Hey! Really long video ahead. The Premium Amp Tone bundles are my best shot at recreating a couple of my all-time favorite rigs. They're meant to cover your needs for clean to medium/high gain tones and everything in between. Feel free to skip around using the timestamps below: 0:00 - Introduction 5:01 - Mesa Boogie LoneStar (low & high gain) 11:12 - 1959 Fender 5E3 Tweed Deluxe (clean platform & cranked) 16:45 - Dumble (Steel String Singer & Overdrive Special) 23:20 - Magnatone Twilighter (vintage & reissue) 27:59 - Vox AC30 (vintage & modern) 31:20 - Outro Premium Amp Tones are for when you need to get past the difficult process of designing amp and overdrive tones that are versatile and can be trusted across different performance scenarios. On the HX Stomp, these presets will consume all 6 blocks, so ideally you would be using it with other external pedals if you need modulation, delay, or other effects. On the larger Helix units, you now have a solid foundation that you can customize and move in any direction. Available at - www.alexpricemusician.com/helix

It's really cool that you can emulate the parallel overdrive and compression qualities of the Dumble amps in the Helix. I'm learning so much about it

Great job. Excellent and comprehensive use of all of the Stomp's capabilities to get great amp tones. One little nitpick: the optical trem is the Fender circuit, the Bias trem is the Vox I think...

These are among the most beautiful and authentic sounding presets I've found for the Stomp. Plus, the use of the foot switches is well thought out - I can tell a LOT of time went into their design. I can get any tone I want out of just a couple of presets per amp, which is awesome. These are equally useful for recording or live use. I started with the Dumble and Mesa Booge, but I'll be buying more. Highly recommended!!

Buen trabajo y me estaré atento a nuevo contenido. Saludos

You used the single coil optimized Steel String Singer preset with your PRS Humbuckers :)
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 3 года назад
Haha I noticed that as I was editing the video. I couldn’t be bothered to go back, but I know a lot of people use them interchangeably. If you want more gain and a thicker tone, use the single coil option on your humbucker guitar. If you want it cleaner and a little more trebly, do use the humbucker option with a single coil guitar.

Bro! This is seriously impressive! Are you using an frfr, direct, or something else?
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 4 года назад
A bit of everything. A few of the presets I had built while sitting at the FOH desk in the Queen Mary’s theater after hours. Some of them were made on my studio monitors when I got home. I usually plug straight into the soundboard when I play out live. All of these presets have been tested on a couple different systems and have been refined a few times over the course of a couple months.

@@AlexPriceMusician right on. I have an old solid state Yamaha amp. I completely bypass the preamp and go straight into the fix return, the highly transparent sound seems more important than almost any other factor. Idk, but it works great for me... I would like to do some side by side comparisons. Anyway, I've said it before, there are very few folks out there making the most of the helix,s potential. Much appreciated.
@AlexPriceMusician

@@ghost79ish Thanks so much Ian! I have plans for a video where I demonstrate and provide template presets for a bunch of different ways to use the Helix - straight into an FRFR, into the front of an amp, into the fx loop of an amp, direct to the board while at the same time running into an amp on stage, etc.

Alex Price hi. I too use a stomp into the fx return of a Roland blues artist. Am looking at the dumble presets. Do you think they would need tweaking and if so what parameters? Also quick question! What mode do you use for the presets? Guess it’s stomp mode?
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 4 года назад
@@willrowe9920 Hi Will! If you'll be running these presets into the fx return of an amp, then the only thing you'll need to do is just get rid of the cab simulation. On the Premium Amp Tones I prefer to use separate amp and dual cab blocks so it's easy. And yes, they all operate in stompswitch mode since that way you can make different combinations of footswitches to get more tones. In some cases, I will use the level parameter on the cab blocks for things like a solo boost with FS3 or sometimes to lower the volume when I'm boosting the drive in the amp head. You might want to take that parameter adjustment and apply it to the compressor block at the end of the chain or the output block.

Man that ac30 fawn sounds amazing!! Definitely picking this up!! Is there a way to use this in snapshots so I’m able to have effects like revers and delay also?
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician Год назад
Thanks Christopher! Setting up snapshots to control reverb and delay is easy on the larger Helix units. On the smaller HX Stomps, you’ll want to go into command center and repurpose footswitch 4+5 for snapshot up and down. Then you’ll still have footswitches 1-3 controlling overdrive and boost.

Great work! Gonna have to get some of these for sure! When you demo the tweed and the dumble you were on the single coil versions. Still sounded great. But, I assume the humbucker versions are a touch brighter with maybe a touch less drive? Would love to see what you can come up with using full floor/lt/native block numbers
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 4 года назад
I noticed that as I was editing haha. I always make different versions of the same presets idealized for single coils and humbuckers but it's not really a rule which one to use. You're right - for example plugging into the single coil presets with a higher output humbucker just means you'll be getting a slightly warmer and more overdriven tone. And the opposite with single coils. I usually have differences in the sag and bias controls too. I find that they make a huge difference.
@bergie450

@@AlexPriceMusician absolutely, they both have uses with either style of pickup. Any chance of adding these to your sampler pack so i can just buy everything in a mega pack?
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 4 года назад
Nah that’s kind of a different thing. The Library Sampler pack is a more loose collection of whatever I personally come up with for my own use, or for presets that I choose to feature in the more educational-type Helix Tips videos. Odds and ends. The smaller packs are much more organized and dialed in for all sorts of rigs so they can be a universal fit for anyone. They’re also a lot more involved with parameter changes. Thanks for your support Erick!

Hi Alex, inspired to buy HX thanks to you.. I was wondering, will this premium tone goes well in front of the amp or should I go direct to mixer ?
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 2 года назад
Hi Barry - these presets are designed to head from the HX Stomp or Helix directly to the FOH console or recording interface. Essentially they are made to replace your amp / overdrive pedals and go direct instead.

I reworked these presets when the new cab engine was released in 2022, then created a third preset for each of these 5 bundles. I don't have any updated videos demoing them but there's information on my website that runs through what's new about them. www.alexpricemusician.com/product-page/helix-dumble-premium-amp-tone

These sound great! For us HX Stomp only users, how do you have the 5 foot switch options set up?
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 4 года назад
Thanks Ryan! The footswitches are rigged up as noted in this video. I've designed the presets on the HX Stomp. Here's a general rule of thumb: FS1 - overdrive pedal FS2 - increased amp drive FS3 - solo boost FS4 - reverb, tremolo, vibrato, etc. FS5 - reverb, tremolo, vibrato, etc. . So, FS 1 & 2 work on gain staging. FS 4 & 5 are meant to provide extra features that may be characteristic of the amp that I'm trying to emulate. There's a ton of information at www.alexpricemusician.com/helix Thanks!

Are those presets usable with Helix Native ?
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 2 года назад
You can load them in, but Helix Native is set up default to work with snapshots and at the moment these presets are set up only in footswitch mode. I'll be coming out with an update for these presets soon to fix that issue.

Why do all of the tones sound dark and muddy?
@AlexPriceMusician
@AlexPriceMusician 3 года назад
Probably because I’d assume you’re not listening on a PA System at 90+ decibels. These tones were designed for being used at high volumes on a professional sound system. If you design a tone to sound good at a comfortable level with headphones, desktop speakers, mixing monitors, or on a phone then chances are low that it will translate well for live use.
