That was exactly my reaction when a friend of mine wanted to get together and use these pens. After watching this I made the purchase which was actually very minimal in comparison to my other water media. Can't wait till they arrive.
These Elegant Writer pens are excellent for window panes. Draw a rectangular frame with inner and outer lines. Then drag on the inner line with a damp brush to give the appearance of glass.
Wonder if this is related to the books we got as kids. They came with line drawings in & you just used a brush with water only, “painted” the water over the picture & lots of colours appeared! Made you feel very clever! Loved them.
My husband got me a pack of 12 elegant writer, and brush pens for lettering. And here I am looking at tutorials about elegant writer and they are amazing!!
WOW! Don't you just love when you find a product that has unexpected, magical properties? I wonder what the coloured ones would produce? Thanks so much to Rose, for bringing them to your attention and in turn sharing with all of us, Paul! ✨
Thanks Gina - Yup, I might be tempted to get the coloured set just to see what happens ... probably turn black!?!! - btw I knew you where from Canada ....just testing! 😊
Well I just got a different set of pens 2 weeks ago. Ahem, I love pens, markers and pencils. But i had forgotten I watched this video about the elegant writer. I would have gotten these first. I got the set of 4 ordered. Now to have the fun. We all need something to ease the anxiety of this pandemic. That's when I began the watercolor journey and my intro into you Paul. So thank you for the help and the fun
I’m so excited you renewed my interest in the Elegant Writer. If you want to set the ink you can lightly spritz it from a distance and it will not really run but it will set the ink. Also once you have wet it and it dries, it is not re-wet-able. At least that has been my experience. LOVE your videos! 💕
Oh so pleased to see you using the elegant writer , and for the wee videos champion best wishes everyone looking forward to seeing some more beautiful pieces too
I just started viewing... not an artist, 68 gramma... I loved your paintings on your webpage and put your blue door on my phone screen. I kept looking at it for a few days... then I started to draw it with a pencil ... so for 1st time in ? Years I just did your blue door with pencil. I'll have to ask grandchildren for paint! This may just be an answer to prayer. I enjoy all your videos and funny whit. I'm half English... never been but love the Beautiful buildings, castles, scenery... I also watch the Nat.l Archives videos... Thank you so very much!
Wow! Absolutely amazing! Many thanks to both you and Rose for bringing this to our attention! I'll definitely be buying one for myself and a second for my seven-year old granddaughter who just LOVES drawing and painting. She'll go bananas! 🍌
paul, I have just stumbled on your videos and I am a huge fan now! as for the Elegant Writer..I have used the black pen, but have been told the colored pens do not work the same..save your money just get the black! Linda from Canada
Woah thank you for sharing this secret. It reminds me of the new Kuretake Gansai Tambi granulating watercolour paints the green/pink Aurora 5 pan set - sold out fast on Amazon a few months ago... now back in stock if you are interested and had not seen☺ Your creativity reminds me of the much missed Tony Hart.
Hi Paul. whithout you and this video I would never will have known that these Writer exists. I ordered them instantly, they are even on sale just this month at an art supply seller here in Germany. Thank you so much for this ... and all your further videos here, I love them, though I don't write a comment unter eery clip, sorry this would take too much time which I rather spend with drawing durig watching your lessons. Kind regards from Germany and have a good time, the same way Rose 😊 Nick
Fantastic!!! I think I'm going to have to rethink my retirement. I'm buying painting supplies like mad and I promised myself no more for a while and now this...... off to the art store I go.
Wow! So beautiful! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience with us. I am so glad I recently discovered your You Tube Videos. I love line and wash and it seems to be my strength. Wish you were closer to America and I would be in ALL of your classes! Blessings! Oh!, and yes, I just ordered the pens! LOL
Well Paul, you made me buy them. Haaa, haaa. Thank you for this inspiring demo. It's always so much fun to discover a new art supply. Can't wait till they arrive.
This brings back memories from chemics class, we did chromatography experiments with water soluble ink like this, making the different dyes they contained show up like in these drawings of yours!
No words to describe ur wee videos sir. U r simply awesome not only in ur painting skills but to look at also. Thank you for ur you tube with which I have known abt a great teacher.
You can do the same thing with a set of washable kids’ markers, like Crayola. The black produces a stunning Prussian blue. So fun! Thinking of teaching this to my second graders this coming school year. They’ll flip their lids! 😊
Very nice!!! I ordered your book yesterday. From Canada the shipping is triple the cost of the book, but I consider it an early birthday gift to myself! Can’t wait to receive it. Thank you for your videos. They give me so much joy, especially during these tough times. Stay safe!
I have watched your tutorials many times and I have to say....YOU ARE AMAZING,,You have an exciting presentation and a wonderful ability to teach. Your imagination with painting and life makes me Happy and I thank you for that!! Cheryl Martin..... Georgia!!
I have an addiction. It's RU-vid. One video leads to another. I watched Paul Clark do a line and wash with Elegant Writer Calligraphy pens. That led to more videos on Elegant Writer pens and then Google searches to find the science behind these amazing pens. When you wet them, the bleed teal and pink. Once dry the lines are permanent, never to bleed again. I didn't find the answer right away, but I did learn the black is made up of the teal and magenta. When water is added, the colors are apparent. More water and lifting reveal the pink.
Learned about this from the late great Karlyn Holman. Search for her take on it here on youtube. I loved her generous laidback style just as I love yours, Paul! Much love from Norway :)
I’ve only recently discovered EW pens but am obsessed with them. I have just ordered some coloured ones too. I’ve been commissioned to do an elephant one for a friend. Happy days!
Love your style. I subscribed and just learned line and wash, I LOVE it. Have been watercoloring for years now and always felt something was missing, it was LINE!! I am excited to learn more.
Paul, Thank you for the intro to these pens. I of course have one on the way from Amazon now. Lol And since RU-vid is always at my beckoned call, it prompted another video on the subject. I’m not tech savvy enough to link the video, but if you or your audience might be interested, there’s a sweet artist who has a few tricks up her sleeve. In the search bar, type what’s below & it should pop up…. Cheap Joe’s Elegant writer Karlyn Holman Thanks again- Angie, from Texas
Picked up pack to try it and did up a silly elephant line drawing and sure enough, blue-green with random pink!! What fun!! Great tip (got your book in today so I'm quite keen - lovely texture to the cover)!!
Wow, I may have to get these and have some fun, thanks for the demonstration Paul 💜💜😁🎨 BTW, I think these pens are way better than watercolor pencils for sure 😎 Oh, and thank Rose too 👍
Glad you like them! - really great fun. I found it amazing that you can go all these years being involved with art without ever hearing of them! - we all never stop learning!
Hi Alan - I've not tried the coloured ones but I've heard from some who have tried them and apparently they don't do the same thing!! - so I would just get the black and use your coupon for something else!!!
@@ArtbyPaulClark Thanks Paul, the coupon is in an app on my phone so I can use it once a day. (The store isn't far.) I am really enjoying your book " Watercolour Techniques and Tutorials for the Complete Beginner".
Well! THANKYOU for this! I had no idea this pen existed! It’s magic! I bet King Splat and salt will be in your future with this pen! I’m going to sure try it! Happy finds🙂
Absolutely stunning! 💥 I ordered it straight away and can't wait to start using it. Thanks, Paul, for sharing with us this wonderful item. May I ask what brush you use? I'm looking for a round brush without a fine tip.
I have an Elegant Writer that I don't use often. It's cheap compared to some other art supplies I have. I like the effect water has on the ink. Edit I like making atcs - artist trading cards, and I've used my EW to make some of those.
