I had intended to watch your live, but didn't make it. My infrastructure is not complete yet, so I make sure I don't have any kidding before March. I know, we can still have bad weather in March, but not nearly as much as we do in February.
Ugh. Glad you were there! 3 hours beats the alternative, but I’m sure it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
I had a person who promotes themselves as an "expert" tell me that I should be weighing my kids every day to be sure they are getting milk from mom. I thought that was over kill. What is your opinion?
I think that’s overkill and unrealistic. You could weigh them every couple weeks to see how they are doing if you want to track feed conversion ratios or rate of growth. Laying eyes on your lambs or kids every day should tell you if something is wrong. Getting birth weight and weight at weaning are helpful if you want to track overall growth, especially if you’ve got a good herd and need to make some tough decisions on culling. Take weaning weight, subtract birth weight, and divide by the number of days between birth and weaning. This will give you your rate of growth and you can get an idea which doe is producing the growers. 👍🏻
@@LinessaFarms Exactly what I thought. I do birth weight and weaning weight. And yes, I could pretty much tell by looking which ones were the better growers.
