My ONE compliant is that we just truly NEED to hear more Mr. Hahn in the music, more scratcing. It wouldn't even take away from their "new sound" thing. It would add that, LP sound while being new still.

Joe said on the Zane Lowe interview that the new album is loud. I reckon Emptiness Machine is a safe single and the rest of the album tracks use Emily to the absolute best of her ability

You could tell they picked this song for the powerful introduction to Emily's vocal. This is her debut so it makes a lot of sense why the beginning is toned down and then explodes.

Mike's constant smile since the announcement and all during the live show says it all. Their sit down with Zane on the LP channel is very insightful as well.

I hear the grit and rawness in her voice that reminds me of Chester. Once she learns how to do his songs, then its full sail from here. Mike made a great choice. I love this song and i love this new era of Linkin park

I literally have not stopped listening to the Emptiness Machine since it came out. And I haven’t once gotten tired of it. It’s so wild to hear an LP track with a different lead vocalist on it, I think I’m still trying to get my head around that. But this song is VERY Linkin Park and I love the high energy and big guitar chords they went with. I’m pumped to have them back, the world is better with LP making music again

I think releasing "Emptiness Machine" as a single was more of a way to convey a message to the fans, the song clearly is talking about how they feel empty without Linkin Park, and how they needed to do this revival

The big connection between Emily and Chester are their more straight up rock backgrounds, and then Mike asking them both what it would sound like if they started screaming.

I honestly LOVE the new song. It may not be Nu Metal, but it's the closest to their original sound we've gotten since Meteora. I'm so ready for this new album.

Chester sang with pain, she sings with fury, and it's so good

It's a rock banger - definitely feels like a slightly heavier Living Things era track but with a bit more production flare and obviously a whole new flavour in terms of Emily's vocals. I think we will hear her sing some really heavy shit on the new record as well as some songs that are a lot softer. It will be exciting.

Song feels like that safe bottle of wine that anyone at the table would find decent and inoffensive. A safe song, but the right choice to feature as your first single in years.

I think Emily is a good choice, she’s similar enough to pull off Chester’s songs but different enough to not shamelessly replace him and put a newer twist on things

I've heard The Emptiness Machine on repeat this whole weekend. And I must say, I really enjoy it. Her voice grows on me. She has that rough emotion Chester also had.

So, hot take (maybe), I am GLAD she doesnt sound like Chester or that they didnt go with someone that sounded like him. If you want a sound alike, there are tons of people who can just sound like him. But theres something empty, impassionate about that. Chester was Chester, and having a fill in voice to sound like him does a disservice to the new vocalist. Emily has a new sound, where at times she channels/emulates Chesters vocal stylings, but she is so uniquely herself, and I honestly appreciate that.

Maybe it shouldn't surprise me, but I am a bit surprised by how mixed a lot of people are on Emily. I grew up with Hybrid Theory and Meteora spinning in my Walkman nonstop for most of my youth and honestly haven’t followed Linkin Park in many, many years. I think going with a female singer was absolutely the best choice they could’ve made. The comparisons to Chester are already insane but imagine how much worse it would've been if the new singer were male and trying to emulate Chester's voice. I think she stands on her own, and while she doesn’t "sound" like Chester, she sings in a lot of the same ways while also bringing her own unique sound to LP. She's new, but I think she is already doing a great job and will only get better with experience

Btw, Emily posted an Instagram story addressing the criticism about the whole rapist case where she defended her friend before he was found guilty. She apologised for it and acknoledges her past mistake. That's one of 2 points clear. She hasn't mentioned her connection to scientology, but after researching the topic, I must say, it is dangerous for current or past members of the cult to publicly criticise it. The cult has an enoursmous amount of money and power and can potentially ruin your life. The evidence of her connection, the 1 picture at an scientology event, is like 10 years long, so it's possible that she doesn't believe in any of that shit anymore. But she was born into it, maybe her parents are a reason too as to why she doesn't want to officially leave. Just wanted to update some of you who may be interested in that.

I'll be honest, in my personal opinion, I don't think this song has enough of that signature LP angst to really set it apart from a modern rock song on the radio. Hopefully, they prove me wrong with the rest of the album. The song is fun and her vocals are strong.

I’ve been a Linkin Park fan since the beginning. Was a part of the Underground and street team. There is no replacing Chester. I think she will make a great addition and would like to see more before I judge more. I also liked a bit more of Mike singing.

When Emily turned it up in the chorus, I had goosebumps and immediate flashbacks. It gives me the same emotional response I had back in the day. So for me, they hit it out of the park.

#1 Pro tip for LP lead singers: Never, NEVER try to sound like Chester. The fandom will chew you up and spit you out.

I think people forget how much Mike is involved with the production, he is the main reason behind their tonality and music - Chester was the voice and lyrics but Mike brought the production and gave the sound and tone of their music. I think the new song reaches back to the Hunting Party and is a good place to be, I don't think Meteora/Hybrid Theory is where modern music is now and I don't think it would fit well, as much as we all would love to hear that era of song again, I think we look through rose tinted glasses sometimes and don't accept that music and especially LP evolve.

The song is great, in my opinion. Perfectly captures the energy of Linkin Park at their peak, while also pushing their sound in a new direction. Emily fits so well, and just hearing the band back at it after so long brought instant joy to my heart. It will definitely take time for all of us to adapt to this new era, but I'm stoked to see and hear how far they go.

Where is the reaction to Spiritbox?

In an interview Mike said this song was written and done before Emily had joined at all. They had her simply sing it, but that her voice fit so well that he knew she was the one. More songs on the album was written with Emily in mind and I'm most excited for those tracks.

I like it. Will definitely be a solid one on my playlist. Not like world shattering, but Its solid. Pretty solid. Definitely Linkin Park.

So, I think she's done a decent job covering their previous work in concert. I like that they sound so different and unique to their previous work rather than fill a void that you're not possibly ever going to cover.

Emily sounds somewhere between Chester and Lzzy Hale and it works tbh. You can tell she's got a similar vocal range to Chester but she's not trying to ape him at all. She sounds great.

Emily is a great vocalist with a powerful voice but the song itself doesn't sound like LP (no matter of the genre). It sounds more like an Mike Shinoda side project release. Very similar to Already Over. I enjoy the new song though but like I've said shouldn't have been under LPs name. Also sucks that only 50% of the original band is touring. I feel like Brad only stayed to have a say in the development of the music/ sound but doesn't fully support it. Kinda like some sort of damage prevention. But bottom line is the song is good, emily is great, just not sure about the execution of the reunion and some choices that were made

IMO Linkin Park changed a ton after Meteora, almost to the point it wasn’t the same band. Linkin Park evolved a ton with Chester. So I don’t have any issue with them changing a ton without him. Those first two albums will always be all-timers for me. IMO they never achieved that level from a song writing perspective since Meteora so it’s not like this change is all that crazy. I’m excited to see what they have in store.

Nik we ABSOLUTELY need a nu metal esk cover of this song. Emptiness Machine is such a great base for something like that.

I'm impressed by Emily - not an attempt at Chester karaoke, but a distinct vocalist bringing a grittier, more direct rock vocal. I always thought Lacey Sturm from Flyleaf might work as a LP vocalist and Emily covers a lot of the same bases. Looking forward to the full album.
