"One day in sacrament meeting I was worked up about some doctrinal question and the frustration of still not feeling I could get answers to prayer very well. They had announced the closing hymn was "How Firm A Foundation" which is precious to me, I had memorized all 7 verses. As soon as that was announced I had a question in my mind "Heavenly Father, I am believing and I am going, but what do I believe?" I felt the Lord bring into my memory "fear not I am with thee for be not dismayed, for I am thy God and will still give the aid." With that came the gift of peace right in that moment."

Thank you for your podcast. It really helped me on this Sunday Feb. 26 ,2023. My h.usband left the Church and we struggled talking about our belief in the nature of the Godhead and the nature of God. I liked your guest when she said "They would have to hit me with a 2x4 to leave this Church." That's how I feel.This podcast tonight really helped

Oh man. I think that phrase, “That’s between her and Me” is some of the direction I needed to navigate better my wife’s faith journey.

"How do you deal with family members who leave the Church?" I claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of my own conscience, and I allow you the same privilege. I let you worship how, where, or what you may. That statement has helped me.

Just the idea that you have to deal with others making their own choices is weird. People have every right to believe what they want. Why do Mormons get so angry when their kids or relatives leave?
@myronrichardson3291
@myronrichardson3291 Год назад
@@lukev483 Why does a Harvard graduate get upset when his son chooses to go to Yale? Why does a Marine officer get upset when his son chooses to join the Air Force? Why does a Jew get upset and consider his child dead when he or she chooses to become a Christian? Why do some Muslims kill their children if they choose to abandon Islam? You're right. It IS weird. But it is human nature. That might be part of why Joseph Smith included it in the 11th Article of Faith. That certainly helped me when I was faced with that situation.

@ 30:10 she said God told her that her daughters rebelion is between God n the daughter. I had a similar experience with my inactive wife..God told me to work on my own shortcomings and he will work on my wife..2nd Nephi 27:21 ..I am able to do my own work.. This is awesome, as parents and friends we need to get rid of the judging and criticism, focus on our own sins and just love others.

Another excellent podcast. I loved the analogy of the garden. We can do all the things to make the garden grow but it's God that does it!

Lynda, the true Jesus is in you, you have the capability to be a light to others thanks for sharing i am older than you born in the church which I am so thankful have a long line of ancestors, that were church founders,I have had doubts, what has helped me is that I was born into a LDS family,that’s, I believe where he wants me and because I have seen alot of miracles through the priesthood power and having my spirit testify to me ( myself)to my flesh body, Hard to explain, we were sent to earth with a spark of divinity, that divinity speaks to our earthly body, I will always be a Latter Day Saint. Your testimony will help many❤

The analogy that faith and belief is a choice rings true. Not believing is the easier path because it takes away expectations and when God is taken out of the picture we are at the mercy of Satan who is merciless. Often a snide ridiculing attitude replaces what once was a light filled sweet demeanor. I really love this sisters garden analogy and when she had the startling 2:00 A.M. anxiety attack she chose to be patient in allowing the Lord to guide her through the process. Leaning on past spiritual experiences can help at times when we feel abandoned by God, beset with trials too hard to handle, or filled with doubt and unanswered questions. And I loved Brother Halverson's statement on treatment of family members who have left the church. Just think of them all as investigators of the church. That way you behave cheerful, loving, kind, thoughtful, and accepting of them as sons and daughters of God. Hand them to God. He will teach them in His own way.

You’ve got to let your daughter find her own way after all the the church was your choice not hers so she’s got to come to a place where she can make the church her choice it’s a part of becoming an adult, when she was a child you made all her decisions for her, now she has to take the rains don’t make her feel guilty about leaving the church respect her decisions and with lots of patience and prayer she may come around, but remember we can not pray away someone else’s free agency! You are in my prayers 🙏

This was wonderful, and I can relate to Linda's story so much! One thing I've discovered with my journey with faith is that the Lord is eager to communicate with us, and that sometimes if we feel dense and He can't get through one way, He will try another. And it might not be the way we think He should, but if we are watching and hoping for answers, and are humbly trying to do the work, with contrition, and a desire to do His will, He will meet us where we are and show us He is speaking! Thank you Ashly, and thank you Linda for sharing your story.

I’m glad you did share this story. Actually, the church has allowed persons who are members and are qualified educationally to teach at BYU, who turn out to be overly liberal. The saying got to be something like, “ you go to church to gain a testimony, and go to BYU to lose it”. The church truely is for everyone, but there are some professors who criticize our church leaders. I was troubled by this, but just because they speak against our leaders, doesn’t mean they are correct!

@lindaayre
@lindaayre Год назад
When I was attending, these classes didn’t have titles and I don’t feel comfortable sharing the names of the men, but their focus is on the doctrine of Christ and the “path of ascension”. They teach that the baptism of fire is a very specific experience in which one feels or sees fire and that if we haven’t had it, our sins have not been remitted and we are under condemnation. I don’t want to go into it more, but that should give you enough to be aware of red flags.

The question should be: Why did a person join a cult in the first place? Rather than why they chose to leave then go back to it. Clearly a matter of mind control of of the highest order! Brain washed! People born into the church have often not been exposed to living outside the cult, because that is all they have ever known. Of course, the church has its good points, but there are some very serious aspects that impact members ability to think for themselves. Being attracted to the fellowship of the group can be difficult to resist for most. No wonder people have problems when they try to leave, after having every aspect of their lives catered to, they tend to have difficulty standing on their own two feet, and feel their world collapsing beneath them. John Dehlin does a great service to such individuals on Mormon Stories.

Your comment is very speculative. I’d bet they thought it was less expensive to pay the fine than to fight it. If you read in to the report further there is a grey area in reporting stocks for a 501C3.
