My theory is he traveled to a different land I personally think they are going to release a dlc where you travel to a dlc sized land mass in the sea with like two dungeons to do or something and it will start by penn saying his birds are saying Kass has been spotted and you follow a riddle to find him where he tells you about the landmass he found and you must Ultrahand together a boat that can withstand a long journey and you sail to this new landmass with a new small story. Possibly it’s own unique final boss in spirit of Ganondorf like demon King Malladus in new hyrule who is not as strong as Ganondorf but still pretty powerful
Everyone thought that was Twilight Princess Midna’s Lament, but the notes are not really close. It’s 100% the cooking humming sound. That was one of my favorite ones, it ties it to BOTW.
I' got like 200h in botw, nearly 200 in totk (not even close to have finished the game lmao) and never skipped that cooking animatuon, I love it sm!!!!
Hahahaha, all about 251’s Fun fact, half way through he ends up on bIII, moves to bII, then to i. That’s EXACTLY what the original NES Overworld theme does. Intentional in my opinion. Very cool.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory Fun fact from an accordionist: The left hand of the accordion is arranged in fifths, so this chord progression is very easy to play by just moving down the accordion!
@@ZeldaMusicTheory Interesting, I've looked into it and the closest I can find is that the instrument Kass is visually holding is technically not an accordion, but a concertina. They're usually octagonal, but larger square ones do exist. But the audio is definitely from an accordion.

Wow, okay so yea it’s the same notes but very likely not an intentional reference. Just like how it does the same thing in Korok Forest in the B section before looping. (Go listen). It’s just 5432 in a minor key. Like I’m a minor it’s EDCB. But you’re right, it is the same notes. 😄
Obviously TOTK is going to occupy your time for a long while, but once you're done, you really need to play Link's Awakening. Doesn't matter which version play, since DX and the remake are both available on Switch. It's such a fun game and Marin is so adorable.
I played it like 6 hours and beat 2-3 areas but ended up not finishing. It was fun but there are so many things I wish I had more time for. Maybe one day when I’m a rich and famous steamer and I get paid to do that 🤣 Nah always about passion for me.
Thanks so much Victor! This channel is so much fun. Really glad I’m not the only one who is passionate about Zelda music 🤣 I would do these even if 10 people watched them.
The Champion's Ballad always makes me cry or teary-eyed! I got to hear it once so far during my cooking adventures in TotK, it was a cute little moment :)
Not official, but Hyrule Castle quotes Ballad of the Widfish and notes are identical. Both answers are correct unless Nintendo says which one they intended. Nice!
With the Link Cooking Humming one, I thought, "That's how he hummed in Breath of the Wild, but I don't recognize what it's originally from," so I'm going to count that as a win. Other than that, the only other issue I had was with Ballad of the Goddess. I knew what song it was, where/how it was used within Skyward Sword, and how it went, but couldn't remember the title. Also with Ballad of the Windfish, I paused and was going through a bunch of other songs from other games in my head trying to figure out what it was, because I knew I knew it. I was wracking my brain for songs from Twilight Princess, but then I thought, "The mysterious tone isn't right for Twilight Princess. It feels more like the GameBoy games," but then I was like, "But it's definitely not Minish Cap, and it's definitely not Oracle of Ages or Oracle of Seasons." Then suddenly I remembered Link's Awakening existed and I was immediately like, "Oh, it's the Ballad of the Windfish, duh."
Got them all right, first time, fowarded your responses becuase it was stupid obvious and easy; been hearing all these songs dily on my workout routine, no wonder.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory Lit all Zelda osts, my least fave is oos, my fave will always be Majoras, but boy do I dig the 25th anniversary special that came with the skyward sword
My god, now I wanna see the Pokemon Red & Blue opening theme in the OOT soundfont. Also I'm just so happy this game embraces Zelda music more than the last, and it's cool to see some real analysis. I've been avoiding videos about TOTK up until a few days ago when I beat it, and surprisingly, the main thing I now am in the mood for is still music analysis of all things, especially with how hard some of the themes from this game hit.
Hahahaha, I’m excited to cover so much more, just easing into main gameplay elements (like Rito area and level will probably be 2-3 weeks from now, but with spoiler warnings). Then slowly doing each area perhaps. Still feeling things out.
You know, the Ballad of the Wind Fish one is tough because I wouldn't blame people for thinking it was Gerudo Valley! But I think it's Ballad of the Wind Fish myself, and I love that they referenced Link's Awakening like that.
10/10! I almost missed the Ballad of the Goddess. I recognized it, but had to pause and hum more of it before my memory was fully jogged on what it was.
Hahaha, I try to give about the right amount of time, and also to play just a bit more on some of them, and then a final warning 321, THEN reveal. Hopefully it was a good format and I can do more like this in the future for Zelda or other games.
I didn't recognize the Champion's Ballad, but I only played the DLC for BotW a few weeks before TotK's release, and it wasn't catchy enough for me to become a song I'd listen to on repeat, and I totally forgot about Link's own cooking theme haha, but otherwise 8/10 😄
Haha both tricky. Did you ever go do the Trial of the Sword? In Korok Forest? It’s a progressive permadeath challenge where you beat each subsequent room, take only what you find in the levels, and try to beat it. And Master Sword becomes OP if you do Beg Int and Expert. It was actually my single favorite part of BOTW believe it or not.
You should analyze the Skydiving theme! Something I noticed while skydiving is a part of the music sounds like Forest Haven from WW. There's probably more in there too!
@Zelda Music Theory I just type in TotK OST Skydiving when searching it. It's the theme that plays when you skydive from any of the big sky islands to Hyrule.
9/10! I missed the ballad of the wind fish, but I also haven't played Link's Awakening before. Also, just a little unrelated note: did you know that when you defeat one of the "regional phenomena" bosses it plays music from age of calamity?
@@ZeldaMusicTheory 5:46-6:13 of (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2-ZwSIo16vw.html) is referencing this theme from age of calamity: (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G8a9ZiLqRBo.html) It is the "A Battle's Conclusion" theme from AOC
I remember being all excited about all the references in the Zora bands' individual riffing in Majora's Mask. Lot of good classics sprinkled in there lol
Honestly, the ChillHop goes way too hard, I listen to that album for hours at my job. Makes the day go by so much faster! I don't know all the songs titles, but some I've heard too many times listening to compilations. Also, I've been skipping Link cooking since I didn't think it was different from BotW. Thats so cute, though. It definitely gives Link a bit more depth, rather than letting him be an avatar for the player. I actually don't like games like that much, I need my character that I'm playing to have depth (unless its like an Elder Scrolls type of game).
Ngl i freaked the HECK out when I figured out this is what he was doing when he cooked. It's adorable! So far no. 5 is the only one that stumped me cause i didn't play that game Oh and 8, cause i. Also did not play that game 😅 I got 9 tho! 7 and 9 are my favorites (and also the only ones to make me cry but that's beside the point) 8/10 was my final score! (Admittedly i did need the piano on no. 10 cause that was the only one I was never able to figure out on my own despite recognizing it as familiar)
You know, the last 2 I didn’t have the isolating because I had to borrow footage from yt, and I used 2 different videos (couldn’t find a “comprehensive” one). So those were tougher.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory that actually wasn't what stumped me! Mainly it was cause Link doesn't hum quite enough of the tune for me to catch on to what it is, so until now it was just a 2-tone humming rhythm that sounded vaguely familiar
9/10 here. I *definitely* missed the cooking theme one, but I always skipped that animation on reflex in BotW, so I guess it makes sense. I personally cannot *wait* until you cover the songs played by the Stable Trotters in their sidequests as well. They feel absolutely jam-packed with references.
I thought there was also a twilight princess song he hummed but I could just be misremembering. Also there's a remix of the cooking theme on RU-vid, it's really good, Don't remember who made it but the thumbnail is of link cooking.
Yeah, so some thought Link’s Humming was Midna’s Lament, but it is not. Also Kass’s Theme without the embellishment is actually the same as the main Midna theme (like snow peak)
I got all 10! I actually spent the first like 30 minutes of the game trying to get all the different songs he hums 😭 I cooked so many meals but I was really proud of myself for knowing all the themes
I wish I had come across it organically so I could have had that “freak out” moment, but also I have a responsibility to stay up to date so I can cover stuff. So I prefer to have viewers send me leads 😁
Links awakening is top notch, and the new version is so charming. As the 4th game and before OoT, it cemented a lot of tropes. I didn't play it when it came out (I wasn't allowed a Gamboy) but you can just pick it up and enjoy it off the bat.
I got most of these, I can't lie if you didn't play the extra notes I wouldn't have been able to get the OoT Hyrule field theme from the fee notes Link hums. But the one that I didn't get mody embarsssingly was Link doing the original BotW Humming theme. I was so absorbed in thinking of what game it could've been, didn't think of the most obvious one
Hey thanks so much Eric! So that opens up the door (if you see my response)- what sort of things would you love to see covered here? Even different styles or video ideas?
9.5 out of 10? the generic hum didn't sound like it was from anything, but I thought it was, so I was kinda in both pools? Gave myself a half point for that
SO that’s 100% correct as well. The 3 notes version is identical. So you can give it a check. I chose Kass’s theme because I hear a prep note and a little flourish. But both would be accepted 😅
9/10. I didn't get the overworld theme from the very first Zelda. Though I find it funny that outside of the BotW references, Link's humming music only found from the beginning and end of the unified timeline and the downfall timeline. There's nothing from the child or adult timelines to be heard when he's cooking. I think that was done on purpose and not just them forgetting the other two timelines after OoT
6 / 10 the Only one I messed up was Link's Cooking Humming Theme and also Champions of the Ballad Theme I FAIL! but Breath of the Wild has some Amazing Themes too! as for Ballad of the Goddess I took the L for that One! But I was Half Right because I was Guessing Skyward Sword 8th Theme actually threw me off Guard for a Minute I thought it was Song of Storms due to the Structure of Notes being SIMILAR! Oddly enough I got the Last One Right because I knew it was Kass's Theme from the Game........ OK I KNOW SOME OF BREATH OF THE WILD! but like I said before they have some Amazing Themes too!
I got 7/10. I missed Link's humming from Breath of the Wild, the Champion's Ballad from the DLC of Breath of the Wild, and the last one because it sounded a little bit like "Midna's Lament" to me from Twilight Princess. I didn't hear the back and forth da-da-da that would've given it away to me that it was Kass's theme. I recognized all of them though once they were played, besides the humming from Breath of the Wild.
9/10. only one i didnt get was OOT's Hyrule Field. Had to do a bit of thinking for Ballad of the Wind Fish. Also, am I the only one who when i first heard it thought Kass' theme hummed was actually Animal Crossing?
I only got 2/10, lmao. I got Link cooking humming and Kass’s theme from BotW. Prior to playing TotK, I’ve only played BotW last year. I’m quite new to Zelda. But as soon as I heard all those new melodies Link hums when he’s cooking, I just knew they’re referencing previous games and I’m missing out a lot 😅
Somehow i didn't ever notice this. I kinda knew he hummed, but whatever I must have heard sounded normal and i started skipping the cutscenes for cooking.
For the windfish I was thinking of either that or song of hero from SS, they're both sung by a windfish technically, and I chose the song of the hero. I never played OoT so i didn't recognize Hyrule Field theme and I recognized champion's ballad but I though it was just a continuation of Kass' theme so I said Kass' theme. Otherwise I got all right
I felt like Nr. 2 is Hyrule Field from TP, got more of an ominous feeling that the original :3 Also, 7/10, bamboozled by Hyrule Field OOT, Links cooking hum and Champions Ballad :3 Thanks for this challenge and also showing what themes his humming were ^__^ Though I heard Song of Storms as well when I were cooking, but mightve just been Sarias Song :3
Well, you already put the answers in the description... I knew that most of the songs where references to other Zelda games or songs, but some I couldn't place some the names; When I heard them in game... Some of these songs you said are specific from games; IMO: I'd just they're all Zelda songs... ⬆️ - Well, no sh*t they're all Zelda songs... I thought at least one of the things Link's humming was BoTW's Shrine theme... (It was #8 that I thought it was)
Champion Ballad tripped me up because I never owned the DLC and Kass' theme didn't kick in my mind because... I surprisingly never found him. I looked for him but I dunno where he can be. 8/10 though
I only missed Champion's Ballad and Wind Fish. I'm honestly surprised because Botw and Totk are the only Zelda games I've beaten (I can almost add Skyward Sword to the list, maybe this weekend) I guess the rest of the songs are often referenced in the series or just really cool in the case of Ballad of the Goddess.
I got all of them except for the ones from BotW (I have played a bit of BotW but sadly I lost interest in it after not very long). Definitely happy to hear Ballad of the Windfish!
