I've been watching your channel regularly for a few years now, and just happened on these older ones. Just as relevant now as then, even though I'm not an airline pilot and never will be (too old). I do have a PPL and Commercial rating, but haven't flown for several decades. Your videos make me wish I was 20 again, had better vision, and could get into flying as a profession! Thanks.

Hi, Mentour pilot! Just a "small" comment on eating and drinking: While I totally agree that drinking pure water is important (I drink between one and two liters a day when I'm out sailing, or motorcycling, being somewhat comparable to flying - you dry out), then eating is another matter. This varies greatly from person to person. Some people, like myself and my eldest daughter, can go all day without any food, and still have a level of blood sugar that is sufficient to keep us away from fatigue, as long as we get water. Maybe an apple or a carrot would be good if the day is very long (10-12 hours or more), but that's all. All we need is a hearty, protein rich meal once a day, or at least every other day, and then some green tea and fruit (like apples) for breakfast. When it comes to my wife and my second eldest daughter, it is different; they can quite "go off the rails" if not being fed about every third hour. I think this is a combination of eating-habits and how the individual's metabolism works. So this is obviously very different from one person to another, even within the same family. It also depends on the kinds of food you eat, and how your body can tolerate and utilize that food. I can stay healthy and focused on a diet of red meat or fish, and vegetables, like broccoli, onions or carrots, which I need a hearty meal of only once a day. If I eat pasta, pizza, maize or bread, it's a whole other ballgame. Then my blood sugar level gets out of balance. Therefore, I try to stay away from those ;-) So, I just wanted to add this to your otherwise excellent presentation to encourage every pilot, or would be pilot, or even non-pilot, to find out what works best for him or her. As I said, for me eating during the day makes me much more tired, and less focused, than only drinking water, as long as I get that real meal every 24-48 hours. I guess that's not always doable in the aviation business, but usually I think you should be OK. Just try it out for yourselves. Tip: Don't try this while flying on the line or being in line training; wait until you have a few days off, or are on vacation. Give the body a few days to adjust. Another tip: If you are blood group A, stay away from red meat. It may be harmful in the long run. Stick to fish, vegetarian proteins, oils and vegetables. Blood group B can eat most red meats and fish, but should avoid chicken, especially the fat. But eggs are fine. Group AB is very complex, and also quite rare, so I will not get into that one here. Type O, which is my blood group, will thrive on red meat, fish, and most vegetables, like onions, broccoli, and so forth. My own experience confirms this. Swine, especially the fat, like bacon, is not good for anyone (apart from being tasty, which is also important - sometimes). Onions and most fruits and roots are good for all. So, why not try an apple or a carrot instead of a "snack bar" next time? If you want to find out more, you can google "the blood type diet". I know it is not an accurate science, but at least it made a huge difference to me! ;-) Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I had a book on bloodtypes and someone stole it. But I do that and my family eats tons. If you sit in a cockpit all day youll need to go to gym or run in place at hotel.
Always make it a point to learn something new every day. Every person you come into contact with has the ability to teach you something that you didn't know because every person do things in a personal way. Even standardized procedures will have a slight difference, handled with a different finesse or they have a word picture or acronym to help them remember something. Observe, listen and take what works for you and ignore the rest. I have taught this to many new police officers and airline employees (station above and below wing) over the years as I've worked in both industries. You will always be able to learn something new if you just watch and listen no matter how much experience you have.

Love your channel. Thank u for all this awesome information. This is as close as I can get to becoming a pilot. Unfortunately my health issues would not permit me to become a pilot. I absolutely love the 737-800 I've come to learn almost every switch and control for this type. One day I'd like to get a chance at watching a takeoff from the jumpseat. I've always wanted that experience because that would be the closest thing to becoming a commercial 737 pilot. I thank you for all your videos I enjoy them greatly. Keep em coming please. I have a neurological condition which prohibits me from even getting my PPL, but I have enjoyed X Plane using the real weather downloads, proper yoke, throttle quadrants and rudder/brake pedals, and have over 2000 hours on the Cessna 172 and over 1000 hours on Beechcraft Baron B58. It's pretty awesome using a large 51" screen and building a good gaming computer.
Everything about this video was fantastic. The advice was spot on. Anybody about to start line training would do well to follow exactly what Petter says.
You can't beat getting in early. I'm not a pilot but my working day involves moving groups of people around airport-hotel, hotel airport/golf course. Get prepared, plan your routes and get a coffee! 7 P's
Thank you so much for these video's! They are really usefull for people like me who would like to start training soon. I have a suggestion that I would love to see: Information about the 737-8. You already told us that it is slippery and gave a great rule of thumb about those distances. I would just love to know (since I fly the aircraft almost everyday in the simulator) how it handles in real life. How does the cockpit feel (small, I have heard), how does it land, how does it rotate, just the handling of the aircraft or info about the aircraft. This question most likely was way too broad to cover or make a video on. Whatever, I loved everything you've made so far. Please keep it coming!

Last year of school and I want to become a commercial airline pilot.. i live in Madrid and I'm not a national here.. I've been here for 2 years now and I've got 4 years left to get my passport.. my question is do i have to finish school and then get my college degree (in spain is 2 years.. aka Bachillerato in spain)? or should i join flight school now and get my ppl and then atpl [including cpl and mcc] which is gonna cost me 46k USD? ... What should I do?
Jahin Akhyar Sorry for the delay. First off I'm not +Mentour pilot. Not sure why I received your reply. But I can still answer your question. The bare minimum for airlines is at least a high school diploma. Some airlines want a degree as well. So the. Best advice I can give is finish high school, go to university and get a degree, then go to flight school and get your commercial license MIFR ratings. That would be your safest approach at this. At least you will have a backup plan if you cannot attain an aviation job right away. It took me a long time to finally land my first airline job with a 5 year gap of doing odd jobs in construction. Do you think you will ever move on to a different Type (I'm presuming your airline only operates the 737) in the future with other airlines? And would you ever consider doing Long Haul? Ive always known deep down since I was a very young age that I wanted to be a pilot. I'm currently 21 and I'm on my second year in university studying aeronautical engineering, I'm considering taking it as a PhD but I don't know if that would be beneficial or not to be a pilot. In the future could you possibly explain some of the medical requirements (Easa Class 1) and what is required to obtain one? Ive also recommended your videos to the people I'm studying with who also interested in this career as your wisdom is truly valuable and must be shared! Thank You

Hi ! Thank you for this new video. Very informative as usual, and also very motivating ! I was wondering what the atmosphere (people's behavior) is like in the airline industry. Obviously it depends on the airline and you can only answer based on your own experience, but this is something that most students didn't like in the school where I completed my flight training. We were pushed to fly almost all the time in order to not fall behind schedule and we were pretty much treated like children... I was then wondering if it is the same with young/unexperienced F/Os ?

Hello Again Petter, I hope you're fine, i have a little question please about the handle during runaway and the take-off, you said on this podcast that before the rotation , the pilot must have the horizon insight, please could you confirm if this procedure is good only with a good weather in a sunny day or all the time, is it necessary to fix the PFD after Take off in all weather conditions in order to avoid pilot vertigo ? mostly in IMC conditions and during the night? Awesome video once again. i wear glasses so i had my 2nd class medical done to make sure i would be accepted by my flight school before i even applied. thankfully i checked out fine. i am yet to begin flight school next year beacause my i can't afford it now. Do u know any AME who would be willing to do a video on how to stay fit as a pilot in relation to how to deal with the stress levels involved in flying long haul or short haul. that would be really awesome...Thanks!
Hey i just discovered your channel through "Pilot man" last two weeks and i have to say that what you're doing is really helpful and so good indeed! i'm 20 right now holding my PPL only but i work as classic car Restorer in local show that pays well and i love it! but the flying bug really hit me these days and everytime i see big airplanes flying by i just feel bad about my self and just want to pilot those damn things:( so what i'm saying here is i love my current job and i just still have the burn of becoming airline Pilot just for the heck of it "fly a god damn 747-400 . the thing is i once in a while rend Cessna and fly around for fun and from what i heard doing this is better than driving big Jets! is that true? do you think i leave it as hobby or just go through and get my ATP ? i don't know i'm confused so please HELP you might be the one that change my path!

If you work at the airline I think you work at you should have done but have you ever flown into EGNM (Leeds Bradford)?? i am doing flight training there and the crosswind can sometimes get quite scary! also, the runway slope doesn't help! Thank.

Hi mentor pilot.. I have just failed in the crm interview. There were two main queations that ı couldnt answer confidently. First one was that when u are a captain in the cockpit if one of the cabin crew inform u that they saw 2 small green snakes in the cabin would u continue or divert and would u inform the passengers about the snakes or would not? what is the correct answer..? and if u are to inform what kind of question would u ask?
1. snakes are venomous? If yes i land on 1 nearby airport, if not ask 2 2. i flight more than 50% route? If I passed 50% conntinue but 1 must be NO 3. i inform passanger about animal on run in cabin, i use word "ANIMAL" not snake, not reptile. And if 2 is yes, i continue to destination airport

Yes. I believe there is a 737-200 full motion sim at the Delta museum (the -200 is no longer in service) Otherwise in the USA they are mostly found at FAR part 142 flight schools. It may be expensive at a couple hundred dollars per hour and require either US passport or a security background check if not a citizen. (This is how some hijackers learned to fly.)
