The Mavericks Awards is a digital video performance contest in which big wave surfers and videographers submit their best surf content from Mavericks from the entire winter season. Founded by Jeff Clark and Chris Cuvelier, our mission is to celebrate Mavericks and the brave men and women that surf it. Our values of respect, inclusion, equality, safety and environmental stewardship guide all our decisions and how we operate the Mavericks Awards.

I've been sucked back over the falls. It's been a too familiar phrase in my head...."How did you let this happen again?" After a couple of hours, you'll get lulled into thinking that there's no freak sets. And if there is, you'll be able to scratch out quickly enough. Nope. If you dance with the Devil, you might have to pay up. Luckily, all my experiences were in Hawaii, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.... WARM WATER.

Would love to experience the feeling of getting pummeled by such force 6/7 foot waves toss you around like a rag doll, cannot imagine that much force what it does to your body Much respect to these guys Fearless

When I was much younger and adept at body boarding, there was a summer Mexico tropical storm that kicked up the surf in Laguna Beach. An 8-foot wave was building outside. I never rode an 8', so I decided to go for it. The ride was a total rush...up until 8.3 lbs per gallon suddenly took away the thrill. The buoyancy of the leashed board was the only thing that kept worry from turning into panic. Scratch one item from my bucket list.
