumed I was still at 4 stars, despite all my hard work placing fencing, items, more fencing...that is, until I logged on one morning and went about my dailies, only to come across a tiny, delicate, gorgeous lily-of-the-valley. It took me a few seconds to realize exactly what it meant, but once I did, I couldn't stop smiling. All my hard work, cumulating into a tiny little white flower, and yet it felt monumental. The single flower later turned into many, and it's still a special surprise to come across a new lily-of-the-valley dancing in the wind. If you've actually read this far...thanks! Exactly. I just created another comment saying they are your punishment for having a 5 star island, and that they are worse than weeds since they are harder to get rid of.
Ooh, good to know they appear on cliff edges! I'd noticed it seemed to be a pattern, but it's always nice to get confirmation. The spawn probability by day is useful info as well. Thanks for another great video!
@@aaadjfje same. Last time I checked it was 4* as well. Then I just stopped getting rid of the overgrown flowers. I honestly thought it was a seasonal kind of thing so I didn't pay close attention until this video pointed that info out.
There is a duplication trick which still works (as of right now) but you must have online to go to a friends island. I can't explain all of it because it is very complicated but there are plenty of guides on how to duplicate online
Wow! Amazing video! For those who need a written out guide to make a 5 star island, here's a SPOILER-FULL GUIDE! Ok, so first things first, 1. Get the museum building with Blathers: Donate at least 20-60 fossils, fish, bugs etc. When you've done this, after a day or two, expect a white and maroon building to take the small yellow tent's place. 2. Plant as many flowers as you can. This way, a lot of your island will be colorful, standing out from the rest. Which brings us to the third step. 3. Get K.K. at your island. If you're island has many flowers and trees, you should be set. 4. Get many villagers. If you visit a Nook Island, you might find a wanderer there. Talking to them will enable a question: "Should I move to your island?" Respond YES. Hope this helps! Enjoy your Lily of the Valleys!

Before I knew I had a 5 star rating, I woke up to one on my west cliff. I was so happy and excited that my hard work paid off. Now I have 15-20 around my island
I’ve gotten at least 5 lilies of the valley now and I’m glad you said that thing about putting them next to other flowers 💐 to spawn special flowers because it wasn’t working. 😜 I have just started playing this year and I am obsessed with this game and I need all the help and hints I can get and I like yours the best you seem to debunk the miths thanks 😌

I planted a TON of pumpkins and next thing I knew one of these flowers showed up. My sister had to Google it for me and tell me what it meant. I never even tried to get a 5 star island lol I just did whatever I liked. I was worried they'd stop growing after I got rid of most of my flowers/trees but nope. I still get these flowers

I had a 5 star island but then I flattened the entire island to completely remodel it. I was smart and saved some lilies because it’s gonna be a month or two before I get a 5 star island again

(3:50) yes I've reached a 5 star island 6 different times because I've completely flattened my island and got it back up to a 5 star (on the same island)
I was given a lily of the valley plant by a villager. Looked it up, and learned it was just for 5-Star islands. Confused, and thinking it was some kind of fluke, I planted it up in my cliffs. Fast-forward 6 weeks to two days ago… where I happened to accidentally learn from Isabelle… when I finally went to customize my island flag… that I was a 5-Star island. Duhhhhhhhhhhh
It's a little strange. I already got 5 star island, lots of lillys of the valley and now I'm back to 4 star and can't go back to 5star. Maybe there is too much diy recipes on the ground? I'm not sure. Glad I do not have a boom of this flower, like the others on my island
I had the same problem. I went and spoke with Isabelle about the Island evals and she told me there was too many items on the ground. I picked them up and BAM!... back to a 5 star island! You should go speak with her and see what she says. 😊
i think my island is 5 stars but I'm hesitant to check because then I've done everything there is to do, in terms of progress acknowledged by the NPC's

Woke up the other day, found the Lily, went and double checked my rating and it was at 4 lol no idea when I got a 5 star. Guess I should start checking daily on my rating lol
The time I wasn’t even trying to get a perfect rating compared to other games was the time they showed up. They’re everywhere on my island. Send help. They’re taking over
