00 gauge Lima model trains loco service guide updated for 2015
In this video we revisit my original video and guide for servicing Lima locos. • Lima Loco Service Guide
Lima service guide:
1drv.ms/b/s!Ap...
No subscription required just download the file.
My good friend and fellow train driver/ model railway enthusiast Bob brought his rather poorly Lima class 52 Western diesel loco to show me.
You get to meet both of us as we try his Western out and decide that it needs a full one off special Lima service.
Then, we go to my workshop to strip the loco right down, clean, enhance and lubricate every moving part as per my guide.
Follow each of the steps with us.
Then we try the loco out again and see how it now runs.
Many thanks to Bob for all his help today, it was a long process to film and produce everything so we really hope it will help others.
Love your Lima :)

Mike, just wanted to say a long overdue thank you. Over the last couple of years I've brought quite a few old lima locos back to life thanks to this video. A great help. I have stuff from my childhood running smoothly around the layout now. Cheers, keep up the great work on your other channel as well.

Not at all, I've developed a soft spot for Lima. I think people forget the contribution they made to the hobby. They produced a huge variety of locos and rolling stock. Not to mention the first ever Irish RTR loco.

Thank you Mike, too. Formerly I was neutral against Lima, but after your videos (too) I started to love them. They are very simple and practical constructions, but despite, their motor are strong. If you have "how to digitalisate your Limas" videos, too, I would interested in their. ;)

@@MikesMovies Thanks for responding Mike. I will certainly investigate Model Railways Unlimited. I'm a three-rail Dublo man, myself...and although I have done some cleaning and re-magging for Dublo, my eyesight and fingers are getting a bit limited now and I'm moving to O gauge as a way of off-setting that. I just have one O gauge example - the Fowler 4F. I don't want to invest in the wee bit of kit needed for Lima. I don't suppose I could tempt you to service for a fee? :)

HI Mike. Thanks for this vid, it's been really helpful. I model Germany in the late 70s early 80s and have picked up various old lima locos that were around in this period. They are all dc. I've opened one of my DB103s up to see how it looks, and its VERY similar to the layout of the loco you opened up to clean. However, i have a light at either end, as well as what appear to be resistors attached to the wires of the pickup on the opposite end to the motor. Im wanting to update these to DCC control and want to know if these resistors would these be safe to remove? I've not done a great deal of 'under the bonnet' work before and am a bit nervous. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Im happy to send some pics if this would help. Cheers Rod.
@MikesMovies
@MikesMovies 6 лет назад
Hi Rod, thanks so much for looking in, glad it was of help. I can't think why there would be resistors there??? are you sure they are not diodes for lights?

+Matthew Snowden Hi Matthew, glad to see you checking out my videos. I'd say don't be afraid, just make sure you have a clear area t work and some little containers to put bits in. The bits that are prone to flying off are the motor brush springs, so be careful with these. Go for it I'll always help if needed

Hi Mike, great vid. My Lima class 50 just stopped dead a couple of days ago. I followed your vid explicitly and put things back together without any spare parts! (That's a first) Now the loco will run about 10 inches and just stop again? No amount of prodding will get it going again. Take it off the track and put it on again some time later and .... Runs another 10 inches to a foot and stops? It does this both directions and no difference to speed. The contact bushes had quite a lot of meat left and the springs are good. Any ideas please? Thank you!
@MikesMovies
@MikesMovies 8 лет назад
+senseislayer Hmm, if you followed exactly and the brushes are fine, I really can't see what could be wrong. Not DCC is it? I'd be connecting a feed direct to the motor and seeing how it runs then. Did you grab a copy of the printed service guide?
