For those who already have experience doing welding, this video is really simple. But you should start talking from basics, safety first, dos and don'ts, what to wear, etc. Talk @ all different type of rods. Thanks.
@Jeff McMurry...I hope you didn't give up welding altogether. Its a good hobby and with some good schooling to get your certs you can get a job in the welding field.
Many weld without gloves, particularly for short jobs as this. Especially those who work outdoors without glove a lot. Their tan means they won't get the uncomfortable "sunburn", the sparks from the welding really don't hurt at all.
people are dissing him for using 6011 on dc. 6011 runs great on dc . yes its is a ac rod but its not picky just like 6010. 6011 is tried and true ac. it actually runs a smoother weld on dc. but if you have dirty or rusty metal in the field. (workin on the tractor) i would keep to ac. burn the impurities out. its what the rod is designed for. or use the rod for root passes and follow with 7018. or 6013. though 6013 is not a great out of position rod.
+David Boyce ..agreed. i personaly dont like it but for newbies its really forgiving. easy strike with 6013. thats why i use 6011 for root passes. and 6013 stinks for vertical up. better to learn 7018. i hate how in these videos people poke start. strike scrape the rod. dont poke. 6011 is a bear to start if your work and rod and amps are cold.
Hello guys I have one of these welders acdc...bought it new like 15-20.yrs ago to make some Window gates for one of my apartments on ground floor then put it away for a few years then used it to make a Window ac...box...then recently this year in unpacked it noticed the fan died so I opened it up replaced the fan and it worked fine....and after welding foe a few months....it started making a cranking sound and died......The authorized Lincoln guy says transformer died and they don't make them any more but he will try to repair it, is it worth fixing? With all the new smaller welders now a days?
armando garcia ..Hey, armando can you show me a pic of the inside of your welder, how the fan is mounted.I got a welder that was dismounted and I have no idea how the fan is attached,,Thanks.
These are great welders, my only complaint on these is you can't fine tune the amperage, but if you're not doing anything super critical it doesn't really matter..
get a different machine for pipe. duty cycle is low on this model. the old buzz box is a champion. modern models they have cheaped out on. still good but duty cyle stinks. this is a hobby machine and i found u weld a few inches and then it shuts its self or the "arc force" begins to drop. then u have to let the machine rest with it on . so the fan runs
You need to leave your welder on after using it. You are shortening the lifespan by turning it off after using it. The welder has cooling fans for a reason and needs to cool down after you use it. You've got a two minute use 10 minute cooling cycle.
6011 is an AC rod not a dc rod . I have a welder just like it there a great welder, however ,yours is a lot cleaner and nicer than mine .Thanks for the video.
Your eyes hurt more than your hand without wearing a welding helmet.your eyes are more important.however wearing gloves is always a must unless you are just tack welding with mig or tig.you aren't exposed to the arc as much with mig or tig.if you are trying to get a good feel with what you are welding yeah wouldn't hurt welding without gloves..but this is just a personal preference.and going by the book.or from what I've read anyway
