I do this with mine and my rhythm players podgo's we send the L main out to my FOH mixer and the amp out to our stacks ran through the return. Great way to keep the feel and get a great mix out front 🤘🏻

Since I have an XLR balanced output from the back of my amp with a built-in speaker, emulation, I was planning to just use that and turn off the Amp and cabinet emulations in the Pod go (or use a preamp only and go in through the effects loop). Hope it works. I’m still waiting for my pod. Go to arrive.

Yup, that should work. I do the same when I use my Koch Studiotone combo amp. It has a “recording out” that captures the exact total signal chain coming from the amp. Definitely a much easier set up 👌

Keep playing around with it. Try different cabs with amps you like, try different mice on the cabs, try stacking overdrives...so many tonal possibilities. The Gary Moore preset is still a work-in-progress :)

So...run the L/R outs via balanced TRS/male cable to FOH. Run the AMP OUT SOURCE in "Pre Cab/IR" mode to the RETURN of any amp you're using. Volume is then controlled solely by POD GO at this point, yes? I've never done it...always run straight to FOH through two FRFR 108's. Works great but I'm tired of lugging those FR's with me on fly gigs.

You can have the Volume Knob control the Main Outs and the Amp Out volumes. Just go to the Global Settings - Ins/Outs - then go to the "Volume Knob" option and select "Both".

Hi Josh, very helpful video. I just got my Pod Go wireless and a Boss Katana and was really confused about how to set it up, but this helped a ton. Is using the main out to the FX return on the back of the Katana the same results? Line 6 doesn't do a great job of explaining this to new users. Also, would I set my Boss Katana on the clean setting when running both the amp out and main outs (front of house) together?
@JoshGordonGuitar
@JoshGordonGuitar Год назад
Thanks for watching! To be honest, I don't know the BOSS Katana amps and their capabilities. However, when I run my POD Go to the FX send/return loop on my tube combo amp it renders the amp's controls "useless" in a sense. Basically, the amp just becomes a speaker cab and its volume/EQ etc controls can't be used. All your control come from the POD Go with this connection. I would run the Katana clean because I would be using the PDO Go for things like overdrive or distortion. But you can try different setting on your Katana to determine what sounds best to you. Hope this was somewhat helpful :)

Hi Josh, thanks for the informative video. I hope your community can help me out! I am using my Pod Go along with a real Marshall Silver Jubilee 2525H and matching Cab 2536A 212, I want the best quality over the PA as well in addition to my Marshall including the Cab. I use the 4 cable method, the blocks Amp/Preamp and Cab/IR on the Pod Go are deactivated, my signal chain is as follows: Guitar In Pod Go - Pod Go Effects (Compressor, Distortion) - FX Send Pod Go - Front Input Marshall - FX Send Marshall - FX Return Pod Go - Pod Go Effects (Chorus, Delay, Reverb) - Amp Out Pod Go (Main Out Setting) - FX Return Marshall. The normal Main Out (Mono) is coupled to the PA. Is this procedure recommended? Are there any problems with this setting? Should I rather pick up my Marshall including Cab with a microphone? I look forward to a feedback, thank you!
@JoshGordonGuitar
@JoshGordonGuitar Год назад
Great question, and I hope some people chime in on this. To be honest, I don't have much experience with the 4 cable method. My greatest tone success has been running the PG straight into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and using the PG as a pedalboard. I have gigged with a Headrush 108 FRFR and the Powercab 112. Both were okay and I also ran each one into the PA. But honestly, the best tone to my ears was using the Hot Rod Deluxe. Yes, my set up eliminates the Amp and Cab blocks on the PG. But the tone is Devine just using the PG effects. However, I am working towards a better set up with the Powercab. The Powercab 112 (not the plus) has 6 speaker voicing and also a flat FRFR mode. I did a gig with it and the tone wasn't bad. But again, still working on it. My ultimate goal is to have a live rig based around the Powercab with a speaker voicing from it...to give it the "amp in the room" feel...and also a lighter rig...and easier load in / tear down.
@rodrigoschneider3997
@rodrigoschneider3997 Год назад
@@JoshGordonGuitar Thanks for the quick reply, the Hot Rod Deluxe is a great amp. I also want to use my Pod Go as a pedalboard only. I use the 4 cable - method so I can also use effects before and after my real Amp and Cab. In the new constellation, the sound is excellent. Previously I always played directly into the PA, everything digitally through the Pod Go, I was just not 100% satisfied. Eventually I'll try it like you and go after the Pod Go directly into the real Amp and Cab. I wonder if the same "excellent" signal arrives in the PA via (Main Out), or something is left out? It sounded very similar, but I'm just not sure. An answer would be important for me to give the sound engineer the correct information about my setup.

@@rodrigoschneider3997 Honestly, I haven’t tried the Main Out to a PA when running the Amp Out to my HR Deluxe. The reason being I would still have the amp block running to my HR Deluxe. I have tried running a Powercab 112 out to a PA. Sounds pretty good coming through the speaker for me to hear as well as coming through the PA.

@@JoshGordonGuitar Hi Josh, thanks for the reply, now that I have enabled the CAB virtually in my Pod Go it now works, also I put CAB and Amp at the end of the signal chain. Additionally I bought the same IR to my real CAB. My real amp is at Amp Out which was set to Pre Cab/IR. Via Main Out (Mono) I go to the PA, also all effects are active. I hope this information is helpful for your community I always had a decibel boost for solos at the end of the signal chain for Main Out, via a footswitch. Can I somehow use this in front of my real amp, so that it also gets louder?
@pueblobordi1112
@pueblobordi1112 Год назад
This really helped. Just had a question, I am using the amp out going into a effects loop return on a combo amp, also using the main outs. The combo amp is louder than the powered speakers I am running the main outs to, even with the powered speakers up all the way. I am trying to boost the signal on the main outs and not the amp out on the POD GO. I noticed the global EQ only works on the main outs. Should I use it to boost the volume on the main outs of the POD GO. The other option would be to lower the amp out volume out of the POD GO but not sure there is a way to do that.
@JoshGordonGuitar
@JoshGordonGuitar Год назад
You could set the Volume knob on the POD GO to just control the Main Outs and not the Amp Out. Using the Global EQ to try and boost volume probably won’t give you the result you want. The EQ is for cutting or increasing frequencies. Don’t think it will help with your volume issue. If your set up allows for you to control the Amp Out signal with your real amp’s volume then I would do that and have the PG’s Volume just controlling the Main Out. Thanks for watching 🙏
@pueblobordi1112
@pueblobordi1112 Год назад
@@JoshGordonGuitar Thanks for the response, using the return on the combo amp does not allow for any volume control at the amp, I think it goes to the power amp for this combo amp. I am getting a pretty good tone out of it. I could run the amp out signal from the POD Go into the front of the amp, just on a clean setting with a flat response (combo amp) to get a volume control at the amp. I am not sure if this would compromise the tone, going through the pre-amp of the combo amp with the POD Go-amp out signal. I have the POD Go amp out sending the signal just before the cab block, I think.
@JoshGordonGuitar
@JoshGordonGuitar Год назад
@@pueblobordi1112 Yes, I’ve also tried using an amps fx loop and didn’t like that the amp’s controls couldn’t be used. I prefer to run into the front of the amp so that the amp’s reverb can save me a block (assuming your amp has reverb) and the amp’s onboard EQ controls and such can allow for even greater tone shaping. Good luck 👍🤟

@@JoshGordonGuitar Thanks for the response. I am using an old line 6 Bogner single 12 combo-digital amp with tubes in it. The signal goes through the digital signal processing section before the tubes, so it has a bunch of digital effects. There is probably a way to shut off all the effects and set it up with a flat frequency response.

Hey Josh, I can back to this video to understand more about my setup. Currently, I have my main outs going to a mixing board and from the mixing board I have 2 powered speakers. If I run the Amp out to my Boss Katana, like you did in this video, do I need to make sure the Amp is set to a clean sound, so I am not duplicating FX? I am playing my first gig this summer at 4th party (very small backyard with friends) and my plan to use the Pod Go connected to mixing board, along with a mic for the singer. The mixing board will have 2 speakers as the output. With that setup, would I even need the amp in mix? Thanks!
@JoshGordonGuitar
@JoshGordonGuitar 6 месяцев назад
Yes, I would set your Katana amp to clean. For your party, you probably don’t need any extra monitors with your proposed set up. But having one in addition to the 2 PA speakers wouldn’t hurt either.

@steviesavage
@steviesavage Год назад
For me, the main issue with the Pod Go is that there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust the level of the Amp output. This means that it can't used it with my real amp because the Pod Go is going into my amps return on full blast, which is unusable! I've thought about buying an inline attenuator, but the idea of the Pod Go is its portability so I don't want to start adding other crap to my set up! Hoping there is a solution to this that I'm not aware of, but I haven't been able to find it yet.
@JoshGordonGuitar
@JoshGordonGuitar Год назад
🤔 I’ll check on this at some point. In the Global Settings - Ins/Outs there’s an Amp Out Source option where you can select Main Outs…so the Amp Out mirrors the Main Out. Have you tried that?
@steviesavage
@steviesavage Год назад
@@JoshGordonGuitar if I do that, I'll lose the option to exclude the Cab block from the output, which defeats the object. What’s the benefit of running the pre-cab fx and such to the amp? Wouldn’t you just want all the delay and reverb effects to go to the amp too?
@JoshGordonGuitar
@JoshGordonGuitar 11 месяцев назад
I can’t say what “benefit” it is…it just allows you to have the FX to hit the amp and also be available to the Main Out (which may go to your PA) 😁🤘 But if I didn’t want something like the Reverb block hitting my amp because it already has reverb on it then I would put the Reverb block after the pre-cab/IR block

I’m using this method since one year now. I guess No matter if it’s L or R out. I setup the way that amp out goes to the power amp with a cab and single main out goes to my bands mixer - from there we send the personalized mix into IEM. Now I’m thinking od the option if it’s hard to travel with the cab, to use only main out L and R. One would go as mentioned to our mixer wchich always goes with us and the other one to the FOH. But I’m not sure how do the mono/stereo thing work if i connect 2 cables to the main out.. wouldn’t the sound change i any matter then?

I've been using this (or a similar) method for a while; pre-amp to real amp with my Cab block at the end. I connect my Amp Out to the Return of my amp so as not to double up on the preamps and it also bypasses the amp EQ dials. On my Main Out, the Cab block is enabled but instead of staying with the preamp, I created another preset that contains the 'Amp' block. Couple of questions to you... For the Amp Out, are you bypassing your amp preamp like mine and running through the amp Return? Should I consider just using preamp blocks through Main Out with the Cab block enabled or does it matter?
@JoshGordonGuitar
@JoshGordonGuitar Год назад
In this video I ran the Amp Out right into my tube amp’s Input. Everything before the Cab block went directly into the combo tube amp…preamp included. Because I used a PREAMP instead of an AMPLIFIER block. The preamp block helped colour the sound I wanted.
