The decision was made to present a simplified description of a much more complex system using animations to construct a 3D image. Papez circuit is shown on gross specimens with mention of its involvement in memory. The role of the amygdala in fear and the olfactory cortex in temporal lobe epilepsy are described. The hippocampus from a brain with dementia is compared with a normal brain.

This is the best thing I've ever seen. I've been faking my way as an ad-hoc anatomist for many years, so this 3D, visuo-descriptive approach has really helped me solidify and enhance my understanding of structure and function. Thanks!

i suffer from severe anxiety that has totally disabled me. my grandfather also had it although he wasnt as disabled as i have been but then society was easier in his day. i am considering donating my brain for research as i would like it to help stop people suffering like i have. fascinating to see the amygdala
@Gabbargaamada
@Gabbargaamada 3 года назад
Amygdala alone will not help you curb anxiety.. Cortex also plays a huge role.. Cortex lesion or injury can completely eliminate anxiety or precipitate it 10x with or without amygdala. Just look up more on cortex, especially Dorsolateral, Ventromedial and Orbitofrontal sectors of Cortex.

I find it very interesting to follow the white matter tracts around to different parts of the greymatter.
@FutureAIDev2015
@FutureAIDev2015 7 лет назад
So it seems as though the white matter is largely meant for connecting different parts of gray matter together kind of like how cables inside a computer or bus wires inside a CPU connect different processing areas. is that correct? Does white matter do any processing of its own?
@ThomasJohnson219
@ThomasJohnson219 7 лет назад
White matter is primarily axons. White matter, therefore, is allowing for communication between different areas of grey matter.

Specimen shown between 4:40 - 5:31 and specimen introduced at 5:33 are not the same, even though you just simply say "flipping it over" at the changeover. In fact, they are completely the opposite. The first specimen is a right temporal lobe while the latter is a left temporal lobe (or the former is a right sagittal section (and that too somewhat mutilated - the brain stem has been ripped off) and the other a left sagittal section (with brain stem intact)). Your videos are good, in fact great, but I feel you should specifically mention this clearly. I don't mean to be mean or harsh, but I suggest you not try to hide it with an editing flash, because it can confuse viewers. It certainly did to me - strongly. But otherwise, thank you for the nice videos. They have been immensely helpful to me.
