Lindy Fralin Pickups - Vintage Output Tele Replacements vs. Overwound (HD)

In this video, famed guitar pickup winder Lindy Fralin personally demonstrates a set of his stock output Tele style replacement pickups against a set of his 5%/2% overwinds. This comparison is not scientific but it was recorded in a controlled environment with virtually no enhancement. The signal path for this demo was as follows:
Guitar, VVT Lindy Fralin model amp with 1/15", SM57 mic'ed about 18" off the grill cloth, RNC Compressor, Mackie XDR preamp, Apogee Duet, Logic Pro on a Macbook Pro. The signal was recorded dry although a very slight amount of compression was added to reduce clipping and a slight plate reverb was added in Logic Pro for spatial enhancement. Otherwise the sound you hear is the pure, unaltered sound of the pickups through the amp with the volume set on about "3". Learn more about these pickups at www.fralinpickups.com

Ordered a set of lefty LF Tele Blues this week...I suspect 9 years later that they are the 'Overwound'? Should improve my CV50's tone...can't wait. Thanks.

Wine red is such a classy colour, however I prefer lighter hues of red especially when they’re almost either pink or orange.

Hello! Mr. Fralin, best pickups! I have a Fender Tele Baja, and i love this sound... I want put your pickups in my tele Fender American Deluxe, with a similar sound of Baja (good clean), what would you recommend? Stock? thanks!

Out of curiosity, is that "red" Telecaster a Crimson Red Metallic color? It definitely does not look like Candy Apple Red or Dakota Red. I like both sets of pickups- can't tell which I like better.

+Brad Dietz I think Fender calls it wine red. Both pickup sets are in the right guitar for them, the wine red is a darker guitar and the butterscotch is ash and maple, a brighter guitar.

+Lindy Fralin Oh, the Wine Red. Up close on a different monitor it looked different. I may prefer the 5% over. Today. So hard to decide without just trying trying a set. Thanks!

Which one I prefer changes with my mood lol but I think I like the clean sound of the original best. 2% bridge and stock neck would be interesting to hear

yeah....they are known for it. Go online about it and you'll find some good advice on how to minimise or cut it out. good luck. I'm about to do the same.
