If you put it in the tape echo mode, and do infinite repeats and put the delay time all the way counter clockwise, you get this crazy alien signal noise and its great.
I noticed you changed the switches. Good choice. I had to get mine changed when one the switches stopped working. Anyone with a DL4 should consider getting better quality SPST style switches. They will never fail you. The original switches in the DL4 are comprised of 3 parts. 1) The metal casing of the switch itself, 2) a plastic piece underneath that engages the button, and 3) the button that turns on the unit. It's overcomplicated and in my opinion a big flaw in its design. Still though, it is an unbelievable pedal.
Mine is 12 years old.. Got it pretty much when it first came out if im not mistaken.. Still works perfectly.. Beat this thing to hell too.. Such a good pedal to learn about what adjustments make differences and how many amazing delays that have been out
Good, fun sounding stuff! .. If you like pushing buttons, twisting knobs, moving sliders, etc.. you can get the greatest collection of sounds like you've never heard you might want to try a synth like the Roland sh201.. it has analog type controls without using a bunch of menus, etc. (For me personally, the LCD menu selection system can be a pain and take time.. something you want may be deep in the bowels of the hierarchy.) The Juno isn't as bad as some, but for something not so expensive, quick and easy that's a lot of fun try the Roland. With all the arpeggios, etc. you can play with one finger! Don't worry about being a keyboard whiz, a creative person can do a lot with a little!
Another really cool trick is if you set your DL4 to the digital delay with mod (or any delay with mod, if I'm not mistaken), and turn your delay time down, your mix all the way up, and adjust your tweak and tweez knobs, you can get a nice chorus, or even a slight Leslie sound out of it. I love the DL4, so many possibilities, and endless tweaking fun!
I usually like making this sound with the DL4 but i can't handle the volume increase while it oscillates. The el cap does a better job oscillating while controlling the volume.
Great video! I was just trying this out and got pretty good sounds when using the Multihead Echo. But, on the other settings you recommend (low-fi and analog with mod) I wasn't getting any sound at all. Any idea why that would be?
Sweet stuff man. Quick question regarding the dl4: When you save a model onto one of the three buttons and then go back to it at a later time, does it keep the same settings that you had on it originally? (Tweak, tweez, etc).
Can other delay pedals produce "infinity style" delay effects? Or is it only the Line-6 DL4? It was the only delay pedal I ever owned, but now it's busted. I'm trying to decide if I should replace it or try something different.
Damn not sure between this and the memory man they both are amazing but sort of do the same thing. Is there a cheaper pedal that does the same also these are expensive for starting a pedal board
+puppie110112 i would suggest playing around with the pedal. you'll be inspired and amazed at all the different options and voicings it offers. There is a "swell" setting but it's more of a simulated volume pedal IMO ... i do like it however. experiment and have fun !!!
cooler effects would be if it actually was generated by the guitar to be really musically usable no? or else just get some samples and play them through acid program...
